Mairt me arse... I'm injuried with a fractured rib :( - happened in the simplest way too, giving a Judo demonstration at a community centre open night.

Anyway, the scumbags. If people here could see on my face the images of punishment I have in my mind the internet would crash

Just to point out that even though the article mentions "local youths" as being suspected for the crime, I don't think they mean 2 or 3 10 year olds. "Local youths" could mean 7 or 8 (or more) 15, 16 or 17 year olds and this could be why local people (who could be old) are less than enthusiastic in helping out the police.
Not to mention even if they where caught all they'd get is a slap-on-the-wrist punishment (as opposed to the banger-in-the-mouth punishment they deserve)

gardi should be given extra powers to round up these scumbags like the f'n animals they are and take them to the dog pound to castrate them and stop them breeding, and if the parents don't come get them put them the f down

What I want to know is what the hell is being done about this?

Before the last general election, I went through the policies of the various parties and examined their intentions with regard to revision of laws relating to animal rights.

From what I could make out, only the Green Pary had any intentions of changing legislation to give more protection to animals. This included the banning of fox hunting. I voted for the Greens on this premise.

How long have they been power and nothing done so far? Just goes to show that they're just like the rest of the useless bastards in Dáil Éireann.

There should be a wholesale review of the sentences applicable to cruelty against animals. We have the worst record on animal rights in the EU and it's about time we started doing something about it.

I tend to worry a lot about the type of mind that thinks this **** is amusing.

If only because it is likely to breed.

There is good reason to be concerned. A person who can harm an animal for fun lacks empathy, not just for anmals but almost certainly for people aswell. And people who lack empathy are potentially dangerous, at the very least capable of very anti-social behaviour but possibly worse. Some of the world's worst serial killers (the likes of Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacey and David Berkowitz for example) had a history of torturing and abusing animals before they moved on to killing and torturing people.

Presumably it was done by really scummy, dangerous individuals. Have to say I freely admit I wouldn't be able to stand up to scumbags - for the simple reason I wouldn't want to gamble the possibility of them carrying a knife.

Probably just a bunch of young fcukheads thinking they're hard, and as Dragan said these type of lads are invariably only hard and tough when they're in the group. Single one of them out and he'd probably be shown up for the coward he is. Best thing to do would be take their picture as evidence and call the guards. Sadly even if prosecuted they would probably escape with minor punishment.

No its not. Its cruel to inflict unnecessary pain and suffering on a harmless animal that you've no intention of eating.

    That poor bird :(

Was only thinking the exact same thing the other day! I voted for them because of their supposed promises on these issues. What exactly have they done since getting into power. sweet feck all

socialist party's clare daly who I didnt vote for has done more by getting circuses banned in Fingal

One other thing, if a case like this did make it to court you'd love to see the judge make an example of the little fcukers. Send them to Mountjoy for a few months and see how tough they'd be in there. Unfortunatley the judge's hands are often tied in these situations with jail space at a premium.

The greens have to be the most useless political party in the history of Irish politics, and that's really saying something.

Yes. And the reason for that is that the monarchy would traditionally eat them.

Anyway. This sort of thing comes as no surprise to me at all. My office over looks that park. I know only too well the sort of scumbag teenagers that are on the streets here.

They're absolute cowards too... Got in scuffle with a bunch of them only on Friday. They'll always wait until your back is turned to have a go at you and they'll always have to have a lot of their friends around. You see them on their own and they'll cross the road to avoid you.

Plenty of tea and biscuits here if Dragan and Mairt ever want to drop around to my office.

There are more pressing problems than animal rights in ireland. Infact, they're pretty damn far down the list.

Also there is nothing wrong with fox hunting.

Any idea which little ****ers did it Monkey?

Nice to see an AH thread that shows solidarity on something like this. Absolute scum whoever attacked that poor animal - it's wierd though I think. For some reason I think it's sadder because it's a swan compared to another animal....why is that!?

    I hate Swans.
In the old days people would put a coal in an eggshell to stop dogs from stealing eggs.
They would catch seagulls with fishing line (to eat).

Cruelty to animals is part of our culture and it must be respected.

Yeah but everybody in government has a job assigned to them(or so we're lead to believe) so while have Mary Hearney "working" hehe on health issues education minister "doing their thing" etc etc why can't John Gormless be doing something at the same time? These issues were stated in their policy as priorities

Probably because you called him 'John Gormless', politicians have feelings too.

Or, y'know, once again it could be that in the face of the other problems that affect actual people nobody really gives two shits about animals.

People seem to easily overlook the fact that they are killing, or attacking other organisms and life forms during every second of their lives.

From the antibodies in your bloodstream attacking and killing viruses, to you killing bacteria on your hands with antibacterial wash; from the farmers who uproot plant life and the slaughtermen who kill animals on your behalf, it is just one long battle between humanity and every other form of life that exists.

We either kill them, or they kill us. There is no middle ground.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Right so - injuring animals with firecrackers is fair enough cuz it's part of life like washing bacteria off one's hands...
Plenty of tea and biscuits here if Dragan and Mairt ever want to drop around to my office.
And coffee? Dragan strikes me as a coffee person.
there is nothing wrong with fox hunting.
In your opinion. In my opinion and that of many others, there is a lot wrong with a pack of dogs chasing and terrorising a fox until the creature collapses and faces an agonising death.
    I hate Swans.
What exactly is there to hate? They pretty much swim and mind their own business. They're also nice to look at.

I'm pretty sure he's supposed to do more than that.

Besides, i know you care, your signature gives that away, but most people don't care about animal rights.

It doesn't affect them. A story like this attracts attention because it's unusual, but i guarantee you that inbetween this story getting posted and my post right now, a good few animals have been killed in a manner that would upset you.
And people don't care, because in the face of all of modern lifes troubles, economic woes and what have you, the life of a cat is of no concern to them.

And i don't care how many late nights John Gormley pulls or how hard he works he can't change that.
