Nah, the only thing worth keeping in mind when using iTunes is choosing to install updates when they're available. Always be weary of updating!

What do I need to do to bypass the stealth sim?

    Mac based.
Best thing to do at the moment is upgrade to 1.1.3 and then use Ziphone 2.4 or Independence to activate jailbreak and unlock

Independence is better but it takes longer as you have to put the installer on yourself

If you want to go to 1.1.4 then do not use Ziphone 2.5 as it will only unlock the phone if you downgrade your bootloader

Hi cdebru, about to do this as I cant handle the no sim card message.

If I upgrade to 1.1.3 from my 1.1.2 (unlocked) will the phone still work or will it brick?

As far as i know if you update to 1.1.3 you will have to re-unlock the phone.

I was on 1.1.2 and upgraded to 1.1.4 and jailbreaked & activated using ziphone 2.5 then unlocked using ziphone 2.4 - phone is working grand now but be careful when doing it! I had a big scare doing mine!!!

Think cdebru recommends using independence or iplus if you can rather than ziphone & he seems to know what he's talking about so i'd say take his advice!

These guys know the phone back to front and inside out they also have hacks that they have up their sleeve. Apple closes one as they have for the one Ziphone uses they take out another that they have not published yet which Apple is unaware of. And of course they have probably found some more holes that apple have created while trying to close the old ones and implementing the SDK.

Cat and mouse as they say although getting harder to tell who is chasing who..
Its a pity apples greed stopped them from just selling the Iphone as an unlocked phone that you could choose whoever you wanted as your provider you can only imagine how many they would have sold at this stage..

The amount of wasted resources in trying to lock it down Apple could have made plenty of money on the hardware and the third party apps

Ok you have a couple of options

You can upgrade to 1.1.4 just use Itunes you actually restore to 1.1.4 quickest way is to download 1.1.4 first then use Iplus2 that will downgrade your bootloader to 3.9fake blank and unlock the phone for you so you can throw away the stealth sim

Or you can restore to 1.1.4 and use Independence on a MAC that will activate and jaibreak and unlock but willl not downgrade your bootloader

If you want to use Ziphone do NOT use the do it all button if going to 1.1.4 just use 2.5c to Jailbreak and activate then use 2.4 to unlock all in the advanced options
That will also not downgrade your bootloader

One thing I have to say about this Cdebru is that Apple needs a carrier for the phone and I'd imagine that to get AT&T they had to guarantee them exclusivity. The only way to do that was to lock down the phone.

I do agree that their greed played into it as they get something crazy like 40% of the revenue for every customer AT&T signs up.

cdebru is Ipus2 mac compatable, I cant find it on google?

So to clarify, if I restore to 1.1.4 (phone will then be a brick right)

then run independence to activate, jailbreak and unlock ?
does it matter then that I am still on 04.02.13_G (does this mean I am boot loader 4.)

I really don't understand this whole bootloader business.
Why do people want to downgrade it? Is downgrading required to install third party apps?

I could be wrong.. and probably am!

BUt I think downgrading the bootloader was necessary for a short time.. think there was a problem with unlocking and activating phones running the 4.2 BL for a while, but that has since changed.

cdebru will correct me if i'm wrong.. and more than likely am.

    Your half right

Originally the 4.6BL could not be unlocked at all the only options were a stealthsim or a hardware bootloader downgrade to 3.9BL

3.9BL is much more hackable because of an => sign in the code means that the current secpack or a newer secpack can be used to when writing the baseband

4.6 only has > so the current secpack cannot be used and we had to wait for a new one ie the one that came with 1.1.3 update.

So for 4.6 bootloader phone the only baseband that works on them is the one from 04.02.13 so you can move up to a new OS version like 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 but your baseband stays at 04.02.13
Which works fine but it does not support locateme for example but for basic phone operation it does the job.

However there is now a way to software downgrade the bootloader to 3.9 this means that you can like all the people on the original 3.9 have the current baseband on your phone.

However the first released version of this by Ziphone is a one way street you can downgrade but you cannot comeback up so if anything goes wrong you are stuck on 3.9

This is where Iplus somes in it uses what is called fake blank 3.9 which allows you to go back to 4.6 should want/have to.

Iplus2 is mac compatible it is all the one file so you just get the one version

www.hackthatphone.com have a tutorial and and links to download it

If you restore to 1.1.4 the phone will be locked and unactivated (brick is a different thing)

You could also use Independence it is longer and a little more complicated in that you have to get the installer yourself it will not downgrade your bootloader

Again www.hackthatphone.com has a tutorial and links

if you use a stealthsim you are 4.6BL

Why did they need a carrier

Haven't we all bought them without the need of an official carrier They already have a distribution network in the US. There is absolutely nothing other than greed tying them into carriers.

The phone works fine without the need of an offical carrier the only thing AT&T did was support visual voicemail but O2 here are not supporting it.

Apple have actually shot themselves in the foot the millions of people who jump through hoops to unlock hack and bypass the official carrier shows clearly that without exclusivity the iphone would be selling multiples of its current numbers.
honestly if anyone could walk into the CWP and buy an iphone and use it on whatever network they wanted without all the ****ing about how many more would they sell compared to the numbers they are going to do with O2 and those of us bothered enough to hack it.

Also the exclusive deals are stifling advancement in the iphone including the move to 3G. The carriers don't want a 3G phone till they have squeezed the market for this version.
Because of the contract they know as soon as a 3G is announced the sales of current ones with 18 month contracts will dry up.

The real money is in the songs the movies and the apps not the phone calls.

I agree whole heartedly with cdebru! I know at least 5 or 6 people who want to buy iphones but havent because they dont want to bother risking the whole unlocking process and dont want to be tied to o2. On top of that I know a friend of mine who was looking to get them for his whole company but their account is with vodafone & they dont want to switch to o2 so no iphones for them either! I reckon if (or when) they sell them sim free they will sell a millions time more than they are doing right now!

i could be wrong but my understanding is that they are making way more by being tied to a network than selling them sim free,
afaik they get money from o2/at&t every time someone signs up to a new contract on the iphone and they also get a portion of the monthly contract aswell, for the whole 18/24 months of the contract.
people unlocking the iphone is costing them millions in lost revenue from the contracts.
i doubt they could make more money by selling the phone sim free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 283 ✭✭moorele

I'd say your right with regards them making more from the contracts - that goes back to cdebru's point about greed! But I reckon they'd physically sell more phones if they were sim free than if they are exclusive to a specific carrier... considering what they make by just selling a phone and comparing it to what they make by getting a % of the contract - the latter most likely outweighs the former hence they've chosen to take a % of the contracts!

Does anyone have a copy of iWorld so I can manually put it on my bosses iPhone? It doesn't show up in the installer but isn't installed on the phone either. Thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭dlane99

if its not showing up on installer you need to add a source that has it:
afaik its available on the conceited software source:

    Conceited Software: http://www.macminicolo.net/conceited/iphone/cache.plist

Some other sources you might be handy:
    BigBoss: sleepers.net/iphonerepo
    ModMyiFone.com: modmyifone.com/installer.xml
Ste Packaging:http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/ (make sure you include the last /)

    (from http://appleiphoneschool.com/sources )

Thanks for that but it still doesn't show up. In the categories section, there is no Tweaks (1.1.2) folder didn't iWorld used to be in there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭dlane99

looking at the xml for the conceited source it appears to be in the tweaks (1.1.1) folder,
description still says its a fix for the 1.1.2F/W so its prob safe enuf to try and install it ?
    usual disclaimers apply ;)

Is anybody following what is happening with Firmware release 1.2? I see dev-team have cracked it already, but will they release it before june? Is it ready for release yet even?
Would be amazing if they would release it, PEAP support FTW!

Edit: Word has it they won't release it, as it would leave devteam in a really bad standing with apple, apparently they are super-strict on thing leaking before they should.

Was in o2 experience on grafton today, they have a load of stands set up for the iPhone tomorrow. Was tempted to sit mine down on one of them and take a photo but I figured the staff wouldn't be too impressed :D

Hey, was just wondering does anyone know if you can go into an O2/Carphone warehouse store & buy an iphone without signing up for a contract? Is it the same as in America where you activate via itunes? Will the likes of 3G & other apple product suppliers have the iphone? Would you be able to buy it from them without signing a contract? A friend is considering buying one but doesnt want to sign the contract, so was hoping to unlock it & stick in her meteor sim.

i dont think so, AFAIK you have to pay the 1st month of the contract up front and sign it in store, not sure how it works ordering online though, might be worth checking that out
