Sci-Fi Soc?

I'm glad to see a new Sci Fi soc starting, but it makes me feel kind of bitter.

I tried to get signups to Strange Things the year it died, and nobody would join.

*me standing by a table with Star Trek VHSs and and Stargate DVDs*

Some person: "Oh, Strange Things! That sounds cool! What is it?"

Me: "A Sci Fi Soc!"

Some person suddenly disintrested: "Oh." *walks away*

i can't wait for this soc to start up, i love sci-fi and it's great to find people who share my interest. ^^

Apparently redbrick would give us our own section- may work better as redbrick seems to be the online hub of clubs and socs.
A forum may be nice though...

k so we were thinkin( myself and ciaran, not on boards unfortunately) of handing these out tomoro in the hub and stickin them up around the place.any ideas good bad???

Carri i herad about a30 euro budget for the clubs and socs for printing etc for next week any idea do we get that or what since were not fully in there????

Maybe give a time and room and organise an actual meeting on the 5th or 6th - give people a taste of the soc before it actually kicks off

Or if you are doing loads of stuff, do something on the 5th and 6th - like a movie/3 eps of a tv show on one day and I dont know.. recreate the OK Coral with nerf guns.. or just have a **** load of sci fi books/comics on a desk and chat *shrugs*

just make sure you get them stamped or approved by someone in the su we dont wanna start off on bad terms with them

btw i think myself and ciaran will be goin into town this weekend so well drop in to forbidden planet and see if they have any old signs posters theyd like to donate as opposed to throwin them out.

also brainwave. i was thinkin should we hold a competition to come up with our society crest?? have the commiktee decide and give out a nice nerdy prize???

Thursday (tomorrow) 2nd October, 6pm Upstairs in the HUB opposite the student union offices. Bring any ideas, etc you have for the soc.

Yes there is a €30 budget. But ST also has a bank account. I'll explain that tomorrow.
I have the passcodes to the website too.
Also I have access to the SU offices after hours via my student card.

Eh.. I have Regulations and Guidelines for Clubs and Socs, we need to go through that too.

Hey Folks,

I was the last Chair of Strange things before it um died due to lack of interest,

Its great to see it getting back on its feet though, I think I was talking to Carri there during the week.

I'm involved er, quite heavily in Clubs and Socs in DCU so give me a shout if you need help with anything or advise and such.

I'll deffinitly see you guys on Clubs and Socs Days

What type of lollies/sweets will I get and how much?
Can anyone do up a quick slide show to show on their laptop with a soundtrack maybe?
