Money can't buy happiness, but poverty can't buy anything.

Yes. Winning the lotto would make me extremely happy.

Winning the Lotto in and of itself wouldn't make me happy, but it would sure
    (a) allow me to eliminate several causes of unhappiness in my life, and
    (b) create opportunities for fun / happiness.

In a word.......it most certainly would make me happy if I won the lotto cause then I'd be rich and wouldn't have to worry about bills and food and so on.

I'd like to win because then I could fund some of my larger plans for world domination.
But I don't need money to be happy.

And if i did win it I would never tell another living soul....to avoid messiness.

It would certainly enable one to buy away sadness....

It would definitely make me happy. But have no idea how long it would last.

We're not supposed to talk about the plan in public.

lol how could you hide a lotto win? Only way I see you getting away with that one is faking your own death and never see your family and friends again. The new house and car might give it away ;)

Yes it probably would, but I am very happy with my life anyway so I don't think it would change much, apart from a lot more traveling :)

Also 1M would be more than enough....no need for 10-15M.

I'd be happier if I won it than if I didn't win it, simple really.

I dont think money brings happiness, I have seen it destroy families who were perfectly happy beforehand..

I would like to have enough money to live comfortably / not have to work and not have to worry about bills etc..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

No chance...happiness from buying stuff and having money is obv shortlived. The mind has a way of making new problems. The striving to survive and the routine that comes with it are very important to mentle health, and if all of that is taken away suddenly you could go nutso very quickly. Buying stuff is over-rated imo.
EDIT: I bet there's a big division in age between the yes crew and no crew

eh yes... I don't believe in that "money doesn't buy happiness" crap. Of course it does. If you're rich you can choose to be poor; if you're poor you can't choose to be rich. 'Nuf said.

    Just in case.

    Money doesnt directly bring happiness

    But it can, indirectly

The more money you have, the more options you have. and the more time you have to do the things you want

    So i wanna be riiiiiccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

HELL YEAH! It would make me very much happy.
I'd love to get it all in E5 notes roll around in it! And have money fights with my familly :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

Dunno, it'd make it much easier to do and buy the things you want. It doesn't guarantee anything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭Mackman

Hell yeah it'd make me happy. It would mean i could do all the things i want to do but cant. How could that not make me happy?:)

It wouldn't solve everything, but it would give a fair sized helping hand. I don't think the lotto means you can give up work anymore - Not unless it's 20 million+++, where you can rely on interest to give you a few grand a day, but if it cleared off debts, and sorts out bills and whatnot, a few decent holidays & bits and pieces, then it's all good :)

Tbh, I'd be the same as another poster, I'd try my best keep the news in my immediate family - Myself, mother & father.

The thing is that things you 'want' lose most of their value when they come very easily, and you enjoy them far less.

Well you just have to adjust your priorities than.
Rather than working hard to get money to buy stuff. You can work to achieve other goals. Be it critical acclaim, personal satisfaction, philantropy etc.

While I disagree that money brings happiness, it can certainly prevent a lot of unhappiness.

I saw a billboard for the lottery. It said, “Estimated lottery jackpot 55 million dollars.” I did not know that was estimated. That would suck if you won and they said, “Oh, we were off by two zeroes. We estimate that you are angry.” - Mitch Hedberg

Study after study has shown that one year after their win jackpot winners happiness levels return to what they were before the win. So, yes, it would make me happy but only for a while.

Winning the lottery would make me very happy, but that money wont last forever, i would work on making more money with the money i have.

And no i would not gamble it away...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭EdgarAllenPoo

It wouldn't make me happier but then that's just the type of person I am, it would make my life easier though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

It'd take off a lot of the pressures of life, and as such I'd be much happier for it.

And for those wo say money can't buy happiness, eBay proves you wrong. And you don't even need to win the lottery for it!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 10,661 ✭✭✭✭John Mason

    Definately not.

Look at that woman who won the euromilions - she had to go into hiding.

i would like to win €20,000.00 and i would be very happy. i could pay off my credit card, some loans and get a new kitchen and hopefully have some money left for a little holiday

Money isnt what makes you happy, its the people around you who make you happy.

If you won the lotto, you would have a lot of belitters and scrangers hanging around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Then that would say very little for your ability to pick friends :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,788 ✭✭✭jackdaw

I'd say a few months of elated joy and then you would go back to just normal feeling .. yet the pressure of mortgage career etc would be gone...
however you could start to worry about things you never had time to
worry about before .. like your health ...
