Just got the green light from OH this morning...very relieved. It's over 10 weeks since I did my medical, I was starting to get worried!!!

Just waiting for the phone call now!!

Anyone who is soon to do a medical remember to take as much info as possible or you could end up waiting a long time for an answer as I did.

says on the form to tick the relevant boxes relating to your history and your doctor should then supply any additional information needed. got an appointment booked so hopefully he will leave nothing out

I have the rather nasty habit of blushing at interviews. I can't seem to help myself. I wonder if this would be held against me at the role play assessment centre stage?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 45 edzzy

We all get nervous, it is as you easy to interpret this blushing as excessive nervousness.

You could get something medical from your GP for the day,but this in turn might effect your preformance.

Sounds silly but what about a cover up er emm...make up?(im not being smart here, just thinking way outside box)

Probably best if you use cognitive behavioural methods or NLP to teach yourself not to worry.

Anyway good luck and dont worry, we will all be nervous.

Ps. Done a bit of research and hypnosis seems to be regarded as serious technique to counteract this issue. MAybe all us 14 people should get some

"you will be a great police officer" repeat after me....you will be a great police officer" ah well heres hopin

    Hi Guys,

How lond does it take to receive your IST results? And what is the waiting time between the IST and the Assessment Centre?

    Thanks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 660 ✭✭✭JVB

    Mandy Moo,

You don't receive specific IST results. If you meet the pass standard you will know you have passed if you are advanced to the Assessment Centre (AC.) You will be notified of this within 6 weeks of your IST and the time you have to wait until your AC can vary. Then approx 6 months after initial application you will receive feedback from Consensia on your overall performance. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Dont worry about the blushing thing, when I get nervous I get the serious giggles. If I get thru to the AC I have visions of some role actor going off on one and me just standing there chuckling like a right numpty:p

Clearly I will have to work on that.:D

Mandy Moo - I think from reading much earlier posts that they are quite quick in getting back to you after IST to let you know if you've passed and made it thru to the AC - bout 2 weeks or so. It might be longer but I think this stage moves quite well. Just seems that later you have to get prepared for waiting with vetting and medicals etc etc. :(

So dont sweat the small stuff!!

If you pass the IST you hear back within about two weeks. If you fail it comes a little quicker.

You will get a date for the assessment centre if you pass, you usually do the assessment centre about 4-6 weeks after your result from the IST is posted out.

if you look at the previous months intakes the next intake usually seem to get notified between the end of the week leading upto that intake and the start of the next week,ie i think seeing as this months intake is on sun you should maybe see people getting offered between the end of this week and start of next week(that`s just how i seem to be reading things so dont quote me on that)good luck

Do not worry they will definitely not take away marks for blushing! You are assessed in 7 competencies, which are Resillance, Effective communication,Community and Customer Focus,Respect for Diversity, Team Working,Personal responsibility and Problem Solving. You will not have points given or taken away for blushing, what you wear, what you look like etc etc.

Howdy all, anyone get that book 'how to pass the police selection system'? I thought the math was a bit easy in it. Maybe its different when ur under pressure in the IST!? Does anyone know that if I apply to any other force will it effect my application? Iv applied to the gardai also and got an interview in may. I dont mind which force I get into really, first come first served I say!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 160 ✭✭manaka

Best of luck to you in your IST next week! Hope it all goes well. I got mine on 28th. Ill start worrying soon!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭Ultravid

Thanks for the blushing comments folks. Its reassuring to know I won't be marked down for it, I hope! My test is in May, as I think I was quite late in responding to the campaign. I nearly missed it!

I understand you can only apply for one UK force at any one time, which the PSNI is, which is unfortunate. The Garda you can apply at same time as UK force.

I wish i could help u, but i cant really. If u read back through comments u will see that some people bought books etc to help them. I didn't! I dont see any real way you can practice. I failed by 4 marks, but i never completed the last section, i ran out of time. So i suppose i would say, if you dont know the answer take a quess cause they are multiple choice, (i did eeny meeny miney mo). you might as well guess a random answer cause there is like a 1/4 or 1/3 chance it will be correct. There are a few practice questions on consensias web site, they will help you see the format of the test. Other than that im not that much help.

Ps. I worried about stupid things like bringing a pencil and what to wear.

They provide stationary and bottles of water. I just wore jeans, flat pump shoes, a wee vest top and a cardigan over it (gosh i sound like a pensioner) Smart casual i suppose. Nobody looks at what your wearing, not at this stage anyway. :)
