A lot of parents these days excercising and dieting their children, we'll see how it all turns out in a few years. How many beds are ther for eating disorders?

There are currently only three specialist beds for eating disorders (all based in Dublin) only about one-fifth of those admitted to adult psychiatric units and hospitals with eating disorder diagnoses receive specialist care.

    3?

I know there is an obesity issue these days with children but I remember in my day adults were warned against making comments about a childs size for fear of them developing an eating disorder. have we swung too far in the opposite direction?
No, watch any talent show to see how deluded kids can be. They must be told the truth.

I believe I read recently that the real answer is about 12 - for the entire country.

Presumably you could fit a good few of the patients into the one bed though.

I was walking through the park the other day with my brother and there was gangs of, young girls / teen girls everywhere and almost all of them were chubby, some of them real big..

He did make a good point that when we were growing up that just wasn't the case. The majority were average weight. We weren't sitting at home all day stuffing our faces playing bloody nintendo's or whatever.. We were out running around getting up to all sorts.

I can see obesity becoming a big problem.

i'm confused. Are you suggesting she made up PMSL? It's been around for years

Obesity getting to epic proportions, more people overweight than ever before and continuing to get worse, maybe someone needs to tell our children that they are fat and need to get out for some exercise.

No, I am not seriously suggesting that.

So does PMS mean Pissing Myself?

I always wondered why they were in such a bad mood.

I think it really depends on whether the kid is really fat or not... The granny may have had a point, and if the parents are saying nothing, it's probably good for the child in the long run to start taking note of the fact that they're overweight and should lower their cake intake.

There's a pretty big gap between obese and anorexic, and a person is perfectly capable of leaving one extreme without charging into the other. The cinema where I work is often a horrorshow of tubby little ****ers... "Large popcorn, large coke and a packet of maltesers please." Ugh.. There should be laws against me serving that to you. You're eight years old and probably can't sprint to the fire exit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Dinter

To be honest I think Gran had a point if the fire brigade was busily greasing the kid down and removing the changing room door to try and jemmy her out.

    Otherwise it's a bit mean.

Fat kids need tough love and an exercise bike.

There used to be this fatty in national school with us and his mother used to come to the school gate at lunch time and give him to fresh cream doughnuts with strawberry jam.

They looked so much nicer than our brown bread, butter and warm milk.

I suppose his mom felt sorry for him because he was mildly retarded.

    Hes now a taxi driver.

    Is this your story snyp?

Fat kids should be tied to a threadmill and made run until they become 'the norm'

Dont forget people, fat kids turn into fat adults and fat adults cause bad weather... tis a well know fact

Good on granny, she will always speak the truth.. grannys are not know for their tact.

Why my gran once told me I was too good looking for my own good
