    Evenin' all

Stumbled across this site over the weekend by accident, wish I'd seen it earlier. Been reading every page intently since. Got my IST very soon, bricking it now after doing a few online assessments, the results of which have been getting steadily worse! Just google Employer Aptitude Test and search through the results. The true/false/can't tell are a real pain in the jacksy.

Had to re-learn multiplication, division and even subtraction too because I've been using a calculator for years.

Fingers crossed for everyone else going through the initial steps.

Dare say I'll be back on here at some point soon.

    S75
I am guessing no calculators in the test?

My times tables are pretty appalling!

you get pencil and paper to work it out on.
although some of the maths is using tables to reference things instead of working it out. its a mixture of both

Can someone clarify the merit score? is the higher score better or lower??

IE, is say 700's better than 200's or visa versa??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 92 ✭✭OfficerProblem?

The lower the merit number the better, it's basically a list of potential trainees so the closer you are to number 1 for example, the further up the list you are. The higher the number the lower down the list you are.

Hope that makes sense! Merit number is awarded according to assessment centre scores.

What if the lead breaks? Can you bring your own mechanical pencil? Lol

Presumably merit number is awarded according to an average of initial test and AC scores?

    Howdy,

I found this website below quite good for practice. Also, a lot of guys in here recommend 'How to pass the police selection test'. Put it in Amazon and they will let you browse the first few pages. I have it too and it is pretty good. Took a week to get to me as im from the Republic.

Does anyone know if applying to another force affects your application. I've got a garda interview in two weeks and got my IST nxt week! Whe it rains, it pours!! :D

Do the psni have to preserve evidence at a crime scene of just seal the area off until the soco's arrive? I remember reading something a while back about officers involved in the Omagh tragedy after the bomb went off. They didnt properly preserve evidence properly I think was the accusation in court. Not sure of details.

Is there forensic training involved? I have a forensic science degree. I applied once to one of the criminalistic posts advertised last year. Didnt pass the apritude test, it was darn hard! Should have put in some better preparation but didnt know what format of test to expect!

Im going to get all csi now but is what technology is available to the PSNI with regards, fingerprint searches, are they connected to the UK database? Is there a SICAR database also? Im really getting into this but id better stop! ha

Dont think anyone on this thread will be able to answer that to be honest. You need to talk to someone who works for their forensic team.

You can apply to Garda and ONE other UK force at same time as PSNI as I understand it from what others have said on this thread.

Hi everyone. I have my IST tomorrow and was just wondering if I need to bring anything with me (apart from a watch) e.g pencils?

Thanks, and good luck everyone who has their test coming up!

Pencils paper etc all provided for you. All we have to do is show up and do our best!!!

If your watch has a stopwatch facility on it, I'd make sure I knew how to use it, timing seems to be the key thing.

I'm also doing test tomorrow - best of luck!

Sadly, one already has enough of a shopping list already for NYC !!! ( first stop Tiffanys, then Jimmy Choo etc etc :o)

I do agree that those types of programmes help enormously!
So when you pass your test this time ( and you will ) this will be your first time at the AC?

I am bricking that part, providing I get that far, will be gutted if I fail IST:mad:

If I pass IST gonna get all the help and prep I can for the AC!;)

Yeah !IF! i get through it will be my first time at the AC, i am dreading that part too.

There are clocks up on the wall, but if you're at the back it would be difficult to see the clock, so yeah bring a watch, ID and your letter

This site has been really useful.

Took this morning's IST. Not as bad as I thought (famous last words), had to guess the last few of course and one or two during because I was taking too much time. Apologies to all around me for the (hunger) noises coming from my stomach.

And there were more of you than I thought there would be too. Its funny how you profile people just by their appearance.....she looks like a cop, he doesn't etc...

One month is a longtime to wait, hey-ho, que sera. Good luck one and all.

Roughly how many are in the test session???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

70 I would say. The whole 20 days thing is just to stop people rining incase of delays. If you fail it takes about 5 days to find out, and if you pass its a about 2 weeks later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭PapaYankeeGirl

In my test yesterday there were 50-60 people. Nearly all men! Results will be out well within 20 days, mine took less than 2weeks last time, though i did fail.

:phello..one for the campaign 13's...still waiting on my vetting (grrrrr....) But I wanted to know if anyone could tell me for defs if they are not doing intakes in June and July (i.e. no intakes after 25th May until August?) I read it a few pages back and wanted to know if it has been confirmed to anyone? Good mate is getting married in Rome 11th July and I had resided to the fact I wasn't going because I couldn't commit to booking flights, accom., outfit etc... on the chance that I would be called to start-HOWever, if they are not taking squads in on those months then I could go ahead and book?? I'm tempted to call recruitment but am very mindful of how annoying those kind of queries would be to them!:(

As far as I am aware the next intake after May is August 3rd. I think it would be worth a phone call to recruitment to find out for sure.

Good luck to all doing their IST soon. Got mine in the morning.

Still hanging in for C13, so perhaps August then.

    :(
It’s been very quiet regarding further news on the May intake. Has anyone phoned them recently to see if the intake is full? I’m hoping to hear word still. Hopefully we will by the end of this week. Good luck all in the IST...mine is this Saturday.

Hey everyone, just wondering if the intake for campaign 14 is 440 candidates? or was that for 13? thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 45 edzzy

If you mean how many are applying, its roughly 8,000 for C13..yes 8,000

No C14 know yet, im sure the more knowledgable in here will have much more accurate figures, but there you are...basically a hell of alot of wanna be cops like me.:)

    Maura,
    yep 440 for C14 - 220 each side of the 50/50

I had heard from quite a reliable source that there were in excess of 9000 applications for C14.

    yee-ikes:eek:

Thats a lot of people to whittle away!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 246 ✭✭Maura2145

ah right yes.8000 is quite a few then! :o

im wondering also about the actual intake though, to commence training. 440 for campaign 13 no? Just wondering if its the same for c14

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,012 ✭✭✭MrsGeneHunt

Most campaigns are 440 per intake.

C13 had 440 training places available with intakes every five weeks right up til Nov I think. C14 will be the same, 440 training places with intakes every five weeks, general conscenus seems to be that the first intake from C14 will be Jan 09 but dont take this as gospel!:p
