I'm staying on Parkgate Street and don't know the area. Will it be alright to walk from there to the tent without getting knifed and, if so, how long will it take?

its walkable but it could take a good 20-30 mins depending on your pace....we walked it when the Red Hot Chilli Peppers played there a couple of years ago.....cant comment on the knifing....i'd like to think you'll be safe and you'd have to imagine there will be others walking too....

How long will it take for you to get knifed? Not long!

Seriously, though, if you walk along Chesterfield Ave you should be fine. It's pretty busy. Not sure how long it will take you to walk, probably over 30 mins. From what I can gather, walk up chesterfield Ave and at the 2nd roundabout you should be able to see the venue on the right.

My problem is what to do after the gig. The prospect of walking all the way back to Parkgate St to get a bus into town doesn't sound promising, but it looks like the only option.

Heckle him on the Thursday night and I for one will insure you will be only be able to communicate using sign language;)

This will be my third Waits Gig, having seen him in Paris and London. You will be in the presence of greatness and there is no such thing as a bad Waits gig. Truely brilliant and well worth the money IMO. He will chill you to your bone marrow and raise your soul to heights a boatfull of oiled up, horned up female nubians could not reach. Remember this will probably be the only time you will hear him live in this country, he is doing this tour for the fans and I imagine he will not be making it an annual event, given the last gig was in 87' you should feel privilaged to see the legend himself. Arguably the best showman alive!
well his live album nighthawks at the diner was absolutely dire and I doubt it would have been much better if you were at the performance.

I think 20 mins should do you from the main gate of the park.. maybe a few minutes longer if you are taking a stroll. As far as I recall, the tent site is closer to the main gate than the Arcade Fire tent last year.

As for safety - beforehand, if the weather is anything like today and yesterday the park will be packed so no worries there.. afterward, there will be a marquee full of people all heading the same direction with security etc floating around.. Should be fine. (Maybe walk beside someone weaker or slower looking than you just in case :) )

For afterwards, another option would be to walk out to Blackhorse Ave or Navan Road, both of which, I believe, have buses to city centre. Probably closer than the main gate.

I'm driving up to the gig tomorrow from Cork. Can anyone recommend the best route to take when coming into Dublin area - looking at the map the most straightforward would seem to be to come onto the M50 (from Cork where it meets the N7), then drive along the M50 until I reach the N3 and swing down towards Phoenix Park.

Not knowing Dublin too well though I'm worried however that the M50 may be snails pace at this time (6pm'ish), and if so there may be a better route to take?

    Any advice greatly appreciated,

    jAH

Must disagree with the above Nighthawks statement, I think it's class! Can you not hear or even feel the charisma oozing from your speakers? The dialog is so witty in his own twisted fashion, you could just listen to him talk for 50 minutes, but then there's the music. It's so laid back, he is perfectly comfortable on stage, barraging his audience with balladry and mockery, it's a joy. I know the show will be a lot different this weekend, with only a few smatterings of his earlier parlor music, the splashy symbols, rumbling bass lines and tinkling piano, but look to the glitter and doom "press release" video, it's that twisted genius that makes it so funny that is interwoven in his music with a bittersweet edge that only surfaces on stage. How can you criticize nighthawks? Or pretty much anything he does? It might not be perfect, but that's what makes it so special!!!!

that's the mentality that has him charging over 100 euro a ticket for his show. Above criticism my hole. Been one of my favourite artists for 10 years and he's buckets of talent but charging that much for tickets is an insult. If I went I'd have the same mentality as the person ho said they were going ready to heckle - I'd feel cheated if I wasn't blown away by the performance.
They're taking the piss. I get the impression (possibly wrongly) that every time the tickets are sold out they are shoving more seats in. I saw the post showing the prices in America are much more reasonable. wtf.

Pwd, I'm no fan of these excessive ticket prices either, but let's not forget that it's normally not the artist who chooses the ticket prices, it's more likely Aiken's fault for the ridiculous price.

There's a difference between the US and our prices for two reasons- the difference in "quality of living" in terms of cost- but with that said we're probably still charging higher. Plus, there's the high cost of transport in terms of travelling to Ireland- this always means we'll have higher costs than a US tour.

There is a 3rd reason- and that's because us Irish are notorious for paying whatever it takes for a gig. If we want prices to drop we need to stop buying tickets which have excessive prices. I've made an exception for Waits but I've yet to fork out the prices charged for The Boss, Leonard Cohen, Dylan, the Stones, etc.

    Yeah that's my point

So... how do you get out to this place by public transport? The Ticketbastard email was very uninformative.

I don't think there's any special buses laid on as far as i can see, im gonna bus it in to town early and catch a taxi out around 6ish. There could be major delays with this anti touting thingy......

In this case Tom had the final say on ticket prices.
Still lets hope it's a great gig either way.

I reckon he did about half a song before he burst out laughing at the audience. Then belched at them, urinated on some of the ones in the front row, and staggered off for a drink.

Last night was excellent. I had chilli fries for my dinner and then I sat down to watch the QPR highlights dvd of last season with a couple of beers. Really enjoyed it.

Yo yo looking forward to this gig tonight.

Whats the story with this "Rat cellar". Is it any good? I know its some marquee... Its been up a few years in a row with different stuff on but Ive never been in it.

More importantly... I assume theres a bar...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭Qprmeath

There is a bar but Id imagine if ticket prices are anything to go by it will be about €12 a pint.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,859 ✭✭✭✭cormie

How's the service here? It's alright? I mean they give you beer and everything, don't have to pay or nothing? Well they hit you up at the door on the way out.

    :D

Can anyone advise me on how long it will talk me to get there on foot from Hueston Train station? Coming up from Galway and dont fancy hanging about Dublin on a friday eve so will be arriving at 5.30 and plan to walk, I know I did for some other gig a few years back...

See the previous pages. It should take you about 40 mins walk from Heuston Station.
