I loved every second of it, brilliant set-up for the finale. They filled in loads of little details, lots to think about. It may alienate the more casual viewer however and the jump-the-shark brigade will be out in force but this is Lost at it's best imo.

This episode is definitely going to polarise opinion. Many will complain about that old chestnut "asking more questions than it answers" etc, and some might feel the cabin scene is a cop-out. As LOST moves along it's losing more and more casual viewers, to the extent that by next season and beyond, i doubt there will be a "casual viewer" base.

However, i'm with you SP, thought it was the perfect set-up for the Finale and it raised a lot of interesting questions. So we now know who killed the doc, that scene in itself raises a lot of questions. Keamys gun jamming goes back to Mr. Friendly assertion that Michael cant be killed. Claire in the cabin with Christian!!!! Horace? Who was the "Orderly" in the hospital, looks like he will have a role to play in the Finale/Season 5. Richard Alpert appearing in Lockes backstory - i wonder why he was angered by Locke choosing the knife? Again , lack of Sawyer was a minus, and the Beach cameo was pointless.

Strange episode, thought it was going nowhere for ages, flashbacls a bit meh on the whole, but picked up for the second half.

Just relating to the orderly in Locke's hospital, that was Matthew Abaddon, earlier in the season seen quizzing Hurley in the mental asylum, and briefing Naomi on her mission to the island.

The scene with Richard was pretty odd, I thought they could have let it tell us more though. We've been through Locke's whole special, not special, special thing already.

Liked the kind of odd relationship developing between Hurley and Ben, I wonder if it will come to much or anything.

The cabin scene was another of those classic Lost tantalise-but-don'tgive-information scenes. Claire seemed...different, it was strange. Christian was enigmatic as usual, but certainly didn't seem very, well, dead. And moving the island? Urgh, that was said ages ago and I kind of hoped it wasn't ever going to be true, but seems it is! Anyway, hope Sayid gets back before it moves! And is that possibly why the Oceanic 6 have been so hesitant in trying to get any sort of rescue for the rest? Could it be they have no idea where the island is any more?

I guess this was a pretty decent set-up episode, how many are left?

Couple of other things, does anyone else think Desmond will escape with the others as an "unofficial" addition to the Oceanic 6? He'll be needed in the off-island plot with Ben/Widmore/Penelope, and his story arc on the island has kind of ended. And what about Michael too? He probably would just want to disappear upon escaping though.

What's on Keamy's arm? It looks like a remote control for something. Did anyone notice the dharma symbol on the "secondary protocol" too? Could it have something to do with the device? He said he was going to "torch the island", maybe the secondary protocol was the location of something like the poison gas Charlotte and Faraday went after earlier?

    A good 7/10 episode I think

Alpert would appear to be like the Panchen Lama. The Panchen Lama is the the second most important monk in Tibetan Buddhism. And when the Dalai Lama dies it's the Panchen Lama's job to find his new incarnation. When he does, he tests the child by showing him the possessions of previous Dalai Lamas. Damon hinted that Alpert played this role last season.

Part 1 of the finale is next week. Second part is 2 hours long and airs 2 weeks later. So 3 hours left. But this is the last regular episode.

Ah I knew it, for some reason I couldn't place him even though we've seen him twice this season.

Phew. I thought next week was the finale, which would leave a hell of a lot to wrap up.

Good episode, asked a lot of questions. How did Richard look pretty much the same age when he was visiting Locke as a child? What was Kimi being rigged up with, that device on his arm? "Secondary Protocal?" What was going on with Claire? She acted different, as if she'd been brainwashed.

Season 4 continues to impress, hopefully the finale will be something spectacular.

Does anyone else think Claire is dead? She acted strangely and Christian is dead. It explains why she isn't one of the Oceanic 6. Locke can see Christian because he's chosen, and that's why he can see Claire too maybe.

By the way, LOVED Christian being in this episode! He's one of my favourite cast members. I love every scene with him in it. But it begs the question, is he a ghost or some kind or reanimated body? His actual body went missing after the crash, but now Jack, Locke and Claire have seen him.

I enjoyed this episode overall. I'd hoped for a little more, but I'm still happy. Great to see Desmond back too, he's so hot.

great episode, most of my points where made above.

one thing that kind of annoyed me was when the captain asked what was on martin's arm it panned to it and you can quite clearly see it's one of these

    http://www.korg.com/gear/enlarge_product.asp?prid=GA30

wtf is kemmy going to do with a guitar/bass tuner strapped to his arm?

he knows about charlies guitar and thinks it might be out of tune?

Sure when Miles was in the house in LA exorcising the ghost the device he had was a modified iron with some wheel thing in it.

Perhaps the prop department are on strike like the writers and we just don't hear about it:pac:

Interesting episode, again with so many questions and few answers. Abbadon and Richard in Locke's flashback? Move the island? Christian and Claire in the cabin?

    gah...too much!!

meh, it was one of those show a lot, answer fuck all.

The history of Locke / Flashbacks:
    Alpert hasn't aged
Young John drawing pictures of Cyberos
The test with the items screamed reincarnation to me
John being a scientist and invited to Portland
Abaddon the orderly made sure John got on the plane

    So they've been stalking John...

    On the island:
The dream was weird. Ben used to have dreams. The island has picked Locke.
    Do I care, not really.
The cabin was a let down not that I was expecting much.
Claire seems on the happy pills or knows something we don't.
Moving the island sounds cool. (Krull anyone)

    The freighter:
The doctor is still alive *shock*... NOT
    Michael can't die *yawn*
The Dharma directive booklet looked interesting
The thing on Keamy's arm looks like a dead man switch / trigger.
Sayid looked suitably heroic heading back to the island, does it mean Des will get off the island secretly?
It was obvious the Doctor was a gonner at the end but pity about the captain.
The beach dudes are gonna head towards the mercs - lol

Hopefully it has set up two cracking eps.

    Give it a 6.

Great episode in my opinion. It is obvious some people are under the opinion that we should get a great big answer every episode. I couldn't give a toss whether we get loads of info or not.
Loved the scene between Ben and Hurley, where no words were spoken. Also when Locke asked Ben where to go next and Ben said he was following Hurley - "I'm not even in front".
Always good to see Alpert, Abaddon and Christian.
Claire has a new storyline that doesn't involve Turniphead or the Dead Hobbit - yay!
Can't believe Keamy killed the Captain - I was just beginning to like the Captain.
I knew we'd see the Doc again, but it was nice to see why he died.
I also loved the return of the adventure music, that they used when Sayid was leaving on the raft. Haven't heard that in awhile. Love that tune.

    Bring on the finale.

I thought it was great after last week's blip (IMHO).

John's flashback scenes were good - the constant watching by Alpert/Mittelos/Abbadon. The picture of the smoke monster was creepy! Alpert appearing young was no surprise, as he was the same when John met him as a child on the island last season. Given that Abbadon coerced John to going on the walkabout, are we going to see Mittelos gradually get each of the islanders on the plane.

Claire definitely seemed different, like she was in on something. She had that 'Mean Girls' curl to her lip. I don't think she is dead, otherwise the human body would have been there when Sawyer and Miles woke up.

I thought that Frank's obvious course of action would have been to miss the island. Let's face it they are going to kill him eventually when the mission is completed. But I guess he is a survivor and sending that sat phone to the beach crew may be part of his plan. I hope he survives. Poor doc and poor captain!

Roll on part 1 of the finale.

That was 1 weird ass episode but I enjoyed it. I always like the mythology episodes and this was jam packed full of it

A very nice setup episode for the finale.

I reckon Claire is dead, she definately looked different and it would seem to make the most sense in the context of the scene.

Lockes flashback also begs the question about 815. Was that crash meant to happen, was everyone on board destined to be on the island or did the crash happen to get Locke to the island and everyone was irrelevant?

I lived the scene with Ben and Hurley. I can see it being a nod to some film or tv show, anyone hazard a guess of what?

As for moving the island, eh what. I really have no idea what that could mean or entail.

Still I enjoyed it, much better then last weeks although in a Jack vs Locke flash that is always a no contest.

    Give it 8.5/10

Any thoughts on Abaddon? From the beginning I always thought he was some sort of higher power. I find it hard to believe he works for Widmore. Maybe it's the other way around and Widmore works for him. Is he a force for good or evil? I mean he guides Locke to the island which is good but his name (a biblical reference to the Angel of the Abyss; also Greek for "the destroyer") and the way he asks Locke for a favour makes me think otherwise. There's a touch of Randall Flagg about him as well. Intriguing character.

I loved the scene in the cabin with Christian (finally!!) and Claire. Very Black Lodge-like. I don't care for the Claire-is-dead theory that's floating around. Hopefully we'll get more on what happened to her before the end of the season.

The scenes on the freighter were great. Kevin Durand is fantastic as Keamy. The writers were very smart to expand his character's role.

I was kind glad to see the Captain go tbh. Didn't care for his brand of spoon-fed answers.

I loved this episode. I think what made this episode was the final scene in the cabin... it was such a standard 'Lost' feck-with-your-head moment. As there's a few things that were confirmed and intriguing about it.
    • Claire was as relaxed as can be.. she seemed almost sedated in her mannerism. She didn't seem real. Whether we can think of her as dead or not (see two points down) is still up in the air but she was not the same Claire. Claire would NEVER go anywhere without Aaron super-glued to her. Very odd but wholeheartedly intriguing appearance!
    • The figure in the chair is now confirmed as Christian. Christian's dialogue was vague and open-ended as feck. But his appearance was enough. And if he is indeed alive.. might explain why Jack has seen him in his flashforwards. Oh, and did anyone hope John would ask him for his surname - "Christian what...?" :D
    • Onto the "are-they-dead-or-alive" argument, there's very little evidence to prove either is true. But what I will bring attention to is the fact that Claire was far from herself and that Locke was in the cabin ON HIS OWN so what he saw may have been another vision / dream (like when he saw Percy from 'The Green Mile'.... whoops, i mean Horace).
The other BIG moment was the "test" by Richard to a young Locke... when I was watching it.. all I could think of was symbolism. Such as the baseball mitt symbolising a typical childhood (and by Locke choosing that, it would signify he wanted a normal childhood and not spend his time in this "special school"). The knife symbolising the warrior in Locke.. a more violent side of Locke that Richard did not want. The comic book told us of a strange land - obvious enough reference. The compass symbolising a need for exploration / walkabout. But the vial of sand washed over me to be honest (maybe a reference to Locke's fascination with nature, the island and earth). Best I could do interpreting that scene when I was watching.

The scenes on the freighter and beach I could have done without.. Locke, Ben and Hurley in the jungle / cabin were the heart and soul of the episode. The flashbacks were interesting. But Richard's "test" (as debated above) and the opening scene were highlights. Loved the randomness of the opening scene, which is something Lost is doing more and more this season especially - misleading the viewer in the opening of the episode and leading them along towards a revelation.

Loved this episode.. better than last week and working it's way nicely towards being the finest season since season 1.

Keep it up Damon and Carlton.. and roll on the 3 part finale! :D

I thought it was very good... compared to some of the tripe Lost has churned out in previous seasons this one is really on a roll. I personally liked the John Locke flashbacks as it shows that this whole thing goes back a lot further than the island.

I also loved the moment between Hurley and Ben on the log, don't know why but it made me laugh.

Heres a question though, if locke wanted to have psychotropic dreams why doesn't he carry around that fruit he gave to Boon in season 1?

im loving this season but the supernatural surreal stuff like moving the island etc is kinda getting a bit much... Dealing with the time was bad enough! Even some other stuff but last couple of eps have had stuff that's kinda made me sigh...

Although there is some very good scenes still. Always wanting to know what happens next and so much going on. Hopefully the "crap" stuff wont hinder some very excellent writing.

Getting back to this weeks episode, forgot to say, so its pretty much proven now, the barrier between the island and the real world can transport matter both back and forwards in time, shown by the fact the doctors body traveled back in time and the capsule launched at the island traveled forwards in time.

Great episode. Very Lost-ish, except for the beach scene - meh. Shame about the captain, but Frank and Keamy are coming along nicely as characters.

Have I got a clue what's happening? No.
Does that matter? Feck no, it's great anyway.

    Move the island. Yay!

I think maybe the knife is one of Jacobs belongings and Locke picking the knife means he is a reincarnation of Jacob. I think Richard finds that impossible to believe.
Also i think instead of moving the island to a different place they are going to move it to a different time.

Really enjoyed this episode. I'd rate it a 9. As mentioned already if you're the type that demands answers from the show you might not like it but personally I like the mystery and this episode was very mysterious!

I think the scene with Locke and Richard was Richard's way of finding out if Locke was Jacob. The book I did not recognise but perhaps it's regarded as the book of Jacob and by Locke picking the knife, in Richard's eyes he is not in fact Jacob.

The Claire/Christian bit has me really stumped. Very interesting though.

I do think the theme of time travel will continue to play a part and I'm guessing this will play a part in how Locke is meant to 'move the island'. Not physically move it but move it to another timeline. I reckon that might explain why Horace was shown chopping the tree down and then within moments the tree was restored and Horace was again seen chopping it. I think that symbolises that the island can be protected by moving it through time. No idea how this will be accomplished though. So head-wrecking but I love it. :D

Locke and Christian are at least the same age, with at most a couple of years between them.

Did anyone else have a little lol at teenage John declaring "I like boxing!" and adult John working in a box factory? No? Just me?...
