    Hi All

I have convinced the money men here at Boyles that we need to send a player to this years WSOP.

I have spoken to a variety of people who have contributed ideas on what type of promotion we should use and i would like to ask the memebers of Boards for their ideas.

I intend to release the details of the promotion on the site by Tuesday morning at the latest.

The promotion/qualification should last for the month of May. I would like smalll staking tournament players to have the best chance of winning a seat.

This is a request for free market research, apologies but i am unable to pay you for your suggestions.

Please pm me, email at pspillane@boylepoker.com or best of all post your ideas on here so we an have an open discussion about it and i can explain why we can or cannot use any particular suggestion.

Finally i will try and answer as many questions as i can on here but am at two poker events this weekend and time will be limited.

Thank you in advance to those of you who take part.

    Paul Spillane
    Boylepoker Manager.

I have a good one... Hire some marketing staff?

To be honest sproodles as its a one off I thought the players who might be participating in the promotion would have the best input. I have had conversations with our marketing people and noted their ideas but am keen to hear yours.

I could go to a market research company but they would cost the price of a main event entry and i would rather give the money to the players.

you might have answered your own question. take the money saved on the research company and add another package to the prize pool.. i'd play for that value.

Fair point mickc but so far i have only convinced them to cough up one seat, if they agree to pay for more of course i will be trying to cut out the mr people.

Admit it Paul, you dont actually have a marketing dept. at all do you? :D

Are Boyle's actually allowed to run a skin specific WSOP sat that players on other skins on the network can't play in?

Freeroll for Boards players with one package guaranteed is the best way to win us over tbh.

PPP don't discuss there marketing plans with us and you guys moan about it, Boyle have offer to come on here, listen to your views, offer a WSOP package as payments and you still moan.

Very typical Irish and not very helpiful.

I'll also add that stars use 2+2 for marketing ideas and its a mutual benefit to both sides.

Now I'll prepare myself for the abuse I'll get for posting this.

as for ideas Paul, I think you are eager to set-up some sort of league and send the winner to the WSOP. I hate this idea, as I want to play one tourney and win the seat.

How about a 50 rebuy for boards players online and leave it at that. Or even better, hold a event in the SE, 100 freeze out and get your marketing info to the players that attend, sign them up and discuss rake with them directly or offer them different retainer packages to keep there interest on your site. The WSOP would go down really well if added to the prize pool etc.

    Good luck

Also Paul, what network is Boyle currently on, what number of players do you have on the network and whats the big tourneys etc. Any current sign up bonus.

Something like the League VC did would be good. Like a small stakes donkament every Sunday in May with 10 points for 1st, 8 for 2nd etc and the overall winner goes to the WSOP.

EDIT: Why the hatred for spreading it over a few weeks?...Seems better imo

I like the idea of a 100fo in the SE.

    Good Post Ollie,

Typical of the Irish, moan moan moan. Given an opportunity of some input & look at the replies received.

I would prefer a one off tournament, maybe a €50 freezeout. I hate the idea of any kind of league, availability problems etc.
To encourage players & get some to return why not offer tournament Tokens / $'s to be used at a later date in tournaments only.

The fitz in limerick would be better than the SE.

So you have one package , seat and travel expenses that you want to give away to a player that you would in effect be sponsoring for this tourney, is that it?

If so, what I would do is something along the lines of:
Run a series of well structured tournaments with a guarantee of about $1000 for a $20+2 buy in. Run them every night for a month and each players best 10 results are counted in a league format. League leader at the end of the promotion is your sponsored player.

LOL at people whining about free market research.

I think it would be a nice touch to have a Freeroll for all mods of the Poker forum. Think of the amount of leeway this would buy you?? LOL

If that idea isn't met with a rush of approval from all, (which I'd be very suprised by TBH) a boards exclusive Freeroll, or something would be cool too and I think it would be a very good way to have a large % of the highest raking Irish on-line Poker players begin to play on Boylesports. Possibly have some kind of rakeback account possible for boards players and with this added on-top I would say you could actually make a decent amount of money on the long term from regular posters here.

Although I'll be perfectly honest with you, if you want repeat long-term business you'll really need more then just a once off WSOP ticket, thinking long term, you'll need to have a good value RB or "Loyalty" "Cash-back" scheme to keep custom. But I still think the Poker forum mods freeroll is defo the way to go...

I guess yere thinking a main event seat. Anyone think like a $50-100 freezeout where instead of adding one main event seat ye add seats to the$1500 events.

Players have to wear boylesports gear.More players means more advertisment.

Also means more travel and accom expenses. They add quite a bit to the package, the Stars ones come with $2.5k each IIRC.

In all fairness, It would probably have to be an online tournament.
S.E. can only hold 120 players. People are not going to travel up this tournament.

a 50 or 100 frezzeout sounds good to me,have this online my horse and cart wont make it to the SE

    My 2c,
Organise a €240 f/o in the SE, the Fitz, Lukes or whereever. Run satts on line to qualify for the event. Make the final a 100 player tourney, so entry fees generate 3 packages @€;8,000 and add the extra 1 from boylespoker so 4 packages on the night.

You can make it a condition that the only way in is to win your seat online, or you could have it that half the seats are won in online satts and the other half can be directly bought in.

I think it would create great interest. If all the clubs in Dublin didnt want to run it, I'm sure the Cue Club would be up for it.:p

I would like to see something that gives those of us who do not live in Dublin an equal chance.

If it's live then how about running 10 €100 FO in various casinos across the country. So that all of us have a chance. [Probably have two of them in Dublin then the rest could be in Waterford, Wexford, Cork, Limerick, Sligo, Galway, Drogheda, Bambridge - off the top of my head.] The winners of the various tournaments to get €1500 - €200 in cash [For expenses] and €1300 to go to a one table SnG where the prize would be a WSOP package of €13k.

If the WSOP package is simply to be given away then the FO amount could be reduced accordingly to €50 or even €30. But I think some cash by the players should be stumped up just simply to eliminate the freeloaders. Also because the casinos have to pay staff.

Boyles could get people to sign up to an online account perhaps to reclaim $50 if they have played in the event.

We don't all live in Dublin, just because the dubs can't navigate outside of the city they take everything from us, the so called farmers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,070 ✭✭✭Ollieboy

to suit everyone, why not have 5 tourneys online, $20 per person . This money is than used to cover travelling expenses to come to Dublin and play a one table sat. Top 2 players from each event get to the 1 table sat.

I also really like Connies idea.

Why not just have the event online on Boylepoker, a simple resolution really!

I don't see why an on-line Poker room, would hold a Live Satellite?? It seems kind of mad really...

I think people should start thinking about on-line ideas, after all, the whole idea is to increase people playing Poker on boylesports, not to just send someone to the WSOP. Although Connie's idea seems quite good...

Fully agree, the mod wages don't go as far as they used to back when, and the hookers are very overused at this point......

Aaaanyways, if this is a Boylesports funded package then unless there is a package added I don't think there should be an entry fee if the player is expected to be a boyle sponsored player and have to wear hat/shirt etc. As to what best format? That is a more difficult one.

I doubt you are intending to restrict it to a boards only package, as without all the other extra that make people play on a site (traffic, rakeback, bonus, etc) you are not going to make enough long term to profit from it. I personally don't know what the traffic is like on your site, but if you have a few 'overlay extremely likely' tournies on your site, one a week for 3 weeks say, then you could spread the cost of a package across 3 weeks in the form of expected overlays. For example, say you make it a $20+2 FO, and there is a $12,500 package for grabs but you get 400 runners each week, then there is a 4k overlay each week for 3 weeks, amounting to an extra package in essence added. That way you would have 3 sponsored people going to the WSOP. Adjust the entry accordingly depending on what runners you think you will get. This might also get more signups, deposits, traffic etc.

Alternatively, just offer a freeroll (speaking selfishly, only to boards members, speaking realistically, to all of your online players) with 1 ticket. Chances are I personally wouldn't play any of these as 1 prize, 400+ entrant tournies aren't really my thing. If there was some sort of a live game organised somewhere as a freeroll (like party did for the IPC) then I might well play it.

    Good luck with this.
