don't give up yet!! From my experience you always feel you do worse in these types of things than you actually do! Plus if your timing was ok then I'd say you've done well!!!! Did you do much practice beforehand?

I did practice a fair bit, but still thought the data part was harder than anything I had practiced.

Bit miffed that its the same test that was set last year, obviously those who sat it last year have the advantage. Feel a strongly worded letter to Consensia comng on!!!

I know that I have failed but its made me even more determined to come back next year with all guns blazing. This is what I want to do, I'm not going to give up trying until I get in!!:D

I dont think they have any real advantage, other than having experience of the style of questions and the time limits.

I dont think people who did it last year were able to remember the answers or anything. I did it last year, alot of it was similar but I still found it just as tough as last time.

Don't count yourself out yet until you get the results!

Def the advantage of knowing the sorts of questions helped. Thought the first part went okay but went down the slippery slope in part b!! Well, we'll wait and see but expecting a very thin envelope thru the letterbox in the next wee while. But will be back, Goonies never say Die! :D

Yes well thats to be expected. Most people who get into the job have to do the test a few times. If you have failed, then next time round you will be at an advantage.

IST this morning, disaster, have certainly failed. First part okay, second part a stinker. Timing okay, had stopwatch!

So that, coupled with the Scousers pathetic display last night against Chelsea has put me in bad form LOL

    Pub 2nite methinks!

Anyway, good luck to everyone still to take it, I was at Stranmillis this morning and the hall was full so approx 200 there or therabouts.

    Next year for me then!:(

honestly don't worry too much about it,when i done my IST i went in thinking,i'll pass this easy the examples on the internet were simple etc., i remember coming out of the test thinking i done terrible,i really didnt think i had passed then two weeks later i got the letter back saying i had passed, remember there is a centre point, you don't need to be a pure genius to do well, just have completed most of the questions and hopefully have a good percentage right.if you got all the questions done you're probably in with a good chance.

and liverpool ... grrrrr lost me £50 last night, bloody john arne riise:mad:

Lets just hope Man U get stuffed by Barca 2nite!!!

My only hope of passing is that I got enough right in the first part to haul my marks up. But have written this year off, not defeatist but realist!
If by some miracle I do pass y'all will hear me yelling wherever you are!! :p

And Stranmillis' College Hall is every bit of the dungeon I remembered it to be from many moons ago!!!

I did it last year and i didnt remember any of the answers. I was hoping for different questions because i had found the maths difficult last year.

dont fret mrsgene i've came out of the IST thinking the worst and still passed.
did you answer all of section B? i guessed a couple

was at stranmillis this morning too, very large group i thought. as it was such a nice day i walked there, took about 40minutes though and that hill at the end near ended me!

and less of the Utd getting thumped tonight now ;)

I was lucky in that I was at the front, where I wanted to be, didnt want any distractions!! Had a quick shufty over each shoulder prior to it starting and was surprised how full the hall was. Very large group, but then capital city and big venue, only logical I suppose.
Seemed also to be a very youngish group, I felt old :( Yeah that hill is a killer! I got there v early cos I knew that car park fills up early, plus you never can tell with the traffic, it only takes some muppet to break down or crash on the embankment and BOOM, you're stuffed.

I answered all questions in both parts, and some were guesses!!

And as for Man U, they probably will win.....if the refs stuffed envelope has arrived in time....:p rotflmao

MrsGeneHunt, i'm sure you did OK - from my own experience of walking out of a test that I thought I'd flunked, I actually did OK :)
And Stranmillis' College Hall is every bit of the dungeon I remembered it to be from many moons ago!!!

It'll be the Stranmillis Institute of Education, QUB soon

College Hall is the actual hall in Stranmillis that you do the test in! Who cares what its called anyway, its still a dreary depressing old prefab!!

I see! :) It's been a while since I was in the place - the last time was for an interview to get into the Primary BEd course there. Didn't pass it :( but i'm in St. Mary's now! lol.. random + slightly off topic!

Hmmmphhhh...well I wasn't expecting that to be quite so difficult!! Those practice questions certainly lull you into a false sense of security!! I found part A easy enough but part B was horrible. I got it finished, guessed about 3-4 and am estimating about half the rest correct - so not wonderful lol.

Like MrsGeneHunt I thought the other participants were really young and I felt ancient! Grrr and yes that hill on the way up made me wonder if I'd ever pass the medical anyway.

So.....I'm hoping I got enough right in Part A to make up for a rubbish score on part B.

And I have to admit I also think it would have been an advantage to have set the same test last year as it took me a good 5 minutes to fully understand what I was supposed to be doing!

Anyway....still hopeful though a little deflated tbh. But will be sure to let you know when I get the results through :p

    Folks,

Please stop posting the locations of the IST Centres !!
And Ultravid, to suggest the waiting time for selection is," A bit of a joke, milking it, etc, etc." I don't think you understand the complexity of it all?
    Kind regards to all.

Ultravid my post was NOT in reaction to your comments....they were in response to a trend that can be read throughout certain posts (not the majority), that is all.

I to ,like you am keen to join a new progressive Police force, the RUC and now the PSNI have attained a professional reputation second to none including the London Met which my relatives have served in for many years. (RUC also)
I have also served in the forces throughout the "troubles" at a time when it meant as catholic I was isolated, shunned and disowned by those people now controlling our government and my by my own community.

I have no problems discussing the bigger political picture in regards to the acceptance of the PSNI to the "nationalist" community. But this isnt the forum for it. The information here should be used to help alll candidates in there recruitment process.

I have always accepted the rule of law, not just since the agreement or the Patten report.

If by pointing out on a public forum that I found some of the comments on a few posts at best unnecessary at worse sectarian, then applying your logic "An online forum such as this is a relatively safe way to discuss these things" why the h..ll shouldnt I have a moan about them?

I have served with people of all religons before and guess what, it didnt matter as they were colleagues and my life depended on them. With all due respect religon should not be a topic for the workplace or open discussion here,to quote the Patten report

"Employers are required under Northern Ireland’s fair employment legislation to create and sustain a neutral work place. The creation of a neutral working environment, both for police officers and civilians"

I to as catholic find the 50/50 recruitment a mistake, as I believe all posts should be merit only, but I dont have to accept it as a reason to bash catholic or minority applicants on a regular basis. As I said at present it is part of process so we should get on with it.

Regarding PSNI comments, Im sorry you find my tone "haughty" but my post was an attempt to highlight an issue I feel is important. I still hope that the majority of people believe religon is an unimportant factor when considering how good a police officer or potential recruit is at doing his or her job.

Anyway thats my last comment on subject..

    GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE !!!

    Hey,

I have not posted any IST locations and won't but I was just wondering why can we not post them?:D I'm guessing security reasons.

Yea I know that was not aimed at me. My comment was misleading! I just happened to start my comment with that point. I agree we should keep locations discreet before and after the IST from now on.

I agree completely but given the “unique situation” we have here in Northern Ireland I can fully understand why we as candidate PSNI officers should be discrete about locations etc not just for our own safety and the safety of everyone else attending these centres.

    Good point!

    This reminds me. .

I am in the recruitment process for the Garda Reserve and was talking with a member of the full time garda who told me that publicjobs.ie the people who are responsible for their recruitment kept a watchful eye on boards.ie and apparently a number of members got into trouble for different things said while in training on the site. I don’t know how they managed to identify each user but they did.

I wonder if consensia monitoring this thread? I don’t think it would make a difference either way because nothing is being said here that shouldn’t be said. :D
