An official from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said police found the men in the Jackson, Tennessee area with a number of guns, including a sawed-off shotgun, in their car.

'They wanted to go to a place where they could shoot as many non-Caucasian as they could,' the official said, noting that the men first planned to rob a gun dealer.

'They also had a plot to assassinate Senator Obama.'

Authorities have arrested two men for threatening to launch a "killing spree" in the state of Tennessee.

The agency said the alleged attack also threatened to either shoot or decapitate 102 black people.

Agents said they broke up plans by two "neo-Nazi skinheads" to rob a gun store and threaten a predominantly African-American high school, unsealed court records have revealed.

The records did not specify which school was alleged to be threatened.

US correspondent Ian Woods, in Washington, said the youth's alleged threat following the release of court records "does not make it a credible threat" to Mr Obama's life.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said the two men planned to shoot 88 black people and decapitate another 14.

The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

Cavanaugh said that the men also sought to go on a national killing spree, with Obama as their final target.

Woods said: "It is not necessarily a credible threat to the senator's life. But eight days before an election, clearly something like this will be taken very seriously."

The US government disrupted an unrelated alleged plot during the Democratic Party Convention in Denver, Colorado, in September.

He went to Hawaii because his grandmother that raised him most of his life, is seriously ill.

He lost his mother at a young age and when he was away from home so he returned to Hawaii recently to make sure that he didn't lose the chance to say his goodbyes if (as some sadly expect) she won't last till election day.

Credible means did they have both intent and capability to carry out their objective. You can have all the intent you want, but if you're dolts, you may not have a chance. The Denver plot apparently involved a long-distance shot in an environment which was completely indoors. Yeah, that's likely to succeed.

Given that there is enough wackos in America, (as elsewhere) taking into account its size, it would only take one of them to eventually to sadly succeed.
100 might try, but where 99 might fail, with persistence and ignorance 1 might (hopefully not) do some damage and that's all it would take to set the states back into the era of the 1950's/1960's and the turmoil of the yesteryear.

That would be a shame.

I seriously doubt that any assassination attempt on Obama will succeed. The greatest threat to any U.S. public figures comes from Al-Qaeda, a far more organised and dangerous group than these gobshites. If Bin Laden and pals can't get at American leaders, then there's no way these inbred, pointy-headed, KKK retards will succeed.

Agree, Bush would have been killed years ago if that was the case.

Still it's one thing to take out a polititian, but to try to kill an additional 100+ people? I don't get it.

Did you hear how they were going to try and assassinate Obama, they were going to drive at speed in a car and shoot out the windows at him LOL!!!!

The rednecks, nazi's, etc love Mr Bush and Cheney, they are gun lovers and NRA fans to the hilt (hell, they have interests in Haliburton and Blackwater alone). Why shoot yourself in the foot by taking out the people that keeps the laws on the books, that allows you to have all the weapons you want!

(One example: the NRA prior to the Democratic convention had sent their own lobbist group to the same city to pressurise Obama and co into thinking their way, inviting them along to a "private function". Obama declined.)
