Mt. Leinster now transmitting in MPEG4

Switched on the TV this am and the DTT channels were not being picked up even though signal was 100%. Did a rescan and it picked up 9 channels instead or the usual 15 or so. Rte1,2, TV3, TG4, Radio1,2, Lyric, Today FM and RNaG. Is the new lineup for the public service MUX (minus the HD Test and Oireachteas and the other radio stations). Also seems to be MPEG4 broadcast as I can find the channels on my WinTV usb stick but it only reads the audio stream. Picture quality looks excellent on the main TV. Must try out text/mheg to see if there is anything there.

Anyone with the humax trial box getting the new mpeg4 tests.
I have one but am only getting sound but blank screen.

Seems to be slight aspect ratio problems with the software I'm using. Not auto detecting like it was when it was MPEG2

But H.264 @ 2.5 ~ 3 MB/s looks pretty sweet.

It almost feels like I'm living in a technologically advanced country.

I have the box and no problems yet from 3 Rock. I assume you're in Claremont Cairn. I assume I'll get the blank screen in a day and a half. I shall miss UK TV, but maybe that'll do me no harm. I haven't retuned to test if I'm picking them up but I assume that I'll have the same thing after tomorrow.

I have tried default mode which reboots and starts new installation finds channels same as before sound but black screen

You didn't say what transmitter you were near, which would have a bearing. I'm not sure what's happening with Claremont Cairn. But 3 Rock will probably go down like this until next week. The full Irish channel tests should return in MPEG4. So try again middle of next week. In other areas like Mount Leinster transmitter, 9 channels total are up now, The 4 Irish and the remainder, radio, reflecting that this is for the RTÉ FTA mux only. So try again next week with the default retune and 0000. The downtime is likely due to multiplex reconfiguration by RTÉ to reflect its non-UK channel focus purpose.

Im getting sound and no vision on RTE 1, RTE 2, TV3 and tng on a sony w2000 series tv any ideas how to get the picture ? can I get a card to upgrade to mpeg 4 ?

In theory yes. In practice wait till service launced so you don't buy something obsolete.

If you have a PCMCIA slot in the back of your TV, which you should have in this class of a SONY TV, stick this yoke into it and you will be able to receive the new RTE FTA MPEG4 broadcasts.

I think that Mt.Leinster is just switched on.

There is a cam that converts from MPEG4 to MPEG2 for your TV. I don't know the cost. The picture quality will degrade a little though, otherwise an MPEG4 set top box is needed.

And why should a lcd come to the idea to pipe the ts stream through a conditional access modul for a mux which is marked FTA?

It wouldn't be as simple as that. I know that when my wharfedale freeview box tries to access the SD Test channel, it will not be displayed and the box claims it is scrambled or encrypted. Regardless of the TS flag.

Your wharfedale box is not able to handle mpeg4 and as error message you get what the firmware coder thaught is the reason for not accessable data.

Your post is a little unclear, but I think you're just making the point I was making. The TS is not passed through the CAM. I believe a particular TV channel on the mux is passed through the box's decoder and if that doesn't work, it sends it on to the CAM.

Either way though, the CAM is not there to decrypt the TS, only its contents.

A module in CAM slot need not be for decryption. I'll know more on the Neotion pocket Duo when the regular MPEG4 start on Three Rock.

just back from holiday to find the test over.

Are the new MPEG4 channels on the same frequency? My T6900 will pick them up no probs.

Pointing at 3Rock, On Ch 54, 738MHz, I can pick up a strong signal but am only receiving 2 encrypted channels, SD Test 1 and HD Test 1.

Has anyone had any success?

Hi. Can anyone tell what the audio parameters for the radio channels are now in MPEG4 from Mount Leinster?

On MPEG2 from Three Rock, AFAIK, they were 48kHz sampling, 192 kbps bitrate, MP3 encoding. Thanks in advance.

DVB doesn't use MP3. MP2 or AAC.

In the original post, Slegs would appear to have pulled in BOTH picture and sound on the main TV. No PCMCIA card. No transcoder. No STB.

Can I ask what brand and model managed this? And has anyone else been as fortunate with other hardware?
