In a word.......it most certainly would make me happy if I won the lotto cause then I'd be rich and wouldn't have to worry about bills and food and so on.

    Nice :D

    Money doesnt directly bring happiness

    But it can, indirectly

The more money you have, the more options you have. and the more time you have to do the things you want

    So i wanna be riiiiiccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Dunno, it'd make it much easier to do and buy the things you want. It doesn't guarantee anything else.

It wouldn't solve everything, but it would give a fair sized helping hand. I don't think the lotto means you can give up work anymore - Not unless it's 20 million+++, where you can rely on interest to give you a few grand a day, but if it cleared off debts, and sorts out bills and whatnot, a few decent holidays & bits and pieces, then it's all good :)

Tbh, I'd be the same as another poster, I'd try my best keep the news in my immediate family - Myself, mother & father.

The thing is that things you 'want' lose most of their value when they come very easily, and you enjoy them far less.

Well you just have to adjust your priorities than.
Rather than working hard to get money to buy stuff. You can work to achieve other goals. Be it critical acclaim, personal satisfaction, philantropy etc.

While I disagree that money brings happiness, it can certainly prevent a lot of unhappiness.

I saw a billboard for the lottery. It said, “Estimated lottery jackpot 55 million dollars.” I did not know that was estimated. That would suck if you won and they said, “Oh, we were off by two zeroes. We estimate that you are angry.” - Mitch Hedberg

Study after study has shown that one year after their win jackpot winners happiness levels return to what they were before the win. So, yes, it would make me happy but only for a while.

Winning the lottery would make me very happy, but that money wont last forever, i would work on making more money with the money i have.

And no i would not gamble it away...

It wouldn't make me happier but then that's just the type of person I am, it would make my life easier though.

It'd take off a lot of the pressures of life, and as such I'd be much happier for it.

And for those wo say money can't buy happiness, eBay proves you wrong. And you don't even need to win the lottery for it!

    Definately not.

Look at that woman who won the euromilions - she had to go into hiding.

i would like to win €20,000.00 and i would be very happy. i could pay off my credit card, some loans and get a new kitchen and hopefully have some money left for a little holiday

Money isnt what makes you happy, its the people around you who make you happy.

If you won the lotto, you would have a lot of belitters and scrangers hanging around

Then that would say very little for your ability to pick friends :D

I'd say a few months of elated joy and then you would go back to just normal feeling .. yet the pressure of mortgage career etc would be gone...
however you could start to worry about things you never had time to
worry about before .. like your health ...

Did she have to go into hiding ??

    why ?

criminal gangs after her for money ??

    or just scroungers ?

I'd be delighted! But I wouldn't tell anyone but my parents.

The money itself wouldn't bring me happiness, after all money in itself is a bit useless, but the things it can be traded for would bring immense joy!

I'm sure winning the lotto would allow me to pay my bills easier but the last time i checked bills were not the source of all unhappiness.

If I won the lotto, I wouldn't tell a soul, and I wouldn't spend much immediately. Maybe a modest house, in a good area, and a reasonable car. Keep a bit for day to day living, and put the rest in saving, until I know what to do with it.

You start living too large, and you'll just alienate your existing friends, and you won't know who your real friends are.

    nicely put.

if i was happy in my life but lacked money then yes, winning the lotto would make me happy.

for example, at 1 point in college i was broke, but was pretty happy in other areas of life - liked my course, loved my bf, saw my friends frequently, was generally having fun - life was good but poor. i remember thinking "God things would be perfect if i just had some bloody money".

but if youre upset about other things - sickness, deaths, loneliness, etc - money wont make you happy. it might make things EASIER, better hospital care for example, but not not necessarily happy.

so after my rambling - no it wouldnt make me happy. but i wouldnt say no to it :D

Yes it would make me happy.

As Earthhorse says, study after study shows that after 6 months or so your 'happiness' level will be the same as it was before - new things will cause you misery to replace the old influences or minor irrritants of today will become more major in the future.

That said, I still think a Lotto win would make my life better - I'd certainly be less stressed if I could afford to leave this job, pay off my loans, have some nice holidays etc. and I'd be inclined to set up my own business with the bulk of the cash - nothing overly risky or stressful just something to keep me and mine ticking along nicely.
