For those of you who have ever used a bus, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Bus Éireann, shame on you! Your grammar is apalling.

Possibly, I always thought it just said "Operate" and I always scowled everytime I heard it.

It's as if "whoa! it actually operates"

The only possible way to make that any better is to have the voice done by E4 guy.

How do you even pronounce that distinctive Irish "t" that sounds like a hiss?

    ttttssss

    Luggage dewrs opp-er-ayittttssss

    SHUT UP.
Honestly that is SO the last thing I need to have looping through my head right now. Insomnia coffee a deadline and operating luggage doors DO NOT MIX.

I think you'll find it's "This train is for Bray, Bré."

There are actually a suprising amount of threads created on this!

    Stupid bus.

It clearly says operate, not operating.

I had an argument with someone before on this, listen for gods sake, use your ears, not your imagination!

    I am passionate about this.

I think the guy who recorded that message works (or used to work) in Busaras, making announcements, directing people to their buses etc. I remember him as being helpful and pleasant - unlike many of the grumpy bollixes that you come across working in that place.

We stayed in an appartment in Westport before, when you got into the lift this real culchie girl spoke in the flaaatest accent:

    'Doorshs Openin'

    'Doorshs Closin'

    'Goin Up'

    'Fhrisht Floor'

    'Doorshs Openin'

And so on... Was so funny the first few times but started to grate thereafter. :)

You are passionately wrong. It's operating.

Why do they say the place names in Irish but not the "This train is for" bit?

    Museum, Ard Museum

'Alight at dundrum for bus services' I've only ever heard alight being used in conjunction with trains/platforms and the like. Can one alight from ones car too?

Also female voices in lifts 'Going Down' in a posh english accent, yes please!

The NYC subway in a rather come-on-down/price-is-right voice - "Stand clear for the closing doors :)"

They're not very good at Irish.

They tried asking for help in the Teach na nGealt, but were shunned ;)

Hmmm.. I always though it was "Stand Clear. Luggage doors in operation."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,787 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

    He clearly says operate!

I've has arguements about this before, there's no "ing" at the end.

Well, it's obviously a direct order to the luggage doors - kind of an Open Sesame. But why do they have to stand clear?

    Stand clear; nitpicking nerds operate.

Irish Rail are all about ag caint as Gaeilge!

Do they pronounce the 'Bré' part with a silly falsified Gaeilge accent, like your one does on the Luas?
