He meant that he was resistant to the radiation, so why didnt he
activate Project Purity, rather then having you die when activating it.

I've been playing this and I have to admit I found it very tough at the start - caps seemed few and far between and even now hours in I still find myself broke because all my money goes on stimpacks. I am starting to get a bit stronger now though so I feel I can actually take things on now - up until a few hours gameplay ago if I came upon any more than two super-mutants I would have to run away because I'd be mashed.

All this leads me to believing I made a mess of the initial character setup because not only was I not very lethal I also found myself not having sufficient science/lockpick to often when needed. Slow slow progress.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,406 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Pump some skill points into Medical. I only did that towards the end, and it made a big difference on the amount of healing i had to do. Earlier, i never had any stimpacks, and it was bloody annoying. Also, lockpicking/science were definitly the best skills i got, followed by speech.

im thinking for the replay i wanna be really affluent, have lower weapon skills compensated for by having better equipment and lots of money. i was a combat badass the first time through with good lockpick/science.

im leaning towards speech, barter, repair and medicine this time, think ill still play as a good char though. save evil for a third trip round

I found this too, but now that I've got sh!t loads of ammo, I miss the early part where I had to spare every bullet and use my melee most of the time. It made for lots of very tense moments!

Aye - I took the scrounger perk so I'm finding a lot more ammo than I used to. Ammo was really scarce for a while - couldn't touch the assault rifle or any other automatic weapon that rinsed ammo.

Right I've messed up. I made mistake trying to kill somebody in the Ghoul town and now the whole place is after me. My last save game is too far back.

Is there any way to get a town to stop attacking you.

Kill them all will stop it fairly quickly.

Could try killing randomers in Tenpenny tower if you have the quest.

I find the best skills for getting money or usefulness in General is Lockpick > Speech > Science. Speech is great to use in Megaton at the start and can generally double or triple your income for quest rewards depending.

Heres some tips on how to earn a good bit of money at the start:
    -
Talk to Silver in Springvale. If you tell her to give you some of her caps and tell Moriarty to go away she will give you 300 caps. If you successfully use Speech on her she will give you 400 caps
    -
When dicussing Lucas Simmons about Disarming the Bomb in Megaton, if you successfully use Speech on him he will give you 500 caps instead of 100 when you disarm it
    -
Talk to the Old Man in the Water Processing Plant, he will give you a quest to repair 3 leaks sprung around the town. He gives you 100 caps for it and he also gives you 10 caps per scrap metal you give him
    -
Go into the Brass Lantern bar, on the left you will find the computer, hack it (only requires very easy or easy skill) and unlock the safe in the floor beside the computer. You get 300 caps
    -
Not Necessarily alot of caps but you get alot of 'aid' items. Speak with Doc Church in the Clinic in Megaton & say " I could use a pick me up.... " when he says that theres other junkies in the town ask about it. He says Leo Stahl is an addict, speak to Leo and convince him (using speech) to give up. He gives you his key for his stash in the Water Process plant. His stash has 100 caps, mentats, jets, rad away etc etc

Speech is good to get up to around 50 as you can usually convince most people by then. With all my characters so far, i pumped all of my SPECIAL into Intelligence and took the Educated perk. Every time i level up i get 23 points to spend on skills and skills rise very quickly that way. In terms of weapons, i much prefer high precision (sniper rifle, scoped .44, hunting rifle). You usually waste less ammo (high damage per shot and only uses one round per shot in VATS compared to 3 or more bullets for automatic weapons) using those weapons and then i sell off the other ammo/weps. Again it depends entirely on what type of character you have and what weapons he wants to use.

Been playing this game :), what can i say as has been said before its the little things that make the game. Nothing quite beats observing the AI interact in the wasteland.

Outcast v Raiders or Yuo Gai v Rad Scorpians random encounters like this are done so well :), you almost feel guilty waltzing in and getting the easy kill/loot kill on the loser after they finish :P.

As for my Char, went with a int/agil/endurance setup as i specialised in small guns, big guns and repair. Worked out pretty well i can handle pretty much everything :) Fatman FTW :P. As i did allot of exploring i have capped my char and maxed out medicine, speech, science, lockpick in addition to my main tags.

Money or ammo isnt so bad as i just go fight some super mutants/raiders for ammo ect and as i specialise in low tech i sell on my high tech stuff brings in allot of change :).

Best tip i can give is explore as much as possible and do any sidequest you can pick up. I have found more bobbleheads and books by randomly wandering around than anythingelse but be careful if you wander into areas that are part of the main quest it completes everything up until then.

Have there been many patches released for this game?

whats the best gun/s you guys have?

    ive three main ones:

the modified plasma rifle from the android quest in rivet city

vengence - the modified laser gatling gun, at the end of the deathclaw lair, very, very powerful.

the modified fatman - fires 8 nukes at once (only works if you have 8 nukes though) melts faces... and can take down behemoths with ease.

if you come across the alien pistol, thats meant to be very good, and the modified one, think its called firemace, or something like that. i havent come across it yet, its a random encounter and apparently the alien ammo is very hard to find.

Totally need to get me that fatman :), i have like 19 mini-nukes :P. My best weapons would be:

Modified SMG (cant remember the name) : cuts through supermutant heads like a hot knife through butter,
you get it off the relic hunter you meet when looking for the declaration of indepenance but you need to have found the tape her dad recorded for her in the hotel opposite the hospital

Burner : Modified flamer does more max damage, forget where i found that, i remeber killing someone for it.

Hunting Rifle/Combat Shotty: my main 1 v 1 weapons depending on the combat scenario, nothing kills ghouls like a combat shotty to the head.

Missle Launcher/Minigun/Fatman: depending on the scenario and the amout of enemys, try limit the fatman as the damage it deals is unreal and if its near a cluster of cars well point and run or your screwed.

I also have schematics for the railway gun mark 2 which i want to build as i have over 2000 spikes and i need a replacement for hunting rifle when its low on ammo.

Best gun I have is deffo the Alien Blaster.

It's pretty much a 1 shot kill everytime.

    Feck all ammo though.

My "Kneecapper" Shotgun is decent in a tight spot I find. Other than that I rely on my combat shotgun or Chinese Assault Rifle.

Yeah the Kneecaper's very good, though I wonder if you got it the same way I did?
I "convinced" the bodyguard of the Nuka Cola lady in Girdershade, using the Black Widow perk, to go hunting for Quantum himself (rather than me doing it). When I eventually went to the Cola factory myself I found him dead in the hall, complete with his shotgun. I was quite bummed I sent him to his death cos he seemed fairly innocent.

Sniper Rifle or Scoped .44 for me. Nothing more satisfying than taking out 3 Yao Guai's with a one shot kill headshot each in VATS with the sniper rifle :D

In terms of 'unique' weapons all i really have is Ol' Painless Hunting rifle, The Break pool cue and the Reservist's rifle (slightly more powerful sniper rifle but only has 3 rounds per mag).

Btw, a fat man that shoots EIGHT mini-nukes at once must be a sight to behold in the game!

Crap, yeah I just read that above; good gravy does that not completely sink your frame-rate (as well as skyrocket the rad count) each time you fire that ...thing?

    Nah
he was pissing me off so I shot him in the face :) I would have tried the Black Widow but my char is male so my version is the Lady Killer

    quick spoiler
    toot toot!

Ah yes, the railway rifle. At this stage I have enough railway spikes to net me a small fortune, but have yet to stumble across the weapon itself so am keeping them. Strange considering how it featured quite a bit in the videos Bethesda released & I expected it to be more common. Hope to stumble across it soon!

You never will stumble across it since you've to make it yourself.

Is it worth making ? I have the schematics for a fair few bits and pieces (that included) but haven't bothered to make anything yet.

I've only made the grade 1, and there was no advantage to it. I've yet to try the second grade one, which is apparently more worthwhile.

Doubly intriguing! I must keep an eye out for the specs then.

This is what I love about the game, no two people's experience is the same.

Oh I was wondering about that actually. Take for example the shishkebab. I got two seperate sets of schematics and a message appeared on screen to say i'd made it "better", so does that mean that I've automatically got a grade 2 weapon ? How many grades are there in total ?
