    +1

I only seek to mess. Generalizing nations and peoples as this and that is why we have such things as "genocides" and "wars"

Thailand, they are the most laid back cool people I've ever come accross. They just strut around nice and slow in the heat, nothing bothers them!

After. Cool is a twentieth century thing.

We better close this thread before it leads to genocide, though. AH Mods, ahoy!!!

Would it then logically follow that making your comment about the coolness of "talking about nations' coolness" is also not cool.
(if you go by your principle of talking about coolness being uncool).

Those Upper Voltan's are pretty cool.

To avoid an imminent outbreak of genocide, maybe
declaring all nations as equally cool is the best thing.
    Sorry.

I guess that also means having to think of all nations as equal in every other (potentially sensitive) respect as well.

Christ, never thought nationality and its accepted differences was such a sacred cow here.

What's wrong with acknowledging relatively innocuous accepted difference between nationalities (and "cool" vs "uncool" FFS- it's not exactly inflammatory language).

But even if a genuine difference was confirmed to be less than complimentary, surely it doesn't mean it shouldn't be acknowledged.

Finally even IF a genuinely unsavoury trait was confirmed (something that is not really going to happen in this thread tbh and something which was definitely never intended) that obviously doesn't automatically justify feelings of hate/intolerance/
    genocide anyway toward said nationality.

    Christ.

Depends on how you define the word "cool".

Chilled? Relaxed? Good (but at what?)? Friendly? Dependant on popular culture?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Have you been there? Im not disputing your opinion, the only thing I say is that one is more inclined to notice the dìckheads in any crowd. If I saw two people in a pub, one sipping a drink quietly, the other screaming his head at a barman no guessing which one id remember.

I'd second how that other fellas opinion on Israelis. I'm still open to meeting some sound Israeli's but so far i have not. But i still won't generalize them all. I have met hundreds of them around the world as they all head off traveling when finished in the army.

One weird thing about them that i've experienced a lot is that i've been told to put my cross away because it offends them. But they say this to me while wearing a star of David????

Neil Young is Canadian. Leonard Cohen is Canadian.
    Dan Aykroyd?
    Jim Carrey?
    Michael J. Fox?
    Leslie Nielsen?
    William Shatner?
    Donald Sutherland?
    Chong?
    Mike Myers?
    Joni Mitchell?
    Rush?
    The Trailer park boys?
    ME?

Canada is as cool as the other side of the pillow.

I nearly spat coffee on my laptop in sheer rage when the OP mentioned Australia.
Australia is about as cool as yore ma. What a ****ing hole. Should be nuked off the map.
    I despise the place.

I really believe the Irish are the coolest.

    Or the Jamaicans.

We should have a state sponsored Irish-Jamaican interbreeding programme. Imagine; Pissed up, red haired rastas!

    Been there, done that...
By the third quarter of the seventeenth century, Montserrat had become the most Irish island in the West Indies. A 1678 census shows a vibrant community of almost 1,900 Irish men, women and children. Family names suggest that most came from County Cork, with smaller contingents from Clare, Donegal, Galway, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath and Wexford.
Numerically larger Irish colonies had already existed on other English islands. In 1669, for example, 8,000 Irish were reported in Barbados. Jamaica, captured from Spain in 1655, also attracted large numbers of Irish. But nowhere else did the Irish constitute a verifiable majority of the population.

Over in Montserrat they have red haired black people. And apparently the phrase "smashin" in Jamaica comes from the Gaeilge "Is maith sin"...

After seeing Knocked up and Juno, I would have to say that Canadia is the coolest country. And smartest and funniest. They're not boring, just cool.

Homer: So I realized that being with my family is more important
    than being cool.
Bart: Dad, what you just said was powerfully uncool.
Homer: You know what the song says: "It's hip to be square."
Lisa: That song is so lame.
Homer: So lame that it's... cool?
    Bart and Lisa: No.
    Marge: Am I cool, kids?
    Bart and Lisa: No.
Marge: Good. I'm glad. And that's what makes me cool—not caring, right?
    Bart and Lisa: No.
Marge: Well, how the hell do you be cool? I feel like we've tried
    everything here.
Homer: Wait, Marge. Maybe if you're truly cool, you don't need to
    be told you're cool.
    Bart: Well, sure you do.
Lisa: How else would you know?

Do people really rate Dutch people as being that "cool" (I'm not even sure what the definition of it is anymore, sign of my age).

Having been there five or six times now outside of Amsterdam is quite a conservative place, it's a stark contrast to Amsterdam and has a distinct lack of cafes and hookers! I'm talking about Utrecht, Zwolle, Arnhem, Apeldoorn and smaller places like Kampen.

I'd agree. Maybe people think the Dutch are cool because their laws are liberal. But Amsterdam has always been a port town, with most of the 'fun' being had by outsiders and not the Dutch themselves. The amount of money that city makes from tourism is ridiculous.

I have found the Dutch to be a closed-circle group, I think they are fairly protective of themselves and somewhat suspicious of outsiders... probably because there's such a high ratio of outsiders who make up what the country is.

    Swedes are far too try-hard!

A swede to my friend; "You don't smoke?"
    my friend; "Nah"
The swede; "Why not? It's cool"

Bit unfair on some of the Germans: most of them are great fun once you get them out. Difficult bit is getting some of them out.

They tend to be a bit on the 'divided' side. Either they're great on a night out or they're stereotypical German 'krauts'. There's no real middle ground with this lot.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

People who really think that they are cool are the least coolest people.

Italian men go around wearing gold/silver runners, extremely tight jeans, multicoloured leather jackets and wear sun glasses 365 days of the year (including in nite clubs).

They scream of uncool IMO are actually extremely tacky, vein & totally arrogant!

Luckily their food, country and women are great :D

The Finns are cool in every sense. They have such a relaxed social scene, none of that glassing a guy walking home from the pub and all that. They are lovely people, great liberal arts, great taste in music and its also very very cool in winter.

The Maltese. When I lived there I found them to be a very friendly and warm people, very friendly. I agree with Nightwish about their relaxed way of life similar to the Finns. However they can be aggressive when drunk (the men anyway), so be careful. A very proud people. They are also a very innocent people. That's one thing I miss very much, the innocence.

ye the Finns are cool enough, but what with the constant staring??
That freaked me out a bit, they just wouldnt stop staring at me all the time for the whole time I was there, so for that they get a bit of coolness taken off them....
