Its something to do with the american network i guess. Not available over here. It will pop up on your phone every so often but no harm

edge is the same technology as gprs but faster. it's slower than 3g. meteor and o2 both have edge networks.

if you don't have the settings set up you won't be able to access the internet on your phone

Hi guys...just unlocked an iphone brought home from US with ziphone 3..my questions are...what is an edge connection and the fact that I left it blank in my network settings is this any harm?
    cheers
    gandalf

It won't do any harm to leave it blank

EDGE is just a way of sending data over a GSM network so it allows you to access the internet on your phone when you are not connected to a wifi network.

If your provider supports EDGE or even GPRS and it is not at an outrageous price then you can put the setting for our network make sure you check the cost first

BTW you really should not use Ziphone there are safer ways to unlock your phone than that
If you have a MAC use pwned if you have a PC pwned will be out soon in the meantime use iliberty+

Good news for myself and Cremo (and numerous others i'd say).

Bit wary to do it though.. that whole area seems to scare me as if something was to go wrong in that area, odds are you'll end up with a bricked phone.

I read it's only supported under v1.1.4 but not v1.1.3.. something about they don't have the firmware for it.

Looks like good news alright, from looking through a few of the sites i think i'll have to restore to 1.1.4 using itunes, then activiate and jailbrake using iliberty and then use bootneuter to unlock it. i have a 1.1.3 otb with 3.9bl thanks to ziphone..think i'll hold off for a while before trying it though last thing i wanna do is brick it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Gryzor

in the same boat myself....think it'll be safer to wait till its a tried and fully tested method.....its not like the phone is affected by the 3.9bl at the moment anyway

Buy it in an Apple store, the AT&T ones have started making people sign contracts in-store. Well you could always try AT&T anyway.

    Yes.

Apple will sell you the phone no questions asked, they don't care about you signing a contract there and then as it can be done through iTunes.

It is liable to tax though if you're stopped coming back into the country. The tax is €108.85 on it.

    Hi,

Have an unlocked/activated/jailbroken 1.1.3 16 gig iPhone and was thinking of using Iliberty to unlock etc after I upgrade to 1.1.4 through Itunes.

On the phone I have all the usual, contacts, bunch of albums and some audiobooks, will I lose these with the update and breaking of 1.1.4?

If yes to above, can I back them up somehow, maybe in Itunes but how?

Has anyone found a solution to the O2 9011 texts that are sent on a PAYG O2 1.1.4 phone? Other than disabling EDGE.

Would people recommend going the whole hog and using Pwnage rather than iLiberty?

    Thanks!

ooh it does look good doesn't it, i'll be waiting for some reports first and possible even until 2.0 comes out.

I'm unlocking new iPhone with iliberty+. What tweaks etc need to download from installer (e.g. for sim contacts onto iPhone, +353 fix etc) thanks.

    Hello All,

Since I installed 1.1.4 on my phone EDGE seems to be gone Does anybody know how to get it back again? When I go to the Installer application I don't have the option to install BSD Subsystem or to open SSH. I'm pretty sure they're both already on my phone as when I connect it to independence it tells me SSH is there.

I also managed to connect to my phone using fugu but I don't know what settings I have to use for O2 Ireland (http://incomplete-news.metaparadigma.de/?p=29) or how to even enter commands on fugu.

    Any help much appreciated.

Thanks to all you great people, I was able to unlock the iPhone and I have had no problems since.

    I do have 2 questions/concerns...

    1) The iPhone cannot read any of the contacts on my SIM card. Is there fix for this?

    2) When I linked my iPhone with iTunes on my PC, it said it would check for an update on the 6th...I have not linked them up since. Can an update brick my phone?

Just for anyone who wants to try it, the process of resetting back to 4.6BL from ZiPhone's downgraded 3.9BL using BootNeuter:

If you have 1.1.4 on a brand new locked or official phone then you do not need to restore

Check firmware on a lock unactivated phone

slide unlock then dial this on the dialer

    *3001#12345#*

cd...when I do above for a brand spanking new phone "imported" from the USA (New York) I get firmware version 04.02.13_G...does this mean its 1.1.4?

Also, how do I restore a new phone to 1.1.4 if its 1.1.2 (which I think this one is based on above) or 1.1.3 as when hook it up to itunes it looks to activate it with AT&T first...

Will the "old" way of holding home and power buttons whilst hooking up to itunes and when prompted to restore simply hit shift & restore & use downloaded 1.1.4 firmware (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750) work & then go use iliberty+ work?

Add rep.frenchiphone.com to your sources then install simport that will bring over all of your contacts

Itunes will just check to see if there is an update if you go into itunes preferences then general you can turn off check for updates automatically

At the moment an update would not "Brick" the phone it would relock it that is all if you are already on 1.1.4 then there is currently no update available so it will do nothing

Anyone know a working licence key for 'ShowTime'? It's a video recording app :) Only allows 4 seconds recording though unless you donate/have a licence key :(

No 04.02.13 is the baseband for 1.1.2

so you can simply just update to 1.1.4 as the restore to 1.1.4 is for a previously jailbroken phone on an older firmware version

    Then you can use iliberty+

Ta cd, but how do I get to update it? When hook up to itunes it looks to activate with AT&T first (i.e. no option there to update) & I can't see a way of bypassing the activation screen...
