    hey animaX

using the link you posted to unlock my iphone i am happy to report it was successful. if i sound suprised...its because i am! and only because i am useless at things like this as they never seem to work for me! so i was delighted when i followed the very simple instructions and it worked!!

so if anyone needs to unlock their version 1 iphone, follow the link animaX posted a few pages back....it works a treat!

    Thanks animaX!

Probably a dumb question but does phone need to be on 2.* before using this tutorial?

Just upgraded my First Gen iPhone to firmware 2.1 using Pwnage 2.1 (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/).

All seemed to go smoothly... onto the testing now I suppose.

    Basquille , when I open winpwn 2.5 it gives me 3 options :2.0 , 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 .

My iPhone is currently running 2.0.1 , I take it that I go for the 2.0.2 option .

Just updated too using Pwnage (on Mac OS X obviously) - update went very smoothly, no difference from updating to 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 really. No issues having iTunes 8 installed either - now to see if this solves the persistent SMS keyboard lag I've had with the previous 2.x firmware versions...

no 2.1 is what you are looking for you can find a direct link for downloading it from www.hackint0sh.org or you could let iTunes download it

Btw I updated last night as well but had a problem with pwnage 2.1 error 2000 and error 1600 when restoring with any custom firmware however quickpwn worked perfectly

and 2.1 seems a lot better than any of the previous 2.* versions so far more like the performance on 1.1.4 but with appstore

I got an error 1600 when I restored the custom firmware in iTunes the first time.. but I rebuilt the custom firmware a second time. And all was fine.

Cant upgrade to 2.1 on mac for some reason. pwnage tool doesn't detect the 2.1 firmware that i downloaded through itunes and quickpwn says my firmware isn't supported when i connect my iphone. When i point pwnage to 2.1 it says wrong firmware bundle selected. I've updated pwnage to the latest version.

    Any ideas?

Are you sure you're using Pwnage 2.1? I got that error last night and realised I was using Pwnage 2.0.2.

yeah tried that rebuilt it a couple of times to no avail even completely uninstalled itunes and installed again (apples suggested solution to a 1600 error) but made no difference

So I just restored to standard 2.1 and did a quickpwn and it worked first time

Just did another one and pwnage worked this time no probs so it may have been the phone

if you have a mac just quickpwn it

If not then I presume u mean 2.1 not 2.01 if yes restore to an older version like 2.02 and use winpwn

    http://winpwn.com/index.php/Main_Page

    get winpwn here

then if you are on 2.1 you need to go back to an earlier version

    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-5246.20080818.2V0hO/iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw
In itunes click restore and hold the shift key at the same time then browse to where you downloaded the ipsw file select it

wait for iphone to restore and then use winpwn to activate jailbreak and unlock

Need a couple of pointers guys. I have the first gen iPhone unlocked and Jailbroken using 1.4f/w and the fake 3.9 bootloader. I downloaded
WinPwn 2.5.0.2 and have it on my PC(Win Vista).

    1. What version of ITunes should I be running before I attempt this.

    2. Do I need to restore the iphone to the original apple fw first or can I just restore to 2.0.2 ect directly to the phone as it is with WinPwn.

    3. What then?

A few pointers would be appericated as some suggest I would have to upgrade to apples newest firmware using iTunes first basically making my phone unusable and then use WinPwn or can I just run WinPwn on my phone as is doing the whole unlock/activate thing again.

BTW guys I initially jailbroke and unlocked the phone using iplus.

Swirly MMS now available on Cydia for 2.x firmware :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭Prisoner6409

After much pulling of hair(getting 1600/1601 errors) I finally sussed it. My problem now is the phone number format has changed to (018)-xxx-xxx. How can I change this back to the proper one. I am sure with 1.1.4 I used an app from the installer which is not there any more. Is there a similar one in Cydia.

Is there any way to go from 1.1.4 to 2.1 on windows. I know Winpwn doesn't support this yet. BTW i previously unlocked using the iPlus method with fake bootloader. Any help would be appreciated.

Also below is a link to headphones i got of pixmania which support the funtionality of the origional headphones but have way superior sound quality, thought i'd post if anyone was looking for good headphones :D

It has been said that you can go from 2.0.2 to the offical apple 2.1 using Itunes update and your phone will remain unlocked and activated but you will loose 3rd party apps like Cydia and Installer. Did this not happen in your case, what method did you use to 2.1. What I would do is restore to 1.1.4 and then use WinPwn 2.0.4 and Itunes 7.7 to pawn it.

Yep, just used it to jailbreak/unlock an 1.1.3 iphone (originally 1.1.2) with no hassles. Now on 2.1 and like the changes so far (make sure to do a back up on itunes first).
