Rugby is actually a considerably less homophobic sport than football.

    Rugby is very ghey.
    There, I've said it.

Heh, I get dragged into a thread about ghey footballers.

Second row actually, preferably no. 5 and I got to stick my head between the prop and hooker's arses. Nice.

This is a stupid thread, imo. Who fcukin cares what they are in their private lives, as long as they can play footie.

to be honest, i think that 99% of ppl dont care what the sexuality of a sports person- or any person for that matter is.

I certainly dont care. Id have bo problems playing football rugby or any sport with a gay person. I have 2 friends that are gay. They are not my "gay friends" they are just "friends".. as is the same with footballers, they're not "gay footballers" they are just footballers.

I'd agree more with these sentiments. A person's sexuality should not never be viewed as being of greater importance to their skill as a sports man/woman (I mean this from the perspective of a fan. Obviously it'll be important to the individual player him/herself.)

Well if I was a gay professional footballer I wouldn't come out.

The abuse some players get from the terraces can be pretty extreme, look at Ashley Cole at the moment (in fairness he's a ponce and deserves it) and Beckham in the 98/99 season after gettin sent off in the WC the previous summer.

As for who is and is not ghey

    Cannavaro isn't http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabio_Cannavaro
    De Rossi isn't http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniele_De_Rossi
John O' Shea still unproven but most people reckon he isn't
    Sol Campbell isn't

James McFadden is rumoured to be ghey along with Matt Taylor.

mcfadden had a baby recently that ws sick & he dedicated a goal to the hospital staff

as i said before it doesnt matter if a player is gay or not but is it homophobic saying a footballer is gay - i think there is a hint of it

I'm sure I once heard Andy Gray say, "Scholes loves it when Rooney comes inside him".

That would mean they would both be ghey fellows.

    Didn't know that about McFadden.

Wouldn't describe myself as homophobic and I don't know how saying someone is gay is homophobic - that's like accusing somebody who said a black guy is black is racist. Only putting up rumours which most soccer fans have heard a hundred times before anyway.

    Rumours all the same.
I gave the thread a decent chance, but it's going nowhere fast. We're not here to discuss the personal lives of footballers - that's for the red tops and bar flies (We're not worthy) - and I sincerely doubt that any of you are in an authoritive position to declare any one of them as a definite homosexual (Very few of you also post in LGB. I checked.)
