In regards to the post about being selected if you have a licence, I applied for campaign 14, got my letter from consensia and in it was a survey asking questions about how long people have had their licence and what year they passed.

It indicates that perhaps the Psni are looking for more licence holders, I dont think it will affect much but you never know. A police officer who can drive is of more use than one who can't.

Really? What else did this letter say? I don't think i received it. I have now completed everything for campaign 14 so would like to think that i have received all paper work by now.

I didn't ever think that having a License would influence the recruitment process - it was more once you got in with regard to training and where you get posted.

Did anybody else get this letter??

i did. it came with your date for inital selection test for the next campaign.

basically says that the PSNi have asked consensia to carry out this survey in order for them to determine how much training they will be required to give in the future.

would i be right in saying that like me you've completed everything for campaign 13(not 14)... 14 is the new campaign and this letter seems to be a new addition to the recruiting?? could be wrong though!! ;);)

It was just a survey form that asked if you passed your test before or after 1997 and if you have it 2 years or more i think.

Nothing serious, its anonymous and is just for gathering information.

Still it does show that they are taking an interest into who has a licence.

Just another quick question about pay. I start on 20th April, when do you think my first pay day will be? Maybe they'll mention pay arrangements at our induction night? I was surprised not to have received anything in writing by now about salary and allowances, etc...

Hi all, I read in an earlier thread about contacting vetting dept directly for info on the progress of my security clearance. Does anybody know their extension number? I take it they're at Seapark too?

Also, after reading the comments above about blood testing. The drugs test (hair sample) has only come into effect in campaign 14. Urine is always taken to check protein/sodium levels etc... to ensure you are 'healthy.' There is no blood taken during medicals.

    Hi everyone,
First off, new here, and so happy to have found such a valuable source of info!
Huge congrats to all those starting Hotel Garnerville in April - so jealous!
Have applied for C14, have initial test late April and have loads of questions... so I'll get stuck right in:-

Whats the test like and the questions in it are timed right?
In real terms, if we have applied for C14 and get accepted, when would we be starting training?
    Whats the Assessment Centre involve?
    I'm 36 - am I too old?????

Good luck to all waiting to hear and to all applying for 14 - We wanna be in that gang LOL !!!

    Hi MrsGeneHunt,

    1. The tests are timed and are designed for you NOT to finish to add to the pressure.
    2. There is no guideline for when you may start training, it can vary due to your assessment centre score (merit rating) medical history and obtaining your security vetting. All of these differ between individuals, sorry!
    3. The assessment centre involves a written exercise, a situational interview where you have to verbally answer hypothetical questions and 3 role plays testing; respect for diversity, community and customer focus, effective communication, problem solving, personal responsibility, resilience and finally, team working. Each competancy is tested more than once throughout the session.
    4. 36? No certainly not.

Have you looked at the consensia or psni websites? They give you enough information in relation to all your questions. I would only suggest that you be honest and be yourself throughout. If you try and be the person you think they are looking for you will struggle.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

Everything he said, with one addition to #1.

They are designed to be stressful, and to put you under pressure. You should TRY to finish them, even though it's very very difficult. The questions get progressively harder and they want to see how you work under pressure.

    Good post JVB.

You'll be paid on the 30th of April. They usually get you to fill out your bank account details either on Student Registration Night, or on your first day in Garnerville.

    Hey,

Im basically new to this form aswel but I have read the whole thread twice and I have to say you will not find as good of information anywhere else online and that includes the consensia website. I recommend you do the same and trust me there are no questions left to be asked that haven’t already been answered a couple of times on this thread so your right it is a valuable source of information.

If you applied online information on how to access the IST mock on the consensia website would have been supplied with the dates for your IST which would have arrived by mail. If you applied by mail then I think they would have sent you a mock IST which will help prepare you for the real thing. This is my first attempt at applying as I have just reached the minimum age which is 18. Yea the questions are timed and I recommend you buy a book called ‘how to pass the new police selection system’ as it will shed more light on what to expect and it will provide you with a very good insight into the assessment centre etc. If you Google that title you will notice loads of sites sell the book and the RRP is around £9.99 so it’s definitely a great buy for anyone seriously considering the PSNI as a career.

As far as I know (open to correction) they will be taking in around 440 new recruits from campaign 14 (campaign 15 will be launched in April 2009) so from September candidates who have passed all tests (inc medical and vetting) and have been selected from the merit pool start training in September and more will be selected every 4 – 5 weeks until the 440 quota has been reached which may take until April 2009 but again im open to correction so please do if im wrong here because I don’t want to be misleading anyone.

    http://www.selectnip.org/indexREGapp.asp?id=reg_appl_docs.asp
    (link to mock IST test)

No way are you too old and anyway they wont decide based on your age as it’s a very fair system and the candidate is awarded points etc during tests so your age will never come into it. Personally I think you stand a better chance as you will have a lot of life experience which will prove extremely beneficial during the role play scenarios at the assessment centre. If it helps I know of a person who started training around one year or two ago at the age of forty and im sure there are a lot more. Hopefully some of the new recruits who have started training can shed some light on the age range this year.
If you are successful in this campaign the PSNI can expect around 15 – 20 years service from you and if you get promoted to inspector or above during your career this number will obviously increase. I downloaded the equality monitoring form from the PSNI website and over 50’s have been appointed in previous campaigns so this being the case I don’t think 36 is a problem.

I don't believe your age will make an impact. You're just a number to them when you're being graded. It's a fair system, and relies on how you do in tests, etc. At no point are you directly interviewed by someone as to your motivations for joining the PSNI etc. And as long as you meet the age requirements - that's all that you need.

Hope my ESSAY was benefical lol!
You will get some great help on this thread ad who knows you may be working with some of these people some day! ;)

    Campaign 13

Has anyone heard from Vetting recently?
I'm resigned to the fact that the April 20th intake is not for me. Vetting is taking ages.

I was told by vetting that candidates are still phoning them even though we were advised not to. The guy in Vetting had mentioned it was not cool to phone but he did seem ok when I last phoned a few weeks ago.

My vetting is well within the Merit quota but I’ve not heard a thing. Worried that people above the 440 merit placing are getting job offers before the people who actually have lower merit numbers? i.e. 700s

If you pass vetting are you guaranteed a place?

    hey,
i think a couple of us in here are in the same boat!! yeah i reckon the 20 april is out of our reach at this stage!! unfortunately..
I think as long as your in the low numbers in the merit list, and pass medical and vetting then they hold your place even if that means going in next year with the next campaign.. im nearly sure thats what psni and a few others said!!
are you from the south too??
    bleedin gs.. come on!!!!;);)

Does anyone have any info on the current situation regarding changes being implicated in this campaign.

Have sent off vetting a few weeks ago and waiting on a medical date, Merit number was pretty high and thought it would mean being rejected but I am currently being vetted.

If I pass medical and get vetting cleared, do I stand as good a chance as anyone else of being called up?

    No I’m a Northerner. :)

Guy from vetting had mentioned i was in the later stages of processing, just needing internal verification. Its a pity, as I’m sure I would have made the April the 20th intake. Vetting was in from Nov. time.

Seems to be a lot of Southerners applying?

    Hi CooperCop and pedro552,

I've just phoned vetting to chase my own clearance as I have a good merit rating and have passed medical. Problem is they are waiting on replies regarding overseas addresses for me. It's frustrating but the lady in vetting told me what you have both alluded to, in that the psni will hold your place pending the outcome of your vetting. I just have to wait now. Bahh!

    Take care

Sorry i did mean campaign 13 - all the waiting about is making me loose my mind - fair point! Could be a new addition. However if it was in the initial pack i am not surprised if i don't recall it as that was like 9 months ago or something

Ciaran2008 - thanks for the essay mate - and yes it helped!! Trawling my way thru all the previous posts in an attempt to glean as much info as possible on the whole process but ****ting myself about the IST - would hate to fall at the first hurdle - but what will be will be, must crack the brain training game on the Wii LOL!!! Am really worried cos I know a mate who failed it twice and I would say she is a LOT smarter than me!
Hoping the life experience will hold me in good stead should I make it to the assessment centre!!
Hope all goes well for you this campaign, its hard not to build your hopes up so I hope we are not disappointed ;)

Good luck mate, hope we're checking into Hotel Garnerville in the future!!

There's an intake every 5 weeks except for either June/July so the trainers can take holidays.

Sorry if I'm being a pest on the "trying to figure out when I might be starting" :( But if I could find out from PSNI or anyone else which month there will not be an intake in it would help me no end to organise a couple of very important bits and pieces.
The way I figure it, if the intake is every five weeks and we know that there is one on the 20th of April, the following one should be around 25th of May. There seems to be about a months notice given before an intake, so my thinking is that if I still didn't hear anything around late April, AND, IF there is no intake in June, that would give those of us still waiting on vetting the remainder of April, all May and all of June to finish exams, work on the fitness, have a little holiday (to keep the missus happy) , do some overtime to stick a bit of backup dosh in the bank, or, in my case, all of the above!!

'Course, I'll probably fail the bleedin' vettin' on account of bein' a feckin' nort'side Dubliner fer jayzus sake...;)

On the hair test, does anyone know if its deffo just from campaign 14 onwards? Its just that I don't actually have a lot of hair like... on my head anyway... And wasn't exactly looking forward to the prospect of a nurse/doctor or whatever heading south with a scissors and a little bag...

In the latest campaign Consensia have included a form asking questions relating to driving, ie. license and classifications held. This is to make an assessment of what the PSNI will have to cater for driver-training-wise.

I wouldn't panic if you don't have a license, but crack on and get your license sorted in the meantime as its an essential skill ;)

Had exactly the same problem in C13 mate, I mentioned it to PSNI (if you trawl back ages you'll find the post), but basically you put in as much information as you can (fathers DOB, last known address etc.), and attach a letter explaining the situation and you'll be grand providing he's not Carlos the Jackel bin laden or anything.

Check post no. 786 on page 40.

    Hello everyone,

I have sent my application away for campaign 14 and will keep you all posted how things progress.

Any ideas what success rate is on average? Using some of the statistics on the web, I reckon it to be 10% > 15%.Any ideas?

Currently doing plenty of practice with tests etc and just hope to get a place at Assesssment centre at this stage.:)

Any info on the amount of places this time round?

    How many applications are expected?

PS ...Good luck to everyone starting their training around now!

Hi pathway and welcome to the board, another newbie and C14 hopeful - good to see! Do you have your date yet for your IST, I applied online on the first day and had date for test within a week, so, so far impressed with Consensia!!

I am a bit worried about being non RC, and therefore already being the underdog, so to speak. Hoping the boobs ( as well as the brain naturally! ) will be beneficial as women are apparently being sought this time round.

This forum is awesome as far as getting info on what to expect at the various stages of the process, have started reading from page one!!!

Good luck on your application, I'm hoping we can get a wee C14 applicants gang together LOL
    :D
