the multi exposure, the little black thing under the winder, push it back and you can take 2 or more exposures on a single frame, i used to use it in the day to impress people that i could have 2 of them in the 1 pic.....
I was only reading how to get that effect on photoshop recently! :) Now for ya! :D

I hate myself when something is explained simply and logically to me and i still don't understand.

put a card over half the lens to block the view (on a tripod, make sure it doesnt move), take a pic of half the scene with a person on that side, next tell the subject to move to the other side, put the card on the opposite side of the lens, push the black thing in and take the other side.

yogi just take different pics on a tripod and bring them in as different layers and use the eraser, its much easier than doing it on an a1, best of luck

As you can guess from my screen name, my name is Rory !

Originally used a Nikon F301 back in the day when it was latest technology. Even built my own darkroom and developed and printed photographs. (have tried to scan these lately using a Nikon Coolscan IV with not a lot of success - they come up all noise and scratch :( )

Then left it all to one side until I bought a Nikon D80 last August and it has reignited the fun that photography can bring. It must be contageous as my brother has just bought himself a Nikon D60.

During the day I work as an accountant and tax advisor () in Dublin.

Married to a wife who is understanding of my hours spent trying to understand how photoshop works. We live in Drumcondra Dublin 9

Have met a few people from here to date. No axe murderers identified yet.

Have taken a few of various URL="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rorywilliams/collections/72157602509013985/"]cities[/URL] to date but havent focused just on this. Have bought a macro lens lately and must get out and play with it.

Have set myself a target of printing out more photographs and not saving to hard disk never to be seen again. LIke this one of Florence when the camera was only a week old or this one in Paris where I can still feel the cold as I stood on the bridge taking the photo !

I look forward to learning from everyone on here, admiring and getting ideas from their photos and enjoying the friendly banter.

If a hippy looking guy in extravision asks to borrow your camera, don't do it.....ask shakey. Smart photos by the way. Was the dumo one taken from the hill with michael angelos church on it?

Electronics engineer working shifts at the moment , I do landscapes , Architecture , abstracts and the usual macro stuff for fun , and the very odd wedding now and then.

I used to be a die hard film fanatic , but being a gadget freak as well couldnt resist digital when it came along.

Film is taking more and more of a back seat due to development time and basically finding it very hard to get a good place to do them.

    Based in Celbridge.

Xtravision closed down a few years ago so camera is safe ! The Duomo photo was taken on steps on way up to the Michaelangelo viewing point or whatever it is called.

It wasnt actually the hippy guys fault, i just never went back to collect it, then my mate that worked there too was sacked (caught robbing something:eek:) so the hippy guy didnt have a way to contact me (even if he wanted)

Hi! I'm Paul, a postgrad accounting student from Dublin. I've always had an interest in photography, which probably began when I was about 10 with my grandad's 35mm SLR. I suppose it really kicked off when I got my first Kodak P&S and then I followed that up in 2006 with the D50. i'm off to Hong Kong as part of my summer trip this year so I will be stocking up on some lenses that I've had my eye on and hopefully this will improve my photography! I suppose I like landscapes and macro, but I wouldn't limit myself to either genre.

And yes, I would be up for a casual meet and greet!

I'd still err on the side of caution. I went school around there (rosmini),nice people. But even still...caution to be taken. The guy could be a plunketts head.

    Hello,
Well I'm definitely a lurker around here! I've been reading the forum for a good while now but I rarely post (as you can see from my posts count thingy!)
I've always had a passing interest in photography, probably as a result of my brother being big into it when I was young (he built his own darkroom in our garage.) I bought my first DSLR (an Olympus E500) 18 months ago - my main interests are aviation photography and landscapes, particularly panoramas.
I haven't got any photos on any of the photo websites yet, but I keep meaning to get around to that ....
To earn a living, I work as an engineer in Dublin.

I'm a scientist and at the moment I only own a Nikon Coolpix.

I've been reading this forum for the past few months trying to decide what camera to buy.... next week I'm going to get a Olympus E410 and I'm really excited, so I will probably post more after that.

I'm Sinead from Wexford by the way:)

dont worry, my school used to advise us to bring a knife to school for our own protection, never got my phd due to the fact I was flung out at 15

You'd think they'd take the group cert if you were really interested in the subject. Feckers. Dinkies a scientist. She's winning in the coolest job(if vague)catagory.

Hi, I'm John. I'm probably the oldest person here - in my mid fifties. (Only Danny comes close as far as I know). I'm a management type in the organisation that more than any philosophy, religion or political creed has changed the face of Ireland for the better: the ESB.

I've been involved in photography for about 30 years (you'd think I'd have got the hang of it by now).

My interest in photography was piqued by a colleague involved in the (long since defunct) Cork Camera Club. He invited me along to one of their club nights and that was the first time I saw glorious Kodachrome slides projected on to a screen. They blew me away. I was hooked.

After several months perusing Amateur Photographer magazine I decided to buy a Nikkormat FTn, a 35mm SLR from the Nikon stable. Then as now the prices in Ireland were silly and so I took the boat from Cork to Fishguard, the train from there to London, and I purchased the camera at Vic Odden's near London Bridge. I still remember the thrill of first holding such a magnificent instrument in my hands and the wonderful clarity of the prints from the first roll of film I put through it.

Now that I was a bona fide photographer I joined the Cork Camera Club. It wasn't long before the inevitable happened: the split. There were too many old fuddy duddies in the club and too many Mrs Slocum types interested only in showing photos of their pussies (as in "miaow" you reprobrates). So, a breakaway of the young Turks occurred and the Cork Photo Workshop came into being.

That was a great club (even though we were at pains to distance ourselves from the description "club"). I spent many fruitful years there and I learned a lot. In due course the club more or less fizzled out due mainly to us having to vacate the permanent premises we had near Shandon Steeple. A few of the old members still meet and I join them on occasion.

In any event, work and marriage commitments meant that I could no longer devote as much time as I would have liked to the club scene. My interest in photography didn't wane however. I had by now purchased another Nikkormat FTn and a Mamiya 645 with which I did some wedding work. The last film camera I bought was a Nikon FM2 (a great camera but which now lies, with all the other film gear, in my attic, no longer used).

My first foray into Digital was a Canon G5. (I figured that, at the time at least, Canon was ahead of Nikon in the digital stakes). I was hooked on digital from then on and never went back to film. I later bought a Canon 20D followed by 400D as a second body and then last year I splashed out on a 5D with which I do most of my photography now. I *love* digital.

I get a great kick out of photography. The internet has taken the place of the club scene as far as I'm concerned and sites like this, Flickr, Photography Ireland, etc., afford me the opportunity of uploading stuff and getting valuable feedback. They also serve as a stimulus to get off one's backside and out into the countryside.

    And that's me.

Hi, Im Aidan from Cork and I post here quite infrequently but Im a long time reader. In 6th year at the moment (not for long more thankfully, looking forward to June 20th ;)).
Ive been interested in photography since I was pretty young but as a child I didn't really take many due to not wanting to waste film development costs although I did accumulate quite a few p&s film cameras as gifts. A couple of years ago I got some crappy p&s digital from aldi/lidl and then another one when that broke.
Then I finally got sick of the crappy picture quality on said p&s so I basically did tons of research ( I have a tendency to do that) and bought a 400d last summer (After working for the entire summer... as IT Support, yes, Im like most of you ;)

What am I doing next year? Id love to know, Im not even sure what college course Im gonna end up doing... and of course the deadlines are looming in June. One thing I will certainly be doing more of next year is photography! Haven't had my camera for that long so don't really know my niche but Im leaning towards landscapes/old buildings/nature.
I also like taking pics at parties and weddings etc.. I was at a 50th party and a wedding after party recently and I got some great pics using both my 50mm f/1.8 and Tamron 17-55 f/2.8. I wouldn't feel comfortable publishing pics of my family so.. most of what I feel are my best pictures are not up on my flickr/pixie.

I used to be called ab_cork btw but didn't like the nick so I changed it.

Ugh, I think I wrote too much, anyways..

Hi there - My name's Tommy and I'm currently living in the Royal County (Meath) - Only a 'blow in' though - for the last 10+ years - should be naturalised in another 20 or so :D Home town for me is Wicklow which I regularly get to visit and see the folks. I keep promising myself that i'll capture it photographically at some point.

I can't say that i'm overly into any particular 'photography genre' as yet (like many kinds) but i do like portrait photography, and lots of appropriate depth of field in images. I'm not into overly processing images but I think the digital darkroom has its place. I don't despise those that do lots of processing either - in fact I quite admire anything creative through photoshop / gimp as evidenced by lots of talent we see around here from time to time.

I don't know enough to be a photography snob which is probably a good thing around here too  I'm learning and think i will continuously be learning about photography - the day you stop learning is perhaps the day you'll lay your camera down to rest.

Some wonderful talent and interesting characters around here. This thread alone has given a deep insight into those posting and viewing the discipline from what appears to be a vast array of diverse life experience. I find that kinda interesting.

    Regards.

    Hi de hi campers,

I'm des, have been posting here on and off for a while, mostly lurking.

Living and working in Dublin as an IT Project Manager, whatever that means.

Got my first slr when I was about 10 (OM-10, still have it), but only starting taking lots of pics when I got my 350D about 2 years ago for something to do while recovering at home from a broken leg.

Found out afterwards that I used to work with City Exile, but he's the only person I'm aware I've met from here.

Mostly I take 'outdoors' pictures, be it landscapes or not. Generally it's travel photos, (which is a fancy way of saying 'holiday snaps'). Basically anything non-human. Most of my stuff is posted on flickr or pix.ie (see below).

Suffering from a severe lack of time and inspiration at the moment, I'm looking to expand my photographic repertoire a bit (maybe even people!) but not finding the motivation for it at the moment.

    Anyhow, hi to all!

    Hi, Im Eirebear.

Dont let the name mislead you, im actually Glaswegian :) although spent most of my life in Co.Donegal, only recently moving back to bonnie scotland.
(The Central Belt, where we dont have real mountains and stuff...but we do have some great buckfast drinkers!)

I dont really know what to be telling you to be honest....im sure it will come to me eventually

Nice to meet you all :)

I'm Deirdre.. I'm 29, I'm from and living in Leitrim, and by day I'm the IT department (there's only one of me!) in a company of 60-ish. I started taking photos 2.5 years ago (other than snapshots). It all started with the birth of my one and only kiddywinkle, Emmett, and it started with portraits. I expanded from there - replaced my fuji S5500 with an S9600, now have a Canon 400D and a serious problem with spending far too much on equipment. I seem to shoot mainly landscapes but would love to get back to my portrait roots. The problem is that Emmett won't sit still anymore :) I am mostly a lurker. Don't post much because I'm mostly ashamed of what I produce when I look at some of the fantastic stuff on here! So keep it up, they make me aspire to improve :)

Currently using and abusing a Nikon D70, Yashica FXD, Rolleicord V and a Karl Zeiss Ikon Colora.

I've just returned from a trip to Ethiopia so that's all you'll be seeing on my flickr for the foreseeable future ...

Hey I did Physics at Plunketts ... they had some nice girlies on the night courses ... but actually I'm an Aidan's head ... where they told me I could not do honours physics coz I wasn't good enough .. so I stuck two fingers up at the brothers, went to night school at the aforementioned and got the gold medal that year ... bitter ... me???!!! ... not at all ...

Hmmmnn ... sounds all too familiar I too am just back from travelling through Africa with about 3500 RAW images to process  ... so ditto as with Hugh C ... we must meet some time and trade stories of our travels ... I know you did the Torres Del Paine thing too ...

Me ... I'm Simon ... originally from Beaumont in North Dublin ... I have lots of nice gear coz I'm loaded (and I make no apologies for it) ... I make no claims to talent ... just enthusiasm in abundance ... I work in Business Development in the digital imaging industry and my customers include the likes of Canon, Nikon, Sony, SonyEricsson, Nokia, Samsung, LG, Pentax, Olympus to name but a few ... so I get paid to play with all the latest digital photography gadgets ... and the company I work for leads the way in embedded image processing with lots of the best eggheads in our R&D ...

As regard photrography I like to shoot and blog while I travel mostly, this is my real passion ... I also enjoy shooting people and portraits ...

I own a lens baby ... the accessories for which Fajitas and Elven have used more than I (at my request to be fair) ...

I shoot both film and digital ... coz I like to spend time in dark rooms on my own ...

I used to do some sport shooting (being an ardant Leinster rugby fan, Dublin football and Clare hurling (long story)) but I gave it up because I prefer watching it than shooting it ... and to be honest I found it quite dull ...

You can get more about me here - Leinsterman

HI, I'm John, from Westmeath but living in Galway city for the last few years. Working in IT, too.

I shoot mainly nature and landscapes - I'm in the Galway Walking Club which is a good way of discovering new locations [and getting wet]. Recently, I've been shooting the odd wedding picture too, in the guise of poorly-paid bag/tripod/reflector-carrying assistant to girlfriend who does that sort of thing for a living.

    Good to meet you all.

Well I suppose I'll add my two cents.

I'm Matt, originally from Canada (yes, I've heard all the American jokes). I had been living in Dublin for the last 3 years, but now I've been dragged down to Stab City which has the photographic opportunities of a dirty bathroom.

I enjoy a little bit of everything when it comes to taking photos, but I mainly enjoy Macro and landscapes. I'm trying to break into the wedding scene, though it seems people here don't get married...

I'll tick the IT box as well. Working for a large multi-national making sure I don't get any appendages removed when I try to services PCs hooked up to large metal-melting machines.

My first camera was a hand-me-down from my parents years ago, but I only seriously got into digital when I moved to Ireland. I have a 400D at the mo, but am counting down the days until my 40D arrives!

@Simon: Nice #6 in your sig... looking forward to the new season?

Hi I am Bernard living in City west. I work in the fire industry for my sins. I was gifted a 400D in september so I am still learning. Need to get a lot more practice as I know I am not getting the best from the camera. However the season for my first love (fly-fishing) started this month so I can see the camera not getting as much use for the next couple of months. I should try harder to get to one of the meets to learn a little more but time is rarely on my side.

It is amazing the amount of IT people here. I'm intrigued by Sinead in Wexford and her sciency job, being a scientist too. Callina, a meet up would be a good idea. Are you part of the swords photography club. I heard good things about them. I was thinking of joining. If anyone is a member of Skerries or Balbriggan groups I would love to get feedback!
