So if we used ZIphone 2.5, is there nothing can be done now to upgrade the bootloader? Will a full restore and re-unlock work?? Or is it possible to upgrade the bootloader after using ziphone 2.5.

No there is no current way to upgrade the 3.9BL that Ziphone puts on the phone

A restore will only restore your firmware not your bootloader

Ok so I'm gonna get an iphone in a few weeks - cdebru- after reading about the cons of the Ziphone downgrading the bootloader (or baseband whatever the heck) can you recommend another safer way to software unlock it? I'm fairly pc literate so don't need a one click GUI?

    thanks

ZiPhone clearly states this when you start up the program (latest version)
This option will downgrade the baseband bootloader on 4.6 BL phones (112+ OOB).

It's not as if it's a hidden, nasty surprise waiting to pounce on unsuspecting users.
The issue is bringing people down a one way street without any warning maybe it will never make a difference but my advice is not to take the unnecessary chance.

And my advice (and many others) is to go ahead and use it. Especially if people are not especially comfortable with going through the various other steps with the other unlock options. This has enabled so many more people to buy the iPhone and do it themselves.

As I said, it works and has been proved ever since it came out. the Phone becomes unlocked and only if Apple decided to implement a check on a downgraded bootloader, which I believe they won't, might this become an issue.

It isn't an issue for now.

    Hi lads,

    I'm totally lost these days.

I haven't updated my phone since 1.1.1 came out.

Whats the best way to get it up to 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 without locking it again?

    PC or MAC

if PC then use Ziphone2.5 advanced options to activate and jailbreak

And then use Ziphone 2.4 to unlock

If MAc use Independence There is a tutorial on www.hackthatphone.com

Either of those will leave the bootloader as is

If it is a few weeks away there is what should be the best option by then which is PWNED by the iphone dev team which appears to be custom firmwares.

Similar to cooked roms from the windows mobile OS

hey guys i used ziphone 2.5 without checking did it touch my bootloader, is there anyway of checking what version my bootloader? i'm away from the machine that has itunes on it so i can't connect it to a machine.

i have mobile finder and mobile textedit so is there any file on the iphone's file system that has the version number in it?

i've searched google but it seems only to give me advice on how to guess the bootloader from the modem firmware version which is no good.

Back a couple of pages I gave that info to higster

Simple check if your phone was 1.1.2 or later out of the box and your current baseband is 04.04.05 and your phone is working then you have downgraded your bootloader

If you have already done it there is no point in getting your knickers in a twist as there is nothing you can do about it now just as you did not realise it I'am just making people aware of it. It may be a problem in the future it may not its possible that someone will find a way to allow people to get back to 4.6.
but if you don't have to go down that road then obviously you are better off not if you are all ready down that road then relax it probably won't make a difference.

If your phone is on 1.1.1 then you are already on 3.9BL so the bootloader issue does not effect you

So update to 1.1.3 or restore to 1.1.4 using Itunes then use Ziphone if you are on a PC or Ziphone or Independence on a Mac

well the upside is that you have the latest baseband and you can go up and down the basebands like any 3.9 phone

Everyone probably knows this by now but just in case you didn't.. how to activate the voicemail button on an unlocked iPhone:

    1. Click on your iPhone's phone button.
    2. Then click on the Keypad tab.
    3. You need to then add the following code: *5005*86*171#.
    4. After entering the code you tap call.
    5. This results in the code being set.
    6. Thats all, tap now on the voicemail button and it should automatically call your usual voicemail service.

I don't think they will because apple needs unlocked iphones to make their targets for iphone sales they will not make them on contracted iphones

However AT&T and o2 etc would love them too and might pressure them to.

On the other hand if PWNED turns out to be what it is expected to be then it doesn't matter what Apple puts into its firmware as the Dev team can take it out again

It's not badly written. Thousands have used it and unlocked their phones.

You are scaremongering for some reason. This is to do with a SAFE and easy way of unlocking iPhones.

I would strongly encourage people NOT to take as gospel one members comments on this and instead go to the various dedicated forums and read what many, many hackers and ordinary users have said and form your own opinions.

The ZiPhone method has attracted ire becuase he's wrapped up an unlock package into an easy to use GUI which has brought simplicity to the whole process. There are those who previously had users going through hoops (and in cases getting them to pay) in order to unlock.

Another one on to hammer a helpful member!Cd has helped lots and lots of people fix their iphones. He does this for free remember.

We lost PowerhouseDan cause of strong criticism, we don't want to lose Cd.

Just found an amazing app, called Touchpad Pro - seems to be only just released.
It allows you to use your iPhone as a wifi touchpad and keyboard. The possibilities are pretty impressive - slideshow wireless controller, media center remote, wireless mouse, wireless keyboard...
It makes use of the multitouch, so two fingers scrolls, and pinch zooms in and out.
Only requirement is that it's able to connect to your PC over VNC, so it'l work through my router - and should also work through edge if you forward the ports properly.

It's grand as presumably you'd be the same network.

Oh purrrlease.....It's hardly "Hammering". You call expressing an alternate viewpoint as "Hammering"?!

Fact is there are many opinions on the ins and outs of the iPhone. No one person is the sole guru on it, as I said the forums are out there for people to make up their own minds.

Now, less of the dramatics please.....

Sounds fairly harmless. Do I have to virginise the phone first?

Will it keep the jailbreak aswell or do I have to re-jailbreak it?

When you say restore to 1.1.4 do I just click restore in iTunes. Or do I update and then restore?

to restore to a certain version in itunes, click restore (whilst holding shift) and then select the firmware file you wish to restore to (you must have downloaded the firmware already).

I changed from meteor to O2 today to avail of the free text offer & just checked my account and noticed these texts to 9011. What the hell is it??? How can we stop it?

Morning lads. I posted a query recently about iphone texts to 9011. Moorele replied with same problems. I had to do a third restore on 1.1.4 last night because of a few iphone troubles, weak signal , no mail, now fixed. The important bit - For the third consecutive time after restore on 1.1.4 then jailbreak unlock with Ziphone 2.5(first version)
my iphone starts sending sms. There are no record of texts being sent in the iphone itself but again noticing low credit I checked o2 on-line, verified texts to 9011 @25c per text. When I do restore/update on iphone I always revert to the orginal AT&T sim I do not use my speakeasy sim card. Being aware of these spurious texts after restore I left my iphone on all night with AT&T sim. This morning inserted o2 sim lo and behold immediately started to lose credit.

I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE anyone who did a restore to 1.1.4 then jailbroke/unlocked on Ziphone 2.5 (first version of particuarly) to check there credit OR IMPORTANTLY BILL CUSTOMERS phone o2 ask them to check any SMS texts to 9011 in the last week. Theres a bug around somewhere.

Hey, just to update on the o2 9011 issue - turning off EDGE seems to solve the problem. I was eventually able to log back into my o2 account this morning and theres no more 9011 texts since switching off EDGE.

Obviously though this isnt a great long term solution as one of the main reasons a lot of us have the iphone is for the internet usage. Anyone any idea's on how to sort it?

Also noticed when i downloaded BossPrefs yday over EDGE (so i could switch it off) it cost over €6.... OUCH! (Maybe switching EDGE off will be good for my pocket afterall :) )

Hi. Its definetly not an edge problem. I rarely switch edge on because I know how expensive it is .I try and stick to wifi. Its SMS. Whether its a problem with the prepaid network, Ziphone or iTunes I really don't know. Just to put things into perspective I don't want to unduly worry anyone. These texts to 9011 last about 1 hour at a total cost of around 4Euro then stop. It definetly happens after a restore. Don't worry about a complete drain on your credit theres no evidence of that thank god ,as I say they tend to stop after about an hour it does'nt seem to be an ongoing thing, its only happening after restore.

No virginising is for people on 1.0.2

If you are on 1.1.1 then restore to 1.1.4 download it first Basquille provided a link for it a few pages back
Then hold the shift key on a PC or the ALT key and a MAC and Click restore in itunes then browse to where you have the 1.1.4 file

Your phone will be locked again so just use Ziphone or Independence to Jailbreak activate and unlock

I'm considering buying an unlocked iPhone. I believe the phone is using firmware 1.1.4 and unlocked using ZiPhone 2.5c and BL was downloaded in the process (as we all know ZiPhone does this). My question is will there be any problem restoring the phone as it was unlocked by someone else when I purchased it? Does iTunes keep a restore file only if you sync first with your computer and do you lose this info. if it was prevously unlocked by someone else? Sorry, I'm still a newbie to iPhone.

    Hi Guys,

I remember seeing a post a while back from powerhousedan saying he got his iphone to work with a bluetooth head set.

I've just purchased a Motorola S9 Bluetooth head set, I've managed to get it to work with calls, but can anyone advise if its possible to stream music to it ?.
I know technically this is something which apple left off the iphone but i'm hoping some one might have got around this.

    Thanks Phil

Blueross - your absolutely right! I just checked my o2 account again & there were 18 of these texts sent from 2.10pm to 3.10pm. I just assumed it was EDGE as it stopped around the time i switched it off...

If its not EDGE what do you think is the cause? Its a bit mad the way it happens only after a restore! I take it that once you dont restore again it shouldnt happen again? Still tho its very annoying!
