No didn't know that! As I said need to work on that a bit! So assuming I pass IST and move onto the AC I could still expect to be in with a chance with a score of around 50?

Wouldn't count on it - i got 55 and still don't know if i will be offered a place.

Could not answer that one mate. I am not defo in, it is looking good but since i am outside the intake(420) by around 100 i would be getting in because off religion.

That wouldn't be on if you didn’t get offered a place! Percentage wise that’s basically 80%! If you don't get offered a place with that score then I think im just wasting my time applying! If the 50/50 rule wasn't in place I'd say chances are you'd be in Granville now Jim

Good luck with the may intake etc anyway!

Also a very good friend of mine scored 53 in AC and she hasn't even been called for a medical yet - when she rang to find out why (considering she is only 2 points below me!) she was just politely asked to be patient. She still aint heard and now we have both applied for campaign 14

If being in the police is what you have your heart set on, you will get in sooner or later. Thats my philosophy anyways, Im trying until I get in, so it will happen at some time.

If not ill Pm ciaran for some advice on acing the tests :D:D (Only joking ciaran)

Don’t worry im sure I could spare a few tips! Anyway what’s wrong with a bit of optimism? Is there anything wrong with hoping that I get in in at an early stages of the process and not having to worry about being part of the 'wastage'? Good philosophy but personally I wouldn’t like to be served by a police service that consists of officers who have just scrapped it in! Only joking goodcopbadcop ;)

    Real subtle

The tests you do dont reflect how well you would suit being a police officer, they are simply a method of selecting people. I know people who could get very high scores and would make a terrible police officer.

I think a few years back you just went down to the station for an interview and if you showed interest you got in.... that would have been good times :D

but at the same time just because you scored high doesnt mean your going to be a good cop. some people are just naturally good at exams others arent.

i only scored 38 in the A/C but sent off vetting forms a few weeks ago and am waiting for a medical date. im not hopeful off getting in this time around but if somehow i did i would strive to be the best officer that i could be.

once your in your A/C score and merit pool number will count for nothing. just my 2 cents:cool:

Ciaran2008 - have officially just made you the mentor for C14 - our own little ray of sunshine on the PMA front ( positive mental attitude ):D

Have spent the morning doing the tests in the book and did a bit better than I thought I would so feeling slightly mollified, but room for improvement for sure!

They give you times for the tests in the book, could any veterans pf previous campaigns give us newbies an indicator of the time constraints we'll actually be facing in out ISTs?

    ta ever so :p

I hope the police Gods look down on us and take us in from the rain to that special place called Garnerville... Were both hanging in campaign 13 until the bitter end I tell ya!!!:D

your doing the test, you think its all going so well and then the consensia guy shouts time up. and you realise your no where near done:eek:

that would be the most blunt and cheeky way of putting it i think:D

best advise i could give is just do the questions you know first. if you think your going to have to spend time working it out then just skip over it. go back if somehow you have the time but your better of just guessing really. remember that each question is only worth 1 mark so theres no point spending 5 minutes doing 1 question when you could answer a load of easier ones instead in that time

How may separate parts of the IST are there? Whats the time on each one? Roughly how many people are in with you? Will I ever stop asking questions? LOL:cool:

Yea I agree with what your saying conor123! When I was a lot younger and wanted to join the police and this was back in the days of the RUC I always expected an interview and maybe a physical fitness test etc but now that im nearing the big one eight I have a better understanding of how it works!

In regards to the A/C not mattering once you make into the force im not sure about that and what I do know is that if you score high in the A/C they will automatically send you info regarding the high potential development scheme! It’s a scary though when you think about it because they are already deciding the future leadership within the service based on one test so early on! I know there is probably more ways of ‘climbing the ladder’ in the service but when the opportunity exists so early on its scary!

Thats the spirit Conor, it aint over til the fat lady sings!!!! While I think it would be galling to go through the whole process and not get in, I am quite prepard to try and try again if not successful this time. But gonna give it everything I can this time to give myself the best chance.

Heres a totally random question, if you do start at Hotel Garnerville are you in uniform every day in class??
I'll have to shift a bit of weight off my ass, those trousers are not cut in a very forgving way LOL:p

Yea the support team advertised for role players a couple of days back and they want ordinary people for this post so I applied for that because yea it would be fun and I'd get a bit of inside knowledge and they pay is good (£10/Per Hour) considering you don’t do any training!

If I pass my IST ill discontinue my application for the role player post with conflict of interests and what not. .

I’ve been waiting for years to join the PSNI and only done A-Levels to pass the time until im 18 and now (provided I pass IST) I have to wait months before I hear anything. Such a long process! I’m left with the decision to either go to Uni and get my degree because I’ve been accepted into criminology courses which will help me get into the PSNI and help me when im in etc or do I just take a year out and work in the hope that I make it in this campaign?? Hard decision!!

Ciaran, if this is what you really really want to do then I say stick at it, sure the recruitment process is a lengthy one but you can keep your options open, I wouldnt discount uni or anything at this point, if you do make it thru C14 and into Hotel Garnerville then you just quit whatever you are doing at the time. And to be honest I dont know how much of a advantage a degree would be, from what we've been reading here about the recruitment process, your type of degree would really maybe only be advantageous once you were actually in the PSNI ad after the two years were up and we were free to applu for other depts within the force.

We have it all to play for my man, unlike me you have youth on your side tho!!!! LOL

    ( Pushes zimmer frame away....)

37 aint that old Mrs Genehunt, and belated birthday greetings!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,012 ✭✭✭MrsGeneHunt

Have just read back over my old posts - typo!!! Am 36 not 37 and not even 36 yet, not for another couple of weeks (does that smack of desperation at not wanting to get older????!!!!!)

Hoping that the age and life experience thus far will be an advantage in the recruitment process. Fingers crossed!!!

Thankfully tho I think another couple of posters are in similar age group to me, Edzzy, Mickey2186 etc so dont feel too bad...

Whats the status with your campaign, you in/out or simply shaking it all about ? LOL

Cheers for the advice MrsGeneHunt, :D

Yea that’s probably the best option I think youth is a disadvantage though but you’re right we have it all to play for! Yea true the only time you get to mention qualifications in the application process is when you select what qualifications you have and then they don’t seem to care too much about that! Anyway when I get i be it C14, C15 or whatever I can always do a part-time degree if still feel one would be beneficial!

Hello to the successfull campaign 13ers.
Just wondering how recruitment contacted those who were working 9-5? I'm getting a little ahead of myself 'ere but worried that recruitment may not easily contact me over the phone while working. Has anyone simply heard news of a job offer from a letter only. Gemmat? Did they ring your mobile?

I wonder what is the earliest date they will start selecting for the May25th intake? I guess if they've offered places on the May intake for some who can't make March/April intakes, then recruitment may have lists of names started?
