    alright jim and gemmat1984
nope, i dont have a degree either and where i wasnt kicked out of school, i walked out the doors at the ripe age of 17!!! so we're in the same boat!!
in my opinion it wont make a bit of a difference as from my experience, police is 90% common sense and 10% knowledge!!!
thats where the elitist garda recruitment process falls down, they put too much emphasis on your educational background, thats also why in my opinion, the psni are a much better police force!!!!;):)

Not everyone who is vetted and put through a medical will be offered a place.

There is a certain amount of wastage in case some applicants fail either the medical or vetting stages.

They are indeed only offering the vetting/medical to a limited amount of people as aposed to the previous campaigns where everyone in the merit pool went through these stages. IE the top 440 then a small amount just in case, obviously carlty was in the just in case part.

    So how are you all?

    Martin.

What? I never once labelled any of you as wastage?! I said I wouldn’t want to get put through as wastage as quoted by another user and not referring to any of you!! I know you have all done well. . very well in fact and I’d be very chuffed if I make it that far in C14! Yes 10,000 applications is alot and of course all of you here are still in with a very good chance so why would I label any of you as 'wastage'! I know the IST will be a challenge but I said im more worried about the A/C than the IST! I know 60% of people fail the IST but roleplays wouldn't be my stong point which is why I said that and no im not cocky just optimistic! My comment was not meant in the way any of you interprtetd it up!! So congrats on getting this far and well done. .

So applogies if I offended anyone as no offence was meant in anything I said!

    fair play to you ciaran,
good message there and i think it was the way you worded it that got peoples back up as i dont think we all interpreted it wrong, but theres no damage done and apology accepted by me anywho... !! listen buddy ist is actually alot harder than you think, so dont under estimate it but at the same time best of luck.. ;)

Yea I have to admit I obviously have underestimated the IST but when consensia supplied me with a sample as easy as they did its not hard to see why I was mislead into thinking it will be easy!

If only the IST was as easy as the sample questions, it really is way more difficult, ul understand wat everyone is saying when you take the test and that we arent all on ur back for no reason. U just have to be prepared for wat is up ahead cuz if go in there thinkin it will be a doddle you'll be hugely mistakened!!!!:p

So good luck and prepare for it the best u can

Yes the sample can be misleading, thats why ciaran listen to what people are telling you. i was like you first time i done it i looked at the sample and thought it would be no problem, and guess what? I failed:(

I thought it would be a breeze the first time and i failed... but it made me realise how much i wanted it and i gave every thing i had next time round... and now i've got this far :o

I too Failed the IST my first time when I was 17.... wasnt until my 2nd time that I passed it and then passes assesment centre, and here I am.

Its not the hardest test ever by no means, but it is tricky enough if you take it lightly.

I for one am in NO WAY underestimating the IST, hence buying the book recommneded on here on earlier posts. Ordered another couple from Amazon 2day as well to get as much practice in as possible. I didnt think the tests in the book were all that easy and if they are at that level or higher in the actual IST then it is going to be really quite tough. On the mock tests in the book I was averaging 21 & 22 out of 25 which on the whole isnt too bad but would've liked to be getting closer to full marks on them. Still I have about three and a half weeks to prepare so gonna get the head down and do as much practice as possible. cos I want this so much!!!

I am also not doing as well as I would like on the true/false/cant tell tests either, out of 31 questions in the book of the first two I have completed I only scored 23 and 25 respectively, nowhere near good enough in my opinion.

Dont think Ciaran meant to offend anyone plus he is only coming 18 and we should admire his youthful exuberance - at almost 36 I'm old enough to be his mother *groans*

And to all the gals and guys still waiting to hear about C13, I feel for ya, I only hope I make it as far to play the waiting game!!

    :p

Does anyone have any idea what the pass mark is for the IST?

Ive just applied for campaign 14 and currently awaiting an IST date. Im 22 and i attempted the test once before when i was 18.

Didnt think much as regards to the IST and was unpleasently suprised when i sat the test and failed it! Caught out by the time limit but im guessin i failed it for a reason and i hadnt prepared myself for it in any way.

i will hope to not make the same mistake again :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

I might be mistaken but I think its 45/75 needed for a pass. Could be wrong Its been a while since i took it but I think its something like that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 246 ✭✭Maura2145

yea that sounds about right if my memory serves me well... I remember not even having answered half the questions. shud have done more research i suppose. Ive learnt more on this forum in the past 2 days than i ever knew!

    Maura,
I would really recommend getting How to pass the New Police Selection System by Harry Tolley

You can get it off Amazon for just over £8, and it has practice tests and also advice about the Assessment Centre, which hopefully we will both get thru to this time!
    :D

I am very nervous about the IST, from what I have read on this site a LOT of people go out at this stage - so really as much prep as possible will be advantageous.

Best of luck to you for your campaign:)

As far as know everything continues in June and July except for intakes to allow trainers to take holidays!!!

Just to add that I am 36 years young.

    ;)
Have just read back over my old posts - typo!!! Am 36 not 37 and not even 36 yet, not for another couple of weeks (does that smack of desperation at not wanting to get older????!!!!!)

Hoping that the age and life experience thus far will be an advantage in the recruitment process. Fingers crossed!!!

Thankfully tho I think another couple of posters are in similar age group to me, Edzzy, Mickey2186 etc so dont feel too bad...

Whats the status with your campaign, you in/out or simply shaking it all about ? LOL

Whoa there! You sure? Don't mean to doubt you, and I know that PSNI posted a while back that there is no intake in June/July, but I think he meant either one or the other. I'm gonna call Garnerville today and ask anyway, but I'm pretty sure the intakes just stop for one month. Although both would be great, bit of extra time to get a few odds and ends squared away. If I get accepted that is... :o

She's right. They're simply skipping one intake on the 29th of June. The next intake will be 5 weeks after that, which would make it the 3rd of August.

    Happens every year.
