To be fair, waay more women than men train as primary school teachers. And many many national schools are the same as the one your ex works in. Its not necessarily a plan...

That's undeniably true but when she got the job, she recomended a friend of hers who's a man and the principal told her that they dont have men in the school.

    reckon it's pretty common.

I think in Ireland its definitely the case that generally only woman are hired for jobs like coffee shops and waiting tables, the only exception to that is if you're more flamboyant than the average. The reverse could definitely be said for the construction industry. I think its probably just not talked about openly and when its said its kinda shocking.

I've been getting that a lot lately, I'm more experienced than most graduates but still in every interview I can answer every question, pass every test but every single interview I've done in the last 2 months (and there's been lots) all that's ever said is "She knew her stuff, the interview went great but we just don't think she'll fit in with our team" it's the usual "We don't want to hire a transsexual" crap, half the time it's a joke considering I generally know more than the person interviewing me, one guy asked me what Winrunner was because he'd never heard of it and this was for an automation job (I won't say where but needless to say I wouldn't apply again)

Not at all. I merely threw out a possibility that you may not have considered in light of your 'better than everyone' attitude in your post. Just because you're qualified for a job doesn't necessarily entitle you to get it. You may have slipped up in other areas.

    Yours was just outright abuse.

and in the same vein I threw out the possibility that you're all asswipe's, I never said it was true, but it is a possibility, you are still online entertainment though...

I've seen that happen on buses all the time when we have probably the only female bus driver.

Glad to hear it, hope they're the type of comeback that leaves the lad red faced with embaressment.

OP, that is a bit mad alright, if it were a woman refused the job there'd be all out war!
Indeed, there was an article in the Sunday Times magazine about how in Norway they have it as law that companies must have 40% female board of directors, no mention of a 40% male quota. And lets face it, some industries women just don't bother with for whatever reason, others men don't bother with.
Could you imagine if building contractors were told they had to have 40% of their foremen female or face charges? Or if Petermarks were told they had to have 40% of their managers male or face charges? It'd be a case of rush hiring the first person of the correct gender regardless of how unsuitable they were for the position. Then you'd have someone unsuited, probably unskilled and unmotivated (bumped up to the top of the ladder just for their gender and knowing they're the only thing keeping the company from a lawsuit, who would feel motivated?). How on Earth is that supposed to discourage discrimination, it'd only create headlines of how males are lazy slackers or females are clueless layabouts and folks would be even more resistant to equality.
If nothing else such quotas need to take into account the base gender split within the industry the company operates, e.g. most bus drivers are male so you'd expect a mostly male management, most nurses are female => mostly female management, most engineers = male => mostly male management, most forensic anthropologists = female => mostly female management, etc....
i.e. something like 40% x number of the gender in the industry/total number in the industry = the quota for how much of management should be of that gender.

There's a big difference between being "one of the lads" and being a mature and sensible individual. At times she'll ruin the fun on the lads too, because that is what is required of her as a moderator. I highly doubt she has anything personal against you, but your stance on the forums does seem a bit offensive while being in turn quick to take offense. Not everything is about what you are, sometimes it's just about who you are.

I thought the OP might have been in Simon's Place in the Georges Arcade there but there's no Asian women working there. However Simon only seems to hire Spanish women to work there as far as I can see, been going in there for nearly three years and there's never been a bloke working there apart from him, and 95% of the women I've seen working there are Spanish or have Spanish as their first language at the very least.

OP, thats just part of a bigger trend of underhanded sexism thats creeping in today.

    Café that only hires women
Insurance companies that only insure women

Nothing like this for men, if we had an insurance company that only insured men, it'd be sued in a second! Same for a Café, if a manager or whatever said to a woman that she wouldn't be hired based on her sex, she'd sue their ass for sexual discrimination!!

I am a firm believer in EQUALITY and sometimes it just isn't there and the law seems to be allowing it 100%
