Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yup, thats with the ASUS P5E-VM is an animal! Most users on [H]ardForum have got atleast 480-500fsb, afaik the G35 chipset is almost identical to P35 chipset except it has integrated DX10 graphics
There was a G45 version announced at Cebit too so it will be interesting to so how it performs...0 -

The Q9450 is 320 euro on Komplett without shipping and they have no stock
the X3350 is damn tempting now, the penryn quads use substantially less power than the kentsfields too, closer in power consumption to an overclocked E8500 than an overclocked Q6600..

Ok so i was hungry for some modding and my Lian Li PC7 Plus was on top of my locker so...
I'm gonna make the smallest full ATX, watercoolable case i can, Its gonna be a cube design and have a slightly larger footprint than an ATX motherboard, I will re-use as much of the original case as I can and I will probably get an aluminum shell / cover made at a local fabricator...
If this works well, I just saved 220 euro! If it fails miserably I will buy the Qmicra

The GFX template is a 9800GX2 and the other template is a Swiftech MCR220 rad with 2 120mm fans... So if it fits a 9800GX2 it should fit anything
Im just going to pop rivet it back together, I will use as much as the original panels as I can and get some made, but folded aluminum fabrication is really cheap, like 10 euro for a piece to cover the entire machine0 -

Thats not where it wont fit, It wont fit between the top of the I/O shield and the edge of the case, and I may need the first expansion slot depending on Motherboard
I'm going to position it as is in that picture, except upside-down, so air from the PSU never enters the system and it always has cool, outside air...0 -

Seen as I will be watercooling the CPU and there would be very little airflow around the Mosfets / Power Circuitry etc.. So I was gonna put a 80 or 120mm fan above the CPU Block to cool all those components, If the PSU is upside down there wont be turbulence between the fans etc, and I don't think the PSU fan alone would be enough airflow to cool the components...
I think im going to use it as a small ATX tower, it has a much smaller footprint that way

My budget is now reduced a lot slightly because I bought some goodies...
Anyway, I may have to scrap watercooling, move the PSU to where the rad was and get some nice Thermalright heatsinks, Seen as the main aim of this project was portability air cooling may be better in the long run...
So revised spec:

yeah, thats the one main drawback of the HD555 cans, I have a pair myself, the sound out of them is simply amazing, but to achieve this they needed to make them open air to stop earcup resonance. But once you make cans like this it means that if sound can get out then sound can get in. It can be irritating wearing these headphones in a noisy room as they aren't sound canceling at all. Still I wouldn't go back to closed air cans, the sound quality is a lot inferior imo.0 -

Time to get this show back on the road!

I am using my old Lian Li-PC7 Plus as the skeleton, its light and sturdy, the front will be made out of perforated stainless steel like this
There will be cathodes and superbright LEDs on the inside shining out through it, and i'm going to make 4 circular feet from a block of perspex and set a superbright LED into each one so they glow underneath the case The feet also hold the shell onto the skeleton...
Still undecided on colour theme, Orange and Green are strong contenders
The case will be made out of a single piece of folded Stainless Steel, I'm going to try get the stuff thats polished to a mirror finish, If I cant, I will leave it matt or try polish it in the future.

The Sapphire 4870 was out of stock so I settled for the Club3D version, The Thermalright Ultra Extreme was out of stock too so I got the IFX-14, its a great cooler and beats the TRUE in a lot of cases but it was almost 10 euro more expensive.. There is a 38mm gap between both towers so I got a 1200rpm 120X38mm Scythe S-Flex to go in there
Here it is mounted on the IP35 Pro
I have very little room to play with in that corner of the board so if it doesn't fit I will mount it this way:
Got a 122 million and one in one card reader also and i will try integrate that into the build somewhere, I want to try and leave the front panel untouched so I will have to mount it on the back or in the roof maybe
Also Im not using an Optical drive, I rarely use an optical drive so I will just run a SATA and a SATA power to the rear of the case so I can use a burner when needed, I might even be able to use eSATA?
I bought a 4gig OCZ atv USB stick (38MB/s read) also
A. Because I need a new USB stick and
B. to Install Vista very quickly and without the need for an Optical drive
I am delighted with how little it cost! The HWV order came to 490 euro, I got the Q6600 off ebay for 120 euro, the ram was on offer for around 70 euro and I got the board for "free" off Komplett as a replacement for my discontinued AB9 Pro....

It will be made from one piece
I have a feeling the polished stainless steel will be crazy money but the standard stuff should be reasonable enough, anywhere between 30-80 euro i'm guessing because there isn't much work to be done, a handful of easy cuts and 4 easy folds. When I get a quotation I will let you know
The case looks really big in the drawings buts its actually going to be tiny! Definitely qualifies as Small Form Factor! Here it is beside the stock PC7 PLus which is a pretty small case anyway0 -
Just dropped the plans and the skeleton into the fabricator, He said it will be finished by this evening, He had no mirror finish stainless steel so I went with a textured / brushed finish that looks very like anodized aluminium

Collected the shell this morning and I just lined it up with the skeleton, fits perfectly

I have to get aluminium angle bar to strengthen the skeleton and build PSU / HDD mounts and a fan mount, and I need to get perforated sheeting for the front and get it folded..
I bought some awesome Bulgin Stainless Steel push buttons for Power on and Reset
Only 7.50 each delivered from ebay which is great as these can cost as much as 20 euro from electronics shops like Radionics because they are "vandal proof"
Anywhoo time to start riveting the motherboard tray back in but I can't so much more until I get some angle bar0 -
