I don't know what exactly you consider hard or soft
I always thought soft porn was the kind of thing you might see late at night on Bravo and hard-core was porn with lots of explicit close-ups of vaginas, cocks and penetration. What you're calling hard core seems to be more like extreme niche porn to appeal to violent sadists, paedophiles and other vermin.

ted bundy went around doing interviews from prison saying porn made him rape and kill a bunch of women. but then theres the argument that he was just making excuses, but the counter argument that he was on death row anyway, so blaming porn wasn't going to help him.
if I recall correctly, bundys big ''pr0n made me do it'' speech was during his interview with James Dobson.

also, the type of pr0n he was perusing was seemingly bondage/kidnapping comics, very far removed from the softcore, or even hardcore stuff of today.

It is a bit idiotic TBH.

The internet is full of hardcore porn due to demand, it is not a minority pursuit, rape is a minority pursuit, and there is no corrolation between the two, bar the inverse one mentioned, ffs, we should be taught porn in secondary school.

Christ its the perfect excuse if you're caught watching porn-incase you become a rapist.
Well done OP, You've done a great deal of men a big favor!

What about the hundreds of millions of men who look at hardcore porn?

I'm sorry, but one example of someone who looked at porn and killed people doesn't cut it with me. Using your logic, I could connect every single thing in the world to an act of murder.

    Honestly, you're talking ****e.

I apologise if I'm being a bit aggressive, but the backwards Irish attitude to porn really annoys me. There is nothing wrong with nudity, sex and being aroused. Yes, the odd mentaller might see a violent hollywood movie or read a violent book or watch some violent porn and get some ideas in his head, but he is MENTALLY ILL.

    / ditches nice image

Hold on a minute for fu*k sake! First of all, actually read what I typed. I said more than once that I thought that men watching porn was fine. It was the degradation scenes that I mentioned (over a long period of time) that was an issue.

Don't address me in that manner again. You're rude and it's uncalled for. I don't think it was an Irish guy who wrote the psychology text books I'm reading from either so that proves you and your intolerance to the 'Irish attitude' to be nothing more than repressed aggression. Been a while since we watched the old porn has it? Slightly frustrated are we?

None of the other men took offence to it FFS!

    Exactly.

Triple upside-down interracial BBW POV watersports/bukkake=softcore? lol

    I agree.

I think the author of MizzLolly's psychology textbook has some issues with porn.

/Glad society's heading forwards, not backwards, when it comes to porn

Some doctors have recomended porn to some couples who have difficultys in the bedroom although not sure if they recomended soft or hard porn . Anybody Remember those educational sex videos that were aimed at (mainly) married couples ? They were being discussed a lot on daytime tv shows pre internet days .

I did. You said erotica was acceptable, but porn, especially hardcore porn, was mostly about rape and degradation.

You cannot tar an entire industry/topic like that.

Don't be sad. My issue is with you claiming you're coming from an educated background (the psychology perspective) and then talking complete and utter nonsense.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about, so please do not try to claim you do.

If the research amounts to what the OP summarised, then it's the results that are bullsh!t

BTW, did anybody used to watch Bullsh!t on YouTube? A user called 'something something' madre had them all online, but was forced to take them down :(

"Extreme" porn is now an offence similar to child porn.

Extreme is defined as grossly offensive to an average person, ok game over.

If you click on a link to a legal website, legally hosted etc. where they have simulated rape, torture and bondage, performed by willing participants etc., you can be convicted.

If I watch a DP movie, is that grossly offensive?

What about regular porn, some people may be offended by that also?

    That's it convict me.

Now thank fcuk, my liberty does not rely on such vague terms, the bollock bashing scene in casino royale would count if it weren't daniel craig, but some other leather clad gimp on a website would be "extreme".

    Ireland, progressive?

Not as bad as the UK at least.

You are obnoxious and rude. I never even said anything BAD!! FFS ... You're the only one who expressed a problem with it.

Right, so your opinion is based on something someone told you? FFS. Will you go look at porn and see what it's all about, and then come back to us?

Seriously, it's not a good idea to make such strong statements (porn is mostly rape and degradation, etc.) about something you admittedly know nothing about.

is the guy who watches porn more likely to rape or is the guy who's more likely to rape the guy who watches porn?

is the guy who watches porn more likely to rape or is the guy who's more likely to rape the guy who watches porn?

Evidence suggests the person who has an outlet for his urges, whether it's porn or prostitution or a sexual partner, is less likely to commit sexual assault.

A very crude example of this is the problem we have had with priests and child abuse.

WTF? Are you lost or something? MizzLolly's getting a good spanking here and she deserves it.

Now, everyone put away the psychology text books and go get a life. And if you can't do that, look at some internet pr0n. You know you want to....

    Rape? No, probably not.

However, teh pr0ns might still proliferate the treatment of women as passive, weak, dehumanised and subordinate objects in sexual situations. Which is not so good.

Also, I'd be wary of Penn and Teller. Funny guys, but they have a very doctrinaire political and ideological agenda.

The states in America with the most internet access had the lowest counts of rape
The states that had the least internet access had the highest counts of rape.

Admittedly they agreed that it could be just a coincidence and there might be no connection whatsoever.
Correlation is not necessarily causation (be it a positive or negative correlation). You could have a spurious relationship between porn watching (independent variable) and rape count (dependent variable)? For example, the press in the States often cites the correlation between smoking grass and hard drug use. I can offer a stronger correlation between drinking milk and hard drug use, but it makes no sense!
