Yes, maybe I should dumb things down by going to "Sex (hur hur hur) and the city sux because nun of the burds have big boo-beeze."

    That better?

This is a conversation I had on the weekend... between myself and male... nearly word for word...

Him "So, your going to the flicks?"
    Me "Yeah"
Him "Going to see Sex and the City"
Me "NNOOOO Thats not out till the end of the month!"
Him "Im definitely not going to see that movie"
    Me "Why?"
Him "Coz its all just shopping... 2 hours of shopping"
Me "Uhhhh... yeah... pretty much got it in one"

MAYBE the reason they dont like it is coz they never watched it....
    Just a thought.....

A friend of mine has the box set and allows her 12 year old daughter to watch it.

I enjoy Sex & the City, But I dont think that I will be allowing my daughter to watch it at that age.

My Oh used to watch it more than me. And no he is not gay.

Nah, i've seen it, still didn't like it!!!

Maybe a lot of guys don't like it because they were made watch it?

Personally i cannot understand why they couldn't read a book. Then again, i don't have tv in my house.

It's quite clearly written with lead characters of 4 gay men, but the creators simply didn't think they'd get the greenlight in the US for a show like Queer as Folk, so they changed it.

    It's not TV, it's HBO!

Even HBO hasn't got the balls to be that upfront about acceptance of homosexuality.

I hate this show with a passion. The characters and plots are shallow and dull and have a complete lack of humour. Utter drivel. Its portrayal of men is woeful to an extent that I dont think weve seen the other way around for thirty years.
If there were a mans version it would consist of a group who have belching, farting & drinking competitions without a single joke all the while trying to decide whether pele, maradona or georgie best were the better footballer whilst inexplicably pulling hot girls despite their many and varied shortcomings who they then treat like crap.
With the exception of the one with brown hair they arent attractive so there isnt even that to make it easier to tolerate. The main one looks strangely like a horse (though lacking Mr. Ed's humour) while the promiscuous one looks like a washed up prostitute doing the morning shift in amsterdam.

You get more laughs from primetime, more eye candy from the 6 o'clock news, more intelligent conversation from blue peter and more drama from the evening weather report.

While no fan of desperate housewives it is at least watchable in the company of a girl you really really like. If your not that into her u probably wouldnt put up with that either but its only like a girl watching football if she doesnt like it, so bearable.

Angels in America and Six Feet Under?

I don't know why the show is supposedly held up as a beacon of womanhood and the exploration of female power. It's quite clearly written with lead characters of 4 gay men, but the creators simply didn't think they'd get the greenlight in the US for a show like Queer as Folk, so they changed it.

There was in fact a US version of Queer, and it was glossier, better looking and better dressed than the UK version. It was also considerable less explicit. The version of gay male sexuality that US mainstream networks particularly are comfortable with is the 'gay man who doesn't actually have sex' as in Will from Will and Grace. Grace by comparison is considerably more sexually active, and of course this is considerably more acceptable. I've always thought that Samantha in particular in Sex and the City is more realistically representative of young gay urbanites. Only made female and therefore safely sterotyped, like the Grace character.

The main problem is just the ****e the four of them talk when all of their problems would be solved if they just accepted this fact laid out in this clip...

No-one has asked the really important question (IMO) yet.

Why does it matter if men hate SATC?

Seriously, if men do hate it (and apparently not all of them do, anyway), then just accept it and let's all get on with our lives. If women could accept that men are, by definition, not women, this whole relating to each other business might be a tiny bit easier.

For the record, I did watch the programme for a while, but listening to privileged society "gals" constantly drone on about their life problems....eventually you realise life is too short. How terrible would it be if they had real problems?

My dad was the first person to recommend it to me he said I'd like it as he thought it was funny

I didn't start watching till season 4 then I was hooked

I actually did my final year sociology of the media dissertation on Sex & the City - to disprove the hypothesis that this programme is a positive, enlightened representation of women. I had no problem whatsoever finding 12,000 words worth of arguments to the contrary.

Relieved to learn there are women like yourself out there, Dudess. As hard as this is to believe, it's something I needed to check after seeing SATC listed as 'favorite TV show' on yet another female friend's Facebook page, which resulted in a Google search for "women who dislike sex and the city" leading me here.

I just hope there are more women like you who recognize how cynical this series is about male-female relationships, and see how this attitude has been spread among the show's viewers (I mean I used to believe that women - if it is possible to generalize - were a bit stronger and more rounded than men, until seeing how many aspired to be like these characters).

What's not to like about a materialistic slut who whines about her trivial little problems?

Men (me) hate it because it's all relationship drivel.
    Who did what with who?
    Are they on or off?
    Are they getting it on?
    What was she wearing?
    Blah, blah, blah.

This is my take on it:

Just because the publicity machine mandates that women must like it, doesn't mean they do.

TopGear is almost a religious event - every Sunday at 7pm. They're even making an Australian version but I'm wondering just who could possibly top Clarkson & Co.

TBH reading back some of the male opinions, I actually find myself in disagreement woth most on one point. I find sarah jessica parker attractive. Sure she's not obviously hollywood "pretty" but she's got an interesting face. The red head does nothing for me though or kim cattrall(so? I'm awful with names) for that matter. Spectacular body but nope. I'd prefer the other two.

An "interesting face" must remember that one next time im chatted up by a madra.

Well she has great hair, a sparkly oul smile on her and she is appealing, plus she's got a body that while on the thin side is arguably better than a good proportion of the women you see walking down the street. So yea if she liked the look of me and her husband didn't object and try to kill me(death by Ferris Bueller. Cooooool), I would defo be saying, "how you doin?"

Then again brad pitt I am not, so maybe your options are far more wide ranged than mine.

I love sex and the city, have all the episodes on dvd and loved the movie. My boyfriend is not crazy on it but he still watches it with me and came to see the movie with me.. hes great like that, very compromising!! I think that it doesnt show guys in the best light and thats why guys dont like it, also in this show alot of the guys are pretty much diposible and that doesnt shed the best light on men either. Still love it though :D

    Sugar-lump fetish, much?

SITC is the worst piece of vacuous American middle-class titalation around. It's the adult female equivalent of collecting My Little Ponies.

I keep hearing this "face like a horse" thing from both men and women, I just don't see it.
Sure I don't think she'd be winning any beauty contests, but I fail to see elongated incisors or skull, nor do her ears stick out of the top of her head as opposed to the sides, so why is she always compared to a horse and not some other aesthetically unappealing animal?
