Yeah it's a real friendly country alright-go to any casualty department on a Saturday night/Sunday morning and see how friendly it is-guys heads ripped open with broken glass, fractured skulls from fights in our towns-yes I would say that the source got it right!!!!!

    Yeah.
That doesn't happen anywhere else in the world. Ever. FACT!!!

Yes but then America did rank higher than Ireland. And Americans are very friendly - sometimes annoyingly so - there just not that smart.
Is that an example of how smart you are?
Don't think the Yanks have got too much to worry about, so. :D

    Breaking News!

A thread on After Hours that isn't claiming Ireland sucks balls! Users shocked. More at 11.
Wasn't in a great mood but a hearty giggle from that brought me outta my rut!

    Cheers Karl.

Wow my grammar isn't perfect. It's a good thing I'm not doing my PhD in English then. I know that your level of spelling and grammar on an internet forum is the metric to measure your IQ level so I apologise I didn't take time in the 23 seconds I took to right the post to double check my grammar.

Ah, I was only yanking your chain. No need to get excited about it. Calling 260 million or so people not smart just seemed a bit silly, that's all.

Ireland a friendly country??? NOWAY!!! This small xenophibic anti-immigrant isolated island suddenly became friendly? Who is the person that says that? What a bloody joke??? Maybe he means Scotland???

Where the hell is the friendliness? I lived in that place for 2 years, nobody was smiling at me, no Irish friends, I didn't know even my neighbors!!! Where the hell is the friendly city?

Scotland, Italy, France (parts of it), Greece, Spain, Holland, Turkey, Portugal, USA Texas... those countries yes are friendly. But Ireland not at all. Very snobby and conservative.

Well your certainly not friendly Freddy, that really hurt my feelings. I even cried a little. :(

Ireland has been named as the world's friendliest country in a new list of top travel destinations from Lonely Planet.

The Bluelist 2008 says Irish people have a dark sense of humour, a welcoming nature and an ability to have fun in boom or bust times.

It also reports an air of cautious optimism "infecting the land" following the ending of the Troubles in the North.

The US, Malawi, Turkey and Scotland make up the rest of Lonely Planet's top-five friendly nations.

Well sure and begorrah, tis a cead mile failte to the world! Would you agree we're a friendly bunch?

Only answering the op here, so don’t jump down me pie hole if ive missed something.
Asking for my opinion and my experience? Having lived abroad for 5/6 years and then returned ... im sorry but Irish hospitality leaves alot to be desired. Its all great craic when you’re out and drinking, then we are the best place to come to but when it comes to the every day course of life I have found Ireland to be full of disgruntled shop keepers, lazy builders, rudest motorists and a society of “looking out for me” people. One example, having broken down in a single lane road in a tiny little Daewoo matiz, with my two year old son in the back and being visibly pregnant the only help I got was from motorist behind me honking their horn, and in front of me flipping me off. Its not as if someone couldn’t stop and help me push the car 400mtrs into a siding (there were only ditches either side of me where I was) as I saw plenty of cars whiz past my ear with at least 3 or 4 young fellas who could have helped. No instead I had to take my life and my babies life in hand and push the car myself while there were large trucks going 60mph past on the opposite side 2 inch‘s from my car door… nearly losing the baby later I might add. I had no phone to hand and there were no buildings near by before you ask.
Having had a similar break down a number of times in another country there were always at least 2 or 3 people who stopped to help. Just one example of how Ireland is not the nicest place in the world.

Steady on Freddy. Pighead's guessing you got dumped by a lady friend recently which is causing you to hit out at the closest thing to hand. In this case, Ireland.

It's not Irelands fault you were an inadequate lover. It's not Ireland who went to bed with their socks on. It's not Ireland who broke your heart. Irelands not to blame here, Freddyland is.

eh! first of all this is not attitude but a reaction. Second I have nothing against your personality. How you dare to talk abt me when you just don't know me at all? I am a very easy going personality and if you deny the facts I don't care. Just go and ask a few people from other countries who live in Ireland if they feel welcomed or not!!! If you are the best let others say that. Do you really think that my attitude is the problem? Then why Ireland is the only country that I didn't make friends. I shared the moments of my life with fellows from so many different countries but not with Irish. Unless if all the other countries are junk and you are really believe that you are superiors!

Yes this is the Irish humor now? Well turn on the heating. I'm freezing...

If you can't discuss a little bit more civilized then just disconnect your internet..

Pighead's just trying to get to the bottom of your utter hatred of this fair green friendly land of ours. Generally when one man produces hatred on a scale such as this there is a lady and a broken heart involved. If it isn't a fair dame that has unleashed this bitterness than what could it be?

Have you ever been to Dundalk? We were voted the friendliest town in Co Louth last year. Come up and visit. You can sleep with Pighead' mammy.

I didn't mention anything about hatred and stuff like that. I am happy if you say Dundalk is the friendliest town.

Not there is not such a thing like a lady. This bitterness as you describe is coming from the lonely city of Dublin. I used to complain the English about the coldness but personally I found out that everywhere is friendlier than Ireland. I was racially abused despite I am not black not Asian, not east European... I know I am talking with generalizations but I don't mean that all the Irish I met was rude and racists and snobby...

Can you please ask me why Ireland is the only country I didn't make friends???

If you think that I hate Ireland so much then learn that I was very interested about the Irish culture and history and I really wanted to make it home trying to keep connection with mostly Irish people.

Do you know what pisses me off??? When immigrants choose a place only for employment and they don't wanna be assimilated creating thus a country within a country.

Not the friendliest, not too bad though.

until about 2pm today i would have said Ireland is the friendliest country until i was standing minding my own business in town and 4lovely gold hooped earring girls came up to me and went "oh you think your sh#t hot in your ralph lauren top don't ya?" i was going to respond until i saw the size of two of them :O
    grrrr...

    not exactly the friendly irish!!

See thats your problem right there...Contrary to popular belief, especially on these boards; Dublin is not Ireland.
Did you live anywhere outside Dublin in your 2 year stay?

I have to mention first of all I have nothing against any1 here in this forum...

Yes I've been it was pretty much the same. It reminds me a lot of London in something like countryside-style... I've been to Meath, Weastmeath, Drogheda, Co. Wicklow but I cannot say anything... I didn't live there it was just a travel. Despite this I found the midlands more xenophobic... but I may be wrong it was just a 2 or 3 days trip

Everything deserves a second chance buddy. Pighead once bought a packet of Kimberley biscuits, those delicious gingery biscuits enclosing a soft sticky marshmallow centre encrusted with sugar, only to find they tasted of rats piss. No joking. Every single one of them tasted of rats piss. That was back in 97. Told all and sundry that there would be no more Kimberley's passing Pigheads lips.

Then last year whilst feeling drunk and forgiving took one in a friends house and you know what? They tasted beautiful. Turned out it was just that one pack of Kimberleys that were stained in rats piss. A glitch. Not the norm, a mistake. Haven't looked back since. Eating one now actually.

Those cookies sound delicious! (Not the rat piss ones.)

You have no idea PillyPen. Here's a picture. Doesn't do them nearly enough justice but it'll give you an idea as to how they operate.

Can you get them anywhere? They look incredible.

Here's my favorite local PA candy. Chocolate cup with marshmallow and coconut inside. Soooo delicious!

That doesn't do justice either, but it's better than nothing.
