Interesting question Ciaran. Im sure it might be to a certain extent. So now u say that i might make sure i dont mention the dealings ive been havin with Al Qaeda recently.

    JOKE

    lol!

I have been waiting three weeks for that book to come that I bought from Amazon!!
I wouldn't mind as much if it was just an ordinary book but im thinking this could be the difference between a pass and fail because I have nothing to practice on without them. I just got two practice tests emailed to me that are really beneficial anyway so that should do for now. I have my test early in mid may and then I have to go to school and do an A-Level exam all in the one morning!

    Depressing. . :o

Yea I have applied for a couple of criminology courses in Jordanstown and Queens but I'm confident with the whole Garda Reserve (considering its voluntary I don’t think they will refuse too many applicants) so I might just work full-time and do the Garda Reserve thing at the weekends while keeping my hopes up for the PSNI.

Sounds like a plan. I done a year at jtown in Law and Criminology before I transferred to England. Same course or straight crim?

Im sure the Garda reserve will give u invaluable experience and will help you with PSNI recruitment. Esp the AC.

Jordanstown = Crim with crim justice. I got a conditional offer back from jordanstown for crim with law but declined it but wishing I didn't now! What did you make of the course?

I have noticed a change on here recently. Alot more posts which have nothing to do with PSNI recruitment, and some which do give out personal details.

Out of interest, for those with names of people in their user names, I assume these are not your actual names, be it first name or second name. A name linked with an age would make you easily indentifiable. Just a thought..

Point taken. That is my real name and I know what you mean but seriously I cant see that being a problem. ;)

Same. my earlier point proved about paranoia though

Anyone feel free to change the subject. Not intentionally meaning to take over the forum sorry. will stick to PMs
    :(

I think PSNI mentioned before that these boards are read by persons in the PSNI and Consensia, and therefore discreton would be advised.
Perhaps if we all keep the chatty stuff to PMs?

I realise that C14 is at its early stages and we are all excited bout the long haul ahead and are chatting cos not much else happening at the mo.

Anyway here is a recruitment question, if its a fail answer from Consensia is it a thin envelope and if you get thru to AC is it thicker, dreading the thin one landing on the mat:(

    Hi PSNI,

Thank you for your excellent advice through so many threads. Some thing I didn't see was in relation to pensions. I too like so many others am sitting my initial test in May 08. I was just wondering is it possible to transfer a pension fund from the South to PSNI?

Re: security - don't make your email address public on this forum. User CP has the option to change it. As regards identifying individuals, your ISP can be obtained but this would be illegal for anything but crime busting reasons. I think it would also be an abuse and probably illegal if any recruitment agencies were snooping around trying to identify individuals. These are just my thoughts, though the email idea is a good one.

    Re: Eddy -
"Employers are required under Northern Ireland’s fair employment legislation to create and sustain a neutral work place. The creation of a neutral working environment, both for police officers and civilians"

I to as catholic find the 50/50 recruitment a mistake, as I believe all posts should be merit only, but I dont have to accept it as a reason to bash catholic or minority applicants on a regular basis. As I said at present it is part of process so we should get on with it.

Regarding PSNI comments, Im sorry you find my tone "haughty" but my post was an attempt to highlight an issue I feel is important. I still hope that the majority of people believe religion is an unimportant factor when considering how good a police officer or potential recruit is at doing his or her job.

I don't always agree with government commissioned reports! Needless to say I don't actually believe religion is a dirty word and it concerns me that religion is seen wholesale as BAD. In my posts I wasn't bashing anyone's religion or beliefs or credentials, merit or anything. I think the risk here in the police, is of the development of a 'dictatorship', where, ok, bad religion is no longer a problem, but intolerance of even the mention of any religion becomes the norm. And that would be little better than what preceeded it.

Maybe when we read each others posts, we should practise our verbal reasoning? I know I need to do this as much as the next person. Btw, should there be an apostrophe in other's?

Anyway, enuff said. Back on topic...

Man waiting sucks! Had my medical at the end of last month but needed further information. After many phonecalls and a number of letters i finally got what i needed. Question now is: How much longer am i going to have to wait? Its been so long since C13 started, my patience is wearing thin :)

And not wanting to count chickens etc, but saying everything now goes to plan and i get selected; would i make the May intake?

There's a private forum on boards.ie for grammar nazis (I kid you not) and this isn't it. If you want access let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

Given your previous public disclosure of having OCD, I will ask you openly and nicely, only once, not to point out spelling or grammatical errors in posts where an exchange of opposing views has taken place. This can be construed as trolling/nitpicking, and none of the mods here will tolerate it.

I will ask edzzy not to reply to this post, or your post below as I would like to get this thread back on topic as of.... NOW!

Thank you both for your co-operation.

Er pardon me, but I was picking at my own grammar/punctuation for humourous purposes... It's obviously been lost in cyberspace.

I apologise if any offense caused by me, none intended.

    A slight over-reaction no?

I made a mistake by thinking it was somebody else you were correcting, and this is "how the police force works".

For what it's worth, I do sincerely apologise, in public, for getting it wrong this time.

I accused you in the wrong and I'm sorry.

    Totally my fault.

You are welcome back at any time.

If this is how the police force works then thanks but no thanks! This is beyond ridiculous! I can not do right for doing wrong! My humour is taken as nitpicking, my questions are bigotry etc...

I bow out now. I think I've had my fill of boards.ie Politically Correct Paranoia and false accusations!

I apologise if any offense caused by me, none intended.

I wish you all, especially the folks in the process, all the very best for the future.

    Bye bye.

Yes I did over-react, sorry. I just meant that it seems my every word and comment is picked over and examined for hidden meaning. I then meant that if that was how it was working for the police, then no thank you to that - I couldn't live like that.

Thanks for your sentiments though, I appreciate it.

Please - stick around. At last count, roughly 10% of those who started in March attribute their success in getting in to Garnerville to this forum in some way.

I have to read every post on every thread in the Emergency Services and I just got confused with how I read things. It's late and I had a long day. Can apologise enough for any distress I may have caused by accusing you in the wrong.

Life's tough sometimes, some things get said in the heat of the moment. People are allowed to have an opinion. Please, please, please draw a line under picking holes each others posts. We all have the same goal here so why berate each other over minor differences? (rhetorical question before someone drags me over the coals!)

Back to the topic 'PSNI recruitment': If the cut-off point for the May intake is soon, and the next being August; will recruitment contact successful candidates during June and July to advise of vetting clearance/ August intake or will it be just 5/6 weeks before as previous?

The very best of regards to all my fellow applicants!

    JVB

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

JVB was wondering that as well. They have a longer waiting time between the intake in May and August intake than any other. Although its not as long as it seems, since August intake is on the 3rd.

Would be tough having to wait all of June with no word at all. My guess would be they will want to give people as much notice as they can, rather than waste the time.

    Hi guys,
Haven't been on for a while. Was wondering how many are still in contention for 13. I had my medical but had to provide extra info. Don't know what way its gonna go . Also did my ist for 14 recently so I'm not going away.

Hi, I've passed all stages of the process bar vetting which is still ongoing. Just got to wait out. Frustrating, but getting used to that now!

    HI,
I haven't had word yet but I had to send in more info. On the day I brought all the stuff from my medical file about the temporary period of stress I had last year (which I have already mentioned on the forum) but the doc wanted a character ref from my gp. I got a glowing endorsement from him and sent it. Hopefully it wont stand against me because i feel like i am a stronger candidate due to it. That might sound weird but you are not trained in school or anything to deal with witnessing a traumatic scene, now that I have got myself through such an experience and had the wit to speak about it, I know how to respond rather than react already. Keeping everything crossed. :)

I remember reading your posts on stress. I'm glad you raised the issue and also good news from your GP that he's supported you so well. Fingers crossed you get approved by Occ Health Dept. Let us know.
