No need to worry theres over 8000 applicants and with the holidays i presume this is causing the delay.

just a quick question do you get paid while in training? and if so how much?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Yes you do. I think its £21,??? a year salary you get in training and it goes up to 24 something after. Its on consensia website somewhere.

Yes you do. The actual salary is here and there is also a special allowance of about £230 per month on top of that as well.

Quick question for PSNI or anyone who might know..? Have passed everything, a/c medical etc and am just waiting for the security clearance. Thing is... the girlfriend is putting pressure on to book holidays. Obviously I can't book for anytime soon in case i get a start date, but was wondering how soon after training can one book even a week off? Or is there a break between the initial 22 weeks and the ten weeks continuation? Also, I think I read in someones previous post that there are months when there are no intakes started (to allow for instuctors holidays), but can't find that post now. Anyone any idea?

Hi, thanks to everyone who replied about what to wear to the medical. I'll let you know how it goes . Anyone who applied for campaign 14 I did as well and haven't got a date yet even though i'm still in for 13 so keep cool.

    Howdy! :)

If anyone can shed any light on the above i would be very interested to know also. I am in the exact same position and am busting for a week on the beach somewhere but afraid to book just incase!

If anyone could advise it would be much appreciated

If I recall correctly PSNI mentioned in an earlier post that there is no leave for the 1st 30 weeks - perhaps only in exceptional circumstances (funerals etc.)

    Would need to confirm however.

Hi guys, I submitted a post ages ago cos I'm getting married and will be going on my honeymoon. I think it was PSNI that said would probably have to defer until after that if I got offered a place.

    Hey,

I haven't heard anyone mention that they have been called for the April intake - could be very wrong but all i recall is people talking about the March intake.

Apologies if i am wrong - if anyone has got word on the April intake please let us know!

    Kind regards :)

Sorry - had a quick look back and Fencingj is the only person who seems to have mentioned it recently

Can anyone point a "slightly" unfit 39 year old to a good fitness training programme. The timetable gives August for medicals. Is 5 months enough time for and old guy like me to get fitter??

Im ex services so im not afraid of hard work to get me there.....but its been 20 years since my last basic training hell.

There seems to be alot of younger guys and gals applying. Are there any other old people like me applying ? lol :D

5 Months on a decent diet and a moderate excercise program and you would be flying.............

Start off with small changes and incrementally increase the work load during your training sessions, also vary your workouts, and try to keep it interesting.

    Thats my two cents

Ed - get yourself a chinup bar, to get working on the upper body strength, and get out running. Simple as that. Chinning will build up the strength you'll need for those chucking out time rucks and the running will help with everything else. 5 months is plenty of time if you stick with it.

Get to a gym and do some squats, deadlifts, chins, and do some interval training. keep the diet clean and you will be flying.

yep - that's correct, and I didn't get the youth gig, so am defo on the train for Belfast on the 20th. Have two assignments for college to complete, so between that and the moving and the freakin out and the running hell for leather, I won't have time to get stressed I think!

Does any one know when tattoos are meant to be checked? I thought this would have been done at the medical. Have a tattoo on my forearm and was unsure if it would be accepted due to size. Can i take it all is well now i am finished with the medical?? Another question i have about the medical was why was there no blood test?? Found that very strange, is this to be done at a later date??

    alright ed,
everyone who has given you advice is correct, best thing for you to do is push ups for upper body (start of with a low number and work your way up).. also running, do interval running(ie. run for 3 mins, walk for one min) thats until you get some base line of fitness, then try increase the running to 4 mins and keep walking for 1 min. increase as you feel able...
hope this helps and best of luck mate!!
ps. try get yourself a training buddy cos the hardest thing about training is putting on the tracksuit.....
    good luck

    alright jim,
as far as i know the tattoo checking should of been done at medical.. i dont have any so cant be 100 percent though...
about the blood, i think i recall someone saying they take a hair sample to check for drug use etc, this is the best way as the traces stay in hair for longer, but again dont know why it wasnt done at medical... maybe someone in here will be of more help to you???
ps heard anything from gs yet??
