How'd you know you failed by 4 marks - do they actually let you know your score? I thought it was simply pass or fail.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

If you fail the letter will tell you your score. This then tells you how many marks you failed by.

Its very frustrating to see you failed by 3 marks trust me, so dont waste time and answer as many as you can even if the last 10 questions are all guesses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭PapaYankeeGirl

I guess goodcopbadcop is right, they must only tell the failures their score.:(

Thanks, goodcopbad! when i knew i wasnt goin to get finished i just started pickin random answers although i still never put an answer for each one. Il just count last year as experience.:D

I would be sooooooooo miffed to find out I only failed by 3 or 4!!!!

I did find the Harry Tolley book helpful though I must say and I have been practising general mental arithmetic and the like to keep the old grey matter functioning.

All we can do is our best!! (and pray its good enough!):o

    Fingers crossed 'ey?

When is yours anyway? i wonder is there anything printable from the web that i could practice??? Hmmm, might have to check that one later, up to my eyes with an assignment at the mo :mad:

Thanks for the blushing comments folks. Its reassuring to know I won't be marked down for it, I hope! My test is in May, as I think I was quite late in responding to the campaign. I nearly missed it!

I understand you can only apply for one UK force at any one time, which the PSNI is, which is unfortunate. The Garda you can apply at same time as UK force.

I filled out an online application for Greater Manchester police back there in feb(though i didnt send it). I had applied for the PSNI last year so when it asked had i applied previously to a police force i selected yes, but when it give u the option to choose which force you had previously applied for it did not list the PSNI as an option. This must mean that you can apply for thr PSNI and an English force at the same time as they dont class the PSNI as one of thier forces. Hope you catch my drift??:o

First time i did it i got a letter on my 21st birthday to say i had failed by one mark... i was raging  grrr

Not the nicest thing you want thru the post on your birthday :(

This time next week I will have it done and it will be in the hands of the Gods (and by Gods I mean Consensia lol.) Crikey!

Then ensues 2 weeks of waiting for the post....remind me again why we're putting ourselves thru this :D

Do you think theres any logic in that the earlier you do you test, then the earlier you do ac/vetting/medicals and get your call up to Hotel Garnerville ( all being well)
Or are Consensia a law unto themselves???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Well the sooner you complete your medical and vetting the sooner you get in. I don't think anyone really can say for sure if doing the IST early will speed you through the rest of the process, but I could see how it could work that way.

I think it depends more on your merit placing. Score well in both tests and you should be in fairly quickly, although it doesn't always work that way either.

Its certainly a long process. all bein well

Im currently completing my second yr of a Law and Criminology degree in England and always had the intention of applying to the PSNI as soon as i finished. But after watching this forum and the frustration of many applicants playin the waiting game i decided to go ahead with campaign 14 as at least I would be otherwise distracted this time next year, being in my final year. And if im unsucessful at least i will have started the ball rolling :)

I see they do quite a few training courses for the assessment centre over here. Im sure they might do at home too..

I've been going through this forum for a while now, there is a Huge amount of advice on offer, I think quite alot of it will be useful to us in the next few months!!

Best of luck for your initial too ;-)

Yea I filled out an application form for the West Midlands police but like you I didn't send it away and it didn't list the PSNI on the application as one of the UK police forces.

Ah right, im sorta the opposite to you. Im in my final year at the NRC in coleraine doing Health Studies. I applied for uni there, got 3 offers for paramedic degrees and 1 for a police degree in wales. Iv turned down them to to be a cop. So its obvious i want to be a copper. AHHHH! So many discisions. Il have to get a job though when i finish college next month, cant waste like a year or two waiting to be a cop. GOSH, i have just realised I have been rambling on. Oops:o

    Hello

I got the book The New Police Selection System yesterday from Amazon and have found it really helpful. so thanks for the recommendation. Although the whole situational interview examples have scared the pants off me, but however...bit to go before I've to worry about that (if ever lol). Anyway...I was wondering if there are any other mums out there applied or applying for the PSNI? My husband is going to take over looking after the kids if I get this job, and I'm just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat? Also does anyone know when or if the PSNI will be launching another part time police officer campaign? So glad I found this message board as it's been so helpful.

Never heard of it. It must be a well kept secret?

Nah. Well i would hope it wouldnt get to that. im pretty much finishing class this time next yr with only exams to do in June, so I would hope to defer. But that would be best case scenario really. I will give it my all, but i can see how competitive it is so even just experience goin thru the system will hopefully help get me in someday

How you gettin on with that book? I bought it too, certainly prepares your mind. to work faster on the day hopefully!

Hey guys long time no see =]

anyways i saw on the last page discussion about the contents of the IST.

Well my IST is on the 19th May. And as this is my first time i dont know what to expect. I understand about the layout now (math and logic etc).

However people keep saying they run out of time.
Can someone give me some detailed info about the time limit in the IST.

    eg- Part A - 7 minutes (roughly 12 questions)
part b - math - 7 mins etc etc etc.

Can someone help me out? been through the history of this forum and havnt found anyone giving any details on exact times.

Any help would be appreciated guys :D

    thanks
    ~Stephen

Does anyone have a telephone number for Consensia? All i can see is fax and email. I cant find the letter I was sent a while back with my ID no and I had to present this letter at my IST which is two weeks away! Ill have to have a good look around again!

I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about. Surely the PSNI will take us there, or the organisation that's running that section of training. At the very least, I'm sure there will be enough cars in our squad to travel there and back if needed.

    Pssst! What is lorne?

It used to be a secret but not anymore!

Its only about 10 mins drive from Garnerville, we used to go there with the Guides back in the hazy days of my youth!

Basically new STO go there for a few days, some team building and a getting to know your squad kind of thing for a little light relief before the REAL stuff starts!!

GEMMAT - cant see you having to make your own way there, once you have booked into Hotel Garnerville for your first week they will be responsible for any transport to anywhere you are going.
Sorry to hear about the driving test - its a nightmare - I did mine the minute I turned 17, dont think I would pass now!!!
For C14 Consensia sent out a Driving Survey, apparently people like me who did their test yonks ago have a category on their licence which allows you to drive bigger vehicles ( like Landrovers, woohoo! ) which the newer licence doesnt have. Seems there is a shortage of officers who can drive the bigger vehicles. Well, thats I've been told anyhoo, so dont take it as gospel!

Good luck for Sunday to you and all the new recruits:D

I heard from a serving police officer than they were doing away with part-time/reserve cops in the PSNI. dont know if its true or not though. Sure there were plans for PCSOs and that hasnt happened.

    Stephen142,

I'm in C13 awaiting vetting clearance. Honestly mate I wouldn't stress about the intricacies of the IST. As far as the tests go I would advise you to revise verbal and numeric reasoning, do some work rate tests and leave the rest up to your performance on the day. Worrying about timings and specifics will only add stress to the whole process. If it's to be, it will be. Just concentrate on getting mentally prepared for the day. Best of luck.

    JVB
