Don't know if this has been asked already or not so apologies if it has. What's the story if I bring my car to the airport and head off on holidays for 2 weeks. How am I expected to pay the toll by 8 o clock the following day if I don't have access to a pc or a phone?

What backward airport is this that has neither Internet kiosks nor payphones nor mobile coverage? You're right, though, up to a point - some extra payment time would seem more than fair, but a fortnight just isn't going to happen.

Thats for the post pay, but for pre-registered this doesn't exist.
I've had a tag for ages either way as it often saves me 1.30 each way on the M4 due to only having 2 euro coins on me!

Why don't you go to he cashier and get change???

Just as depressing is the beaten acceptance of the M50 toll regieme at all.

If this,or any Government wishes to featherbed it`s corporate supporters then let it do so from a clear and obvious green field site.

My point on the WestLink/M50 is that we are maintaining a situation which was decidedly suspect from the word go.
The WestLink bridge should NEVER have been a toll facility in the first place.

It sits in mute testimony to the concerted activities of so many of the "colourful" characters whose self-serving meddling has left Dublin with a vast and apparently insoluble social disaster on its Western fringes.

As we read the thread we witness this awful "where do I pay" attitude which appears to pervade every nook and cranny of Irish society these days.

The Original WestLink NTR agreement was an anti-social and highly dubious piece of work which has been superceeded by an even more suspect one which has the capability to be a REAL earner for the descendants of the crooks that have already fleeced us to the bone !! :(

Time + I wasn't aware there were cashiers at 2am

There definitely aren't on the middle gates (Enfield exit) at that time, the times I've used them. And I drive mostly at night.

All toll plazas must be staffed 24/7/365.

The Enfield offramps aren't, just a phone link back to the Kilcock plaza. Chancers, if they're breaking their contract.

I was going home the other day, the man in front threw his money in but it didn't register - instead of checking for rejected coins he just ranted and threw some more in... I got a free pass. ;)

It took two attempts to get that coin accepted this morning  , but can't complain too much as it was buckshee ;)

What happens if there is a problem? Tag/coins fails to register. You can hardly reverse back down the slip road.

Press the alert button, chances are they'll just open the barrier and let you go.

what is the pay as you go option advertised on the radio? I have just managed to catch the end of the ad so haven't got all the details or caught the number or website. apparently you can prepay in Centra and Supervalu. Does any one know what the details are? I thought it was tolltag.ie but the web site is very poor with little information. Is it possible to keep a few trips in credit on the tag? It also state no monthly admin fee.

That sounds like Tolltag. You can top up at shops showing the PostPoint sign. However, the tag costs €30 for which you receive €4.40 in credit. That will give you two passes through the M50 since they add 10% to the toll each time you use the tag instead of charging the admin fee.

The tag has to be kept in credit - how much is up to you.

    following on from the above...

Has anyone received their eflow tags yet?

in reply to my own question
Thank you for contacting eFlow Customer Services.

Your initial start-up amount of €40 will be credited to your pre-paid account around the 18th of August. After this has been received by us, your tag will be processed and posted to your registered address. You should have have already received a welcome pack (containing a welcome letter to confirm your details are correct, and a booklet of our Terms & Conditions) and your tag will be delivered with an information leaflet on how to activate your tag and install correctly in your car. Each tag is assigned to a specific license plate number.

The tag will be available to use on toll roads straight away after activation.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind regards,
    eFlow Customer Services

Had to cancel my account a few weeks back as I changed my mind about video registration vs tag. Account is still in the "pending close" stage. Grrr.

anyone know how much disruption will be caused as they remove the old booths. presumably they will all have to be removed as you cant spped through the gates at 120 without some risk. presumably they will just join up the road markings from either side but I havn't seen anything about the demolition disruption:eek:

They'll probably leave the roof on it and just take the booths away - that could be done at night I'd imagine.

I expect that they would just have traffic using the three outermost lanes with the barriers up (or removed) while they rebuild the road on the middle section.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Pittabang

no way they will leave the roof on, it would need to be supported and that would cause issues. If there is no widespread plan - I predict chaos from the end of the month for a while:mad::mad::mad:

Enquired to e-flow about grace for going on holidays and this is their reply. Basically no grace will be given.

Thank you for contacting eFlow Customer Services.
If you are en route to Dublin Airport after using eFlow on the M50 and are unregistered, you can pay the toll at a nearby Payzone retail outlet showing the eFlow logo, the Spar at Dublin Airport (located in the Hall of the Multi Storey Car Park - opening hours 07:00 - 22:00) and the Esso Service Station are Payzone agents. You can also pay on-line at www.eflow.ie or telephone our Customer Service Centre on LoCall 1890-50-10-50. This can all be done at the airport before you leave.

If the unregistered user does not pay the toll within the time frame (i.e. by 8:00 the following day) then a Standard Toll Request (STR) is issued to them within 5 days for an amount of the base toll (i.e. €3 ) and an admin. charge of €3 = €6 . They have a period of 14 days to pay this.
If they do not pay the STR within the time frame then they will be issued with an Unpaid Toll Notice (UTN) within 5 days of the expiry of the STR and a further fine of €40 ( total now €46). They have a period of about 56 days to pay this.
If they do not pay this UTN within the time frame then they will be issued with a further fine ("default toll") of €100 (total now €146).
If they do not pay this within time frame their details are sent to the Enforcement Service Provider for action.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
    Kind regards,

    eFlow Customer Services

it's not just a roof, there are offices in that roof. I know, I've worked there several times before they shipped the company out to citywest about 3 years ago.

    From aaroadwatch...
REMOVING THE WEST LINK TOLL PLAZA: Works to remove the West Link toll plaza will begin on the 30th August and are likely to take most of September to complete. • The initial plans suggest that during the first few days, the outer 3 lanes will be closed in each direction, leaving the four lanes closest to the building open to traffic. • During that time, it is expected that the outer 3 lanes will have their booths, plinths, services and overhead canopy removed and a temporary surface will be placed on the road.

    • Once this is complete it is planned that traffic will use the outer 3 lanes and the four inner lanes will be closed in each direction. As all barriers and height restrictions will have been removed, any type of vehicle can use any lane. • It is hoped that there will be minimal impact on traffic as there will be no barriers in place during all demolition works

Makes sense as the outer three lanes each side are a different structure to the core plaza.

You are totally correct in your remarks about this. We do lie down and accept these situations much too easily. It even took me a few days to post a reply since I wasn't sure if I should waste my time with a response that will probably fall on deaf ears.

The previous collectors of the Westlink toll seemed to be able to make ample profits for themselves and the government by charging €2. Now we have the government, acting in our interests, who need us to pay an additional administration fee or higher tolls in order to finance the same operation.

It is, as you say, depressing.:(

dont know if anyone has thought about it/mentioned it but my plan would to get everybody to tailgate each other so close that the camera's couldnt read the number plates as the vehicle in front would be blocking them! problem would be getting everybody doing so but if everybody did this at rush hours they would soon lose money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,004 ✭✭✭✭AlekSmart

I can absolutely guarantee u Adamski8 that if your suggested action were to take place it would be crushed with extreme predjudice....This new electronic state sponsored skimming simply HAS to work if it`s designers and backers are to succeed in our brave new world.

Rest assured that IF any group of Motorists were to stage such a protest as many Gardai as were required would be drafted in to smash it !! :D

well it would be hard to organise anyway. my personal plan is to tailgate a big truck as there is always plenty of them. they only read the front number plate so im thinking this will work

I predict a lot of shunts in the area of the plaza over the next few months. :(

Finally I decided that eFlow tag was best value.

    1) Site won't work with Opera.
    2) Credit card only for Video Method.
    3) Account creation failed as I have no cash on my Laser. Typical for 1 or 2 weeks a month as I have a very low overdraft limit.
    4) Won't take my credit card.

eflow is a private company yet when I put my car registration, It had all the other details.

    5) No method to cancel an account and stop the 1 euro a month rip-off for tag.

I can see me going via city centre or maynooth. It was bad having to pay before but this is stupidity. I'm not going to pay 3, 5 or 15 or whatever a pop because they can't send a Tag or operate video at same price.

    6) no place to specify different post tag to address and credit card / laser card address.

Blame the state, who sell the NVDF to all and sundry.

I think we need to blame the state for another fiasco. Who ever thought they could operate a toll bridge better than private enterprise?

Are you surprised? This is pretty common as an anti-fraud measure.
