I've been following this for some time and though im very nervous about the whole thing i decided to just go for it!!
I'm female as well so maybe it will go in my favour!! Im in a same sex relationship so was glad to see an option of that on the application!
I've only just bought an apartment here in dublin so it'll mean moving us both if i am successful so a lot of thought has gone into it!

Thanks to everybody who has imputted on this thread its been great!

Maybe il be lucky to meet you all in C14!:)

Already at disadvantage because your not RC ? Mrs JeneHunt , dont quite understand what you mean.......everyone goes through same process and its structured that way for a reason......

If were all good enough we will get in......regardless........

    Good luck to everybody !

All this talk of Campaign 14 is slowly destroying all my hopes and dreams of Campaign 13.... is it a lost cause? :(

Wish i was feeling as fresh and optimistic as some of you newbies  Loved that feeling!

It's an emotional roller coaster - tell you that much :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,012 ✭✭✭MrsGeneHunt

    Hi Edzzy

Sorry mate, maybe didnt articulate that all that well, meant that chances are already slashed by 50% right from the off, and harsh as it is, being non RC may just be the deciding factor between me and someone of level pegging at the end of the process?

Its not a defeatist attitude by any means, but I am a realist.

That said, I am gonna knock my socks off trying to get in!!! :D

    Hey Shamanic,

I noticed you said you are glad the application allowed you to say you are gay etc but im not sure if recruitment actually get to view that information as I think its just for equality monitoring purposes. Im in the same situation and obivously if it was an advantage that would be great but Im not sure if it is?? I did see though on the bbc newsline website a while back that the psni wanted to increase the number of gay serving officers so im not sure. .

I dont know if its an advantage.. but i do know that colleges etc require a glbt liaison officers here in the ROI so it may go in our favour. Nevertheless i was just glad because i hate filling in forms where there are restrictions and can end up saying your single just to get around the formality and having to back track if they asked for next of kin etc.

i know that there will be an intake on the 25th May,i was meant to be starting on the 16th March but i am finishing my degree so i had to get it deferred,so don't worry too much there are still plenty more intakes on the horizon.

Thanks for your kind welcome...... no date as yet for IST, I applied by post and got acknowledgement postcard back ok.Hope that the Easter hols have just slowed things up a bit with a date etc.......

    will let you know.
Hi pathway and welcome to the board, another newbie and C14 hopeful - good to see! Do you have your date yet for your IST, I applied online on the first day and had date for test within a week, so, so far impressed with Consensia!!

I am a bit worried about being non RC, and therefore already being the underdog, so to speak. Hoping the boobs ( as well as the brain naturally! ) will be beneficial as women are apparently being sought this time round.

This forum is awesome as far as getting info on what to expect at the various stages of the process, have started reading from page one!!!

Good luck on your application, I'm hoping we can get a wee C14 applicants gang together LOL
    :D

Ciaran2008 - thanks for the essay mate - and yes it helped!! Trawling my way thru all the previous posts in an attempt to glean as much info as possible on the whole process but ****ting myself about the IST - would hate to fall at the first hurdle - but what will be will be, must crack the brain training game on the Wii LOL!!! Am really worried cos I know a mate who failed it twice and I would say she is a LOT smarter than me!
Hoping the life experience will hold me in good stead should I make it to the assessment centre!!
Hope all goes well for you this campaign, its hard not to build your hopes up so I hope we are not disappointed ;)
Try police prep uk its a web site were you can practice tests to prepare you.Dont worry about your mate i had a friend who also failed it and he was straight out of university and i left school at 16(13 years ago:eek:)with 5 GCSEs and i passed.

    Hey there Redsurfer :)

I am in same boat as you - i think it's too late to be called up for 20th April, would mean not even a months notice :( - so May is our next hope?

Have you called for your merit number or to see about vetting or anything?

When did you do medical and send off vetting just out of interest?

    Fingers crossed!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Vetting sent off a few weeks back, now waiting on medical date to come through the letter box. Another fella on here said he sent his vetting off around same time as me and got a date this week.

If i get date for next month sometime what intake would be most likely to get in on, would May be out of reach at this point?

    http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/tests/verbaltest.htm

Anyone who is worried about the initial selection test, try some of these questions. it is timed, and will give you an idea of what to expect on the day.
(This is only the verbal reasoning questions, on the day you do a memory exercise and a mathematical one)

Might help your confidence if you dont know how you will handle these questions

Thanks 4 that goodcopbadcop, I have ordered the book from amazon that has been mentioned on the boards b4 so hoping it arrives 2day.

Fingers crossed for you, must be total sh*te playing the waiting game :(
    Keep us posted yeah?

My test late April so plenty of time to prepare. How long after do we know if we have passed or not?

    Bricking it LOL

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Cheers. Still in this campaign but have also applied for campaign 14.

They usually send out a letter if you fail about 5 days later, and if you pass it takes a little longer usually about two weeks. Then its off for the assesment centre!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,012 ✭✭✭MrsGeneHunt

goodcopbadcop - The book arrived this morning from Amazon, have had a quick look through and seems pretty good so will give it a closer look later.

I suspect the waiting is by far the hardest part of the whole process, especially seeing as you applied in what,June of last year and are still waiting to hear.?...yikes.

All we can do is our best - and hope its good enough LOL

Yeah Applied last june and did initial test last august, and it still aint over one way or the other, be prepared for a whole lot of waiting around and wondering over the next 6 months

What is the name of the book you got, might look into it incase I need to go to another assesment centre.

    Hello everyone,

I have sent my application away for campaign 14 and will keep you all posted how things progress.

Any ideas what success rate is on average? Using some of the statistics on the web, I reckon it to be 10% > 15%.Any ideas?

Currently doing plenty of practice with tests etc and just hope to get a place at Assesssment centre at this stage.:)

Any info on the amount of places this time round?

    How many applications are expected?

PS ...Good luck to everyone starting their training around now!

Hey, I just applied this month too, fingers crossed.

    Hi another newbie here,
Got my date for the IST.....(May)......Mrsgenehunt , you mentioned a book you bought from amazon.
Could you share the name please...Thanks!!!!
needless to say I'm a bit apprehensive at the moment....But like you I've time to prepare.
    This will be interesting.....

First off hi to all the new C14 hopefuls - you're in good company here!!!

The book is called How to pass The new Police Selection System by Harry Tolley et al, I got it from Amazon, think it cost £8.09 + p&p - like I said I havent sat down and gone through it in any detail yet but it was recommended in earlier pages on the boards here - I was so delighted to find a board about the whole process that I read it all right from page one!!! (Yes, I might be a geek but que sera sera!!!)
My first glance through makes me think it was a worthwhile investment.

Anything that will flex the grey matter over the following weeks will be helpful methinks!:)

Hey if your a geek then I am in GOOD company............Got this site bookmarked (now thats sad)........We are all in the proverbial boat together!!!
Now I'm off to make a good investment.....Thanks for the 'heads up'.

    Hey all on Campaign 13,

Found out that I’m through the vetting process and have now passed everything. Feel much better now that it’s all out of my hands and basically up to Recruitment. I'm hopeful that I will get offered a place now since I’ve a good merit pool number and from an RC background.

Fingers crossed I get a call around the end of April for the May 25th intake. Has anyone heard if they are still recruiting for the April 20th intake? I’m guessing they have the full 50 candidates, since there is less than a month until the start date? What is the earliest notice you can get?

Have applied for Campaign 14 just incase… you never know how the 50 /50 selection will impact there decisions. Is anyone else in the same boat as me? (Passed all the selection criteria)

Good luck to all on Campaign 14

    Cheers all,

I just plucked up the courage and phoned Vetting directly! It’s not advised since they sent out letters asking us not to contact them unless necessary, but couldn't wait.

The guy had simply confirmed my status.

    From the North.:)
