    Maura,
    yep 440 for C14 - 220 each side of the 50/50

I had heard from quite a reliable source that there were in excess of 9000 applications for C14.

    yee-ikes:eek:

Thats a lot of people to whittle away!!!

Yep it sure is! Im sure the majority of the potential May and August 08 intake candidates will have reapplied as well, before they get word of getting in. So that should filter a few out

    Congrats to those above folks.

Well I was wondering, is there a trend that the members of this forum thread are generally successful in joining psni?

And also, I was wondering if it is the case, that the Catholic community, or those who adopt that title (since let's be honest how many of them are practising Catholic? But I digress...) have wholeheartedly embraced the new PSNI? I am Catholic myself and was wondering. I don't get out much (lol) and I don't talk about it to many people, so I have no way of knowing. I look forward to your comments/views/factoids.

I sure hope you're not Catholic! Four years???

I'll be at the test in May some time, but I have more or less given up on the idea of joining PSNI, because of mental problems!!! Namely OCD and it's aggravation by police work. I know I'd have made a good traffic cop otherwise, but maybe it's just not meant to be. It's so darned competitive at every stage, especially this one, so I wish you all the best of luck with it.

And is there anyone out there  doing their IST on the 12th of May?

I was thinking the same as your about the trend! but i think what is more likely is that the applicants currently posting are doing so because they are frustrated/in final stages of recruitment. If you look at the posts from a year ago at the beginning of the campaign, different posters! - alot have dissapeared and not posted since . Unfortunately. As i know the ongoing success of the current posters gives us faith and hope!

What gets me aobut it is the way the system seems to play with people, leading them along a merry dance over the best part of a year, unlike most jobs where u do an application form, attend interview and find out within a fairly short period. It's a bit of a joke really. Guess they know how desperate some people are for this job and maybe milk it.

Appreciate any views on the topics in my previous post from anyone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 246 ✭✭Maura2145

Hmmm. I would say to filter through 10,000 or so applicants, is never gona be a short process. 10,000 - 240 is quite a cut and probably takes so many stages to do this. But i do agree that a year is a very long time.
I guess to a certain extent a year long process, works well with consistant and regular ongoing intakes

Did you say you were going ahead with the campaign Ultravid? have you got advice about how much you would be restricted?

All the questions were exactly the same as last year so i guess that helped. Still found the timing tight, though i did get finished this time. Im alot more confident this time. I still struggled with some of part B

I wish these comments about the religon of candidates would stop. This is not the place to discuss it.

The 50/50 is part of current recruitment process,it wont be forever. So get over it please. I personally will be glad so that the whinners and whingers wont be able to use it as shield to hide their own failures.

Yes most the comments are worded very nicely......but this underlying continual sniping about future potential colleagues is bloody depressing.:(

Stating it on here robotically every week wont change the policy. If your good enough you will get in eventually.

I think the moderators should censure anymore posts referring to RELIGON.....im sick of it and so are most right minded individuals.

This board is a great source of help to candidates, lets keep personal feelings out if it. After all isnt that one of the key skills we will all have to learn as police officers ?

So good luck to EVERYBODY regardless of religon, sexual orientation, age, race or (planet except Vulcans :D).

Thank god for diversity training, it appears to be still needed.

    Hi Folks,

Well I had my IST today. Like others have said it was the EXACT same paper as the last campaign (minus the number plate part). I must say I did find it difficult, in particular part B. I didn't make it past the IST las time so I'll be totally gutted if its the same this time round...you know when you REALLY want something! Well here's hoping! Good luck to everyone else sitting the IST soon!

I think that maybe not all the posters have been following the forum the whole way through, so repetition is possibly not applicable to all.

I agree with you to a certain extent Eddzy, and diversity is important. but i must say nothing bad enough to warrant censorship seems appropriate here. Just comments on an aspect of the recruitment process, like any other aspect. Sensitivity on the subject is also not necassarily a great thing. But i understand what your saying

what sort of weapons fo the psni carry around them? are there any officers patrolling on bicycles yet or is that too risky yet? cant imagine them strolling around the Bog yet! While training are they given the mechanics of guns etc. I mean do they have to understand the physics of ballistics etc. Do officers regular practice to keep a good aim? How many are actual coppers here? Cheers guys and gals

Is there any female newbies heading for the May intake besides myself?? :)

    Please let me know!

You talk about feelings being left out of it and then use a red-faced angry smilie. You also insult me by implying that I am a whinger, that I am sniping other potential candidates, and also suggest I am hiding my failures, none of which is true. Finally, you imply I need diversity training, when your attitude would make me wonder who needs the diversity training. I think the only one causing offence here is you.

If this isn't the place to discuss it, where is? I thought this was a discussion forum.

I am a Catholic myself so supposedly would benefit from the 50-50 recruitment factor. I am genuinely interested in the question I posted, which you got so irate about. Your response to that is rather telling. I am also interested in the Police as a possible career, and I am interested in how the new police is being embraced by the Catholic/Nationalist community. These are all genuine concerns and most of the posters here can appreciate this I am sure. I don't talk to many people about the PSNI, as I am sure you can appreciate why. An online forum such as this is a relatively safe way to discuss these things, though not an excuse to insult or belittle others, neither of which I did in any of my posts. If I did, please point it out for me.

Religion is not a dirty word, religion is not the source of all the world's problems, and religion is not a private affair to be kept hidden and denied in the workplace, be that PSNI or elsewhere.

But anyway, I found your post rather offensive and mean-spirited, and I hope think more carefully in future about what you say.

To Maura: I am going to go ahead and do the test, as much for the experience as anything else. But due to my personal 'failure', according to edzzy, I don't think police work is for me. Religion, incidentally, had nothing to do with it.

Having said that, if I did well, I never know where it might take me. But even so, I must give my health priority over the job.

@edzzy: Mate you need to take a deep breath. It seems that you're letting this get to you.

This is an internet forum that is monitored very closely and carefully by all moderators. I am a serving officer in the PSNI and I personally do not see any point censoring posts regarding people commenting on their community background, unless they are deliberately trollsome and posted to provoke a reaction.

Among the "key skills" you will learn as a police officer is not to say things you can't back up with hard evidence - how do you know "most right minded individuals" agree with your opinion? I don't. Am I not "right minded"?

I must be honest with you. Your post has a slightly haughty tone to it that surprised even me when I look at what sparked your reaction in the first place.

    I wish you well.

    hi,

just wondering if anyone is in the know about the SRN; i'm in the intake for May 25 and the SRN is May 12,i can't make this night as i have an exam the next morning the whole way in scotland.is it significant to miss this or will i simply be lacking the information that the other recruits get. Also, do you know if it is possible to attain all the information that the other recruits get on the SRN?

ps. doing an essay right now on cop culture, bloody hell really makes you wonder and ask about your role, anyone really wanting to gain some information on the police from an academic standpoint it is very informative to read about the kind of 'behind the scenes' role the police force holds.

    cheers for any replies.

IST this morning, disaster, have certainly failed. First part okay, second part a stinker. Timing okay, had stopwatch!

So that, coupled with the Scousers pathetic display last night against Chelsea has put me in bad form LOL

    Pub 2nite methinks!

Anyway, good luck to everyone still to take it, I was at Stranmillis this morning and the hall was full so approx 200 there or therabouts.

    Next year for me then!:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Friend of mine did the test with me for the first time, found section A tough and B very hard. He says he has definitely failed but I think the pass is 50 /78, so keep the chin up until you hear any word.

    Hey mrsgenehunt
don't give up yet!! From my experience you always feel you do worse in these types of things than you actually do! Plus if your timing was ok then I'd say you've done well!!!! Did you do much practice beforehand?
