    Armed garda patrols will be stepped up inside the financial heart of Dublin in a bid to prevent a fresh eruption of gangland violence on the streets of the capital.

    Senior officers fear retaliatory strikes in the inner city after the murder of a key associate of one of the gang leaders at the weekend.

    The chilling murder of 30-year-old Anthony Russell in a pub in Artane has prompted the garda authorities to review the high level of security that already exists on the streets leading into the international financial services centre (IFSC).

    I heard the cops have had a batch of such reported incidents recently. It seems to be raising the profile of those desperate on the breadline
