I was made feel unwelcome in the Irish language forum.

I don't need it anyway, but their attitude stinks.

Sorry, DesF, but TnanG is lán-Ghaelach and there are no exceptions. Moved your post to a new thread in AH, should get some responses here (probably from the TnanG heads).

I couldn't care less any more.

Your charter states that once someone isn't trolling then English is tolerated.

You know, I once had an interest in learning the language.

This closed club attitude has made me change my mind.

    Thanks anyway.

More like an elite group who "dislike" outsiders.

They may as well rename the forum IFF - English Not Welcome with an attitude like that. The ridulous part of it is DesF was looking for help on getting to know the language better.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,179 ✭✭✭FunkZ

Man there's better languages, like German!

What exactly did they say? I can't find your posts.

You should check out this site http://abairleat.lurgan.biz/moodle/eir/3/abairLeat.php

Makes learning Irish a little more fun.

Yes was called a Jackeen on a recent trip to Westport! What are we living in 1800s!

Yeah, that's because it was moved.

Thanks, but no. Not any more. There's nothing *fun* about being part of a group of elitists.

Your in it. Hullaballoo canted it over here, so DesF duely edited.

    @ Desf

I think you should have edited to say what you've said but with a quote of your original message. Let people see the injustice for themselves.

i would agree with Des. Irish speakers are not better than the rest of us, and most of them try to act like they are. Seeing as many of my friends are fluent, we have arguements all the time cause i couldnt be ar*ed going to the gaelgor spots and even making an attempt with them. puts me right of the language!

Don't be put off by a minority on a message board. In reality, Irish speakers are more than willing to help others to learn. I hated Gaeilge in school, it took me a few years after leaving school to realise how fun it actually is to speak it, even if you've only a few words, like me.

If people are being stroppy at you because you're not fluent, then they're not worth talking to.. in either language.

Des is completely right to be honest. I saw his post (which was fine really) and was going to respond to it later, but now that he hates all of us Gaeilgeoirí (because of a silly rule) he probably won't even want to hear what I have to say.

I mean sure, he could've started a new thread in the Radio Forum for his query, but to be honest he was far more likely to get a better response in a thread already discussing it.

If I post as Gaeilge in AH, will it get moved to TnanG? What king of a world are we living in?

but is it really a minority? Ive been hasssled, des has been hassled? It has become very elitist, especially in the east imo.

at least in the west youll find someone willing to put up with crap irish for the sake of helping em learn

    Not in my experience tbh
I hated Gaeilge in school, it took me a few years after leaving school to realise how fun it actually is to speak it, even if you've only a few words, like me.
    I loved it tbh.

In Primary school I was picked out of a class of 38 to appear on an irish language TV program, do some speaking and reading.

It was the idiot "Christian" Brother in secondary who did for me tbh. Made me lose any of it I had.

I always had an interest in learning more about it after school, and I thought my OP in TnaG was a way for me to "get back into it" so to speak.

I did a search for the topic, found it being discussed in TnaG, but discovered I hadn't a scooby of understanding it, so I checked the charter to see if English is permitted in any way. Turns out the charter says it is, but the Mod and users decided to tell me to piss off to AH.
If people are being stroppy at you because you're not fluent, then they're not worth talking to.. in either language.
    Too true.

    Nope

Yeah, the topic was there, so there was obviously no issue with the topic being discussed. I wanted to find out more about it from the people it's obviously aimed at.

    But feck them now tbh.

As I said before, if somebody's going to be an asshole because you're not fluent, then they're not worth talking to at all, regardless of what language they're speaking.

What puzzles me is why would you want to go into a dead language forum?

If it's dead, then there is no such forum!

    No

Maybe you should grow the f*ck up and stop generalising about Irish speakers based on what happened on a message board.

Having a fit and refusing to learn Irish because you weren't welcomed on a website... bloody hell.

Give me strength!!! Des Bishop seems to be getting along just fine in Connemara
