No Christmas party here, as usual. Last year we did have Christmas lunch, next door, and we paid for it. The good news is that the 25th is a weekday this year, so we'll actually get a day off. W00t!

Have not had one the last few years, we just got a bonus instead but I think this year that won't be happening either.

We got a pay freeze so they've decided to give us a big Christmas party to make up for it. I'd rather the money to get pissed instead of a meal and some crappy band tbh!

Our Social Coordinator was out sick for a month so I've heard nothing but I doubt very much that it will be cancelled. I don't even know what they do for a Christmas party as it's my first year but as long as there is a bar it's all good.

Mine says they pay for it but we have to organise it ourselves amongst our departments and there is a limit on the amount per head.

I prefer this. We can grab platters of food in a pub and spend the rest on booze :pac:

We never get a Christmas party as I work for the HSE and the HSE cant spend money on daft things such as parties and the like.

There's definitely a recession on when girls have to pretend to be their ex-bosses ex-girlfriend all night and then put out on the bonnet of a '92 Ford Escort just for a few measly cold mince pies and some crap music :(

Mine is on, full steam ahead!!

The buzz in the office about the Xmas party always seems to make it seem like it's going to be the best night of the year, when the cold hard reality is that it'll probably be the worst.

Especially if you let you let your Boss lob it into ya in a drunken feel up session out the service entrance of the hotel!

Christmas party for team / department / division == cancelled
Christmas lunch for team == cancelled

Christmas bonus never happened, so that won't be cancelled.

Suits me ... the parties tend to be clique-fests, and I will not miss the 4 hour lunches of cheap turkey & ham served with a side order of false bonhomie, mind-numbing prattle and ar$e-numbing plastic chairs for plastic people with plastic smiles.

    Bah humbug!

Company party still on, free meal, not sure about drinks.
IT party on, think we have to pay €10, dunno what we get for that,

No, we never get a Christmas party. :(

We usually end up organising something ourselves. It usually involves going to a gig. That is perfect for me as that is my ideal Christmas party (I also do be heavily involved in the decision making process). :)

You a coder by any chance?

Anyway, ours is on, if the tales from last year is anything to go by it'll be one hell of a session

    :)

Haven't a clue what we're doing, but if it's like the previous few years:

    - we'll have to pay for it anyway
    - it'll be a meal in some chinese/italian/thai restaurant
    - 90% of people will go home after this as everyone will be driving anyway
    - what's even more annoying is that, unlike most companies, we don't get paid early in December so will be smashed for Xmas.
(of course on the "plus" side we don't have the 5-6 week pain of waiting for our next pay cheque I suppose)

    Bah humbug indeed! :(

I get 2, maybe 3. Paid for. For some crazy reason we have to spend our social budget, or we have it cut and they won't uncut it.

Its especially crazy when ya consider I work in a financial institute. Although not all of us get to go to the party, and no dates.

Working for myself, I may well lash out on paper hat, then send out flyers to find a suitable volunteer to shag in the broom cupboard. Bah humbug.

not this year... announced the dreaded "redundancy" recently which would mean the party would've been the week after people lost their jobs.. not entirely appropriate :(

my husband xmas party is a very fancy affair, in a *very* posh spa hotel, all food and drink paid for for the night and also hotel room paid for staff and their partners - YAY!

We haven't had a christmas party (or any type of company function) since 2 years ago when a company director was caught taking cocaine at it and ended up punching the head off one the managers resulting in the whole group being ejected from a top dublin nightclub.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

Christmas party is still on, as far as I know. There's a pre-Christmas party first though. Depending on how that goes I'll decide whether I want to go on the Christmas party or not.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,418 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

The company I work for (financial services) cancelled all Christmas parties for the group worldwide last week. Our Christmas bonus was already cancelled a few weeks ago. And we're one of the companies that's holding up very well in all the mess!

I wouldn't exactly describe what my employers lay on as a Christmas party. We get a free lunch and that's it. Tbh, I'm not fussed whether we get the free lunch this year or not. I'm not that desperate for dinner.

The place i work cancelled the christmas party 7 years ago the first year i started and there hasnt been one since. We get €30 a head to go out on the beer around xmas with our department.

    Not complaining though ;)

A lot of people are probably very lucky to be even keeping their jobs, nevermind having a party.
