Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can purchase an iPhone from a genuine sourse without getting into the technicalities of entering into an 18 month contract with o2?

Ms Inquisitive, i see by your sig you're going to boston in 18 days, you should head to the CambridgeSide Galleria shopping mall, they have a Apple store there in which you can buy an iPhone in. you'll be the second irish person (incl. me ;)) that's bought an iPhone there.

i think that shopping mall also has an AT&T store, just say you are buying the phone as a present and the person intends to sign up for a contract when they connect it to their computer; that's of course if they ask :p

anyone know of a way of updating to 1.1.4 without using ziphone, looks awfully risky.

Wondering are there any iphone owners out there on speakeasy. For the last two days my iphone has been sending 16 international texts @ 25c a pop.It doesnt show any out going sms from the phone but i noticed my credit getting low, checked on o2 online saw the charges for all these texts. Its a handset problem not network. Have an idea that its related to upgrading, unlocking jailbreaking on itunes. Every time you upgrade/restore the iphone it lashes out a load of texts to 9011. If you upgrade with a deactivated sim it justs waits until you have an active sim in the handset again and starts texting. Any one else aware of this?

First time i unlocked i had no signal. Had to switch it of then back on for it to work (hold down the power button untill it says slide to power off)

As for installer, can you download anything else (appsupport 1.1.4, community sources, open ssh) or is it just BSD that wont install?

now updated to 1.1.4 using ziphone.

was a breeze, restore to 1.1.4 and click the "do all" button or the button that has that effect.

Hi Guys have not been in here for a while, I see lots of new info, and find it hard to see what I need, appreciate any help

My stealth sim typically once a day moves and shows up as no sim card present, its in a 1.1.2 phone otb from newry with 04.02.13_G firmware.

What do I need to do to bypass the stealth sim?

    Mac based.

ok I have sorted it out now. I tried turning off and on but that had no effect so I did a complete restore again and downgraded the baseband the second time and it has worked perfectly with only one prob I have installed open ssh but the icon hasn't shown up on the apps list

hi all, when I try to update my installer it tells me that I don't have enough free space, does anyone know how to sort this out? I deleted the few apps I had but still have the same problem. Thanks.

Can someone confirm this: I can walk into a shop in the U.S. and buy an iPhone without contract for $399 and bring it here and unlock it without much hassle? And it doesn't matter what network in the US it is set to? And there's no difference between the US and IE version?

Ok couldnt get independence to unlock so used ziphone. According to ziphone 2.5 this worked.

When i check baseband its 04.04.05_G & firmare is 1.1.4. I take it from cdebru's post earlier the baseband is wrong. What do i need to do to correct this & get the phone working again i.e. making calls & sending texts?

Ok despite what Ziphone tells you it did not unlock the phone which you already know.

My guess is that your work network is blocking Ziphone and Independence from going out to the Internet and where independence has the good sense to do nothing in that case Ziphone proving how flawed and badly written it is went ahead and erased your baseband before it discovered it could not replace it.

Simple solution is to go home or to a friends house and unlock it there using either Independence or Ziphone 2.4.

Your baseband will be 04.02.13g when it is unlocked

No there is a little CE on the back of the Irish one:D

Yeah but you will not be able to go legit with your US one here as it will always be a US/AT&T phone

You mean I won't ever be able to un-unlock and go back to the network it was intended for?

I mean that O2 ireland will not let you sign up for an iphone contract with your US phone only AT&T will which is not much good to you if you live in Ireland.

You can un lock it and use it on any network you want (except 3)

Yeah not a good idea you just downgraded your bootloader to 3.9 with no way currently for you to go back to 4.6 if it turns out to be a problem in the future.

(presuming you were on a 4.6 before)

Ok just read your earlier post you had a 1.1.2 OTB so you have downgraded the bootloader

Best thing to do at the moment is upgrade to 1.1.3 and then use Ziphone 2.4 or Independence to activate jailbreak and unlock

Independence is better but it takes longer as you have to put the installer on yourself

If you want to go to 1.1.4 then do not use Ziphone 2.5 as it will only unlock the phone if you downgrade your bootloader

Hey cdebru, thanks a million for all your help. I guessed as much with regards my work network so went straight to a friends after work yesterday and did the whole process from scratch - shift restored 1.1.4 then ran ziphone 2.5 to activate & jailbreak and then ziphone 2.4 to unlock. Worked a charm! I had that issue with the international number format coming up instead of the name for texts but solved that easily enough by downloading the Appsupport 1.1.4 from iclariifed in the installer! Phone is back working a 100%. Thanks a million again! Ur an absolute legend - i owe u one!

I've had an iPhone since early November, 1.1.1 3.9BL

Restored fully to 1.1.3 a few weeks ago using ZiPhone and Anysim.

Then restored to 1.1.4 and ZiPhone 2.5.

So easy now, no issues at all. Important to sync first with iTunes so you can restore your settings after.

No need to DFU the phone now either, or kill iTunes when you;re ready to use ZiPhone. Just do it all and it was done in 4 minutes.

Had to SSH in and change one of the system files to read 1.1.3 to install summerboard and a few other apps. But I see that's all OK now, summerboard is fine and also the AppSuport file is there and ready to install.

I had a mail crash, that was the only issue which a few people have had. Just install Syncfix and it sorts that out.

Once it's done, iTunes asking you if you want to restore your previous settings is a great option. All my Irish stocks, weather settings, Alarms, notes etc etc all restored and my Edge settings etc.

Yes to the $399 bit too, without contract? Where would you get one without contract? If they're $399 with a contract too then why would anyone get one with a contract?

The model is that you buy the iphone which is not activated and you go home and sign up for an AT&T contract and activate it and that you can not do anything with it till it is activated.

However activating and unlocking is a relatively simple procedure so no need to sign up with AT&T

Thats because you are on the 3.9bl anyone who bought after November is on the 4.6BL and Ziphone 2.5 will only unlock those phones if they downgrade the bootloader.
The method that Ziphone uses to downgrade the bootloader is not reversible and there is no need to do it anyway. If Apple include a check in a future firmware for a modified bootloader those people who used the Ziphone method are ****ed as things stand.

If the new Dev team PWNED hack requires only works on the 4.6BL those people are ****ed.

The simple thing is that you should never do something you cannot undo unless you have no other choice and there is choice loads of it

They can downgrade the baseband to 04.02.13 and now there is a method of downgrading the bootloader to 3.9fakeblank which is completely reversible should you need to go to 4.6 for any reason in the future however Ziphone users are stuck on a modified 3.9

If your phone is 1.1.2 1.1.3 or 1.14 OTB then you should NOT use Ziphone 2.5 to unlock your phone end of story

Cdebru - is the baseband downgraded if you use ziphone 2.5 to jailbreak & activate & then 2.4 to unlock? I'm ****ting it after reading your last post, hope to god i havent f!@ked with the baseband....

    Sorry

Just trying to warn people Ziphone2.5 is badly written and badly implemented and worse it does not make it clear what it is doing.

If people want to downgrade the bootloader there is a better way to do it than Ziphone.

If you want to go to 1.1.4 then restore to 1.1.4 then use Ziphone 2.5 just to do the Activate and Jailbreak and use either Independence or Ziphone 2.4 to do the unlock. That will leave your bootloader intact and just downgrade the baseband

If you really want to downgrade the bootloader to 3.9 then don't use Ziphone use this method

    http://acujo.com/tutorials/how-to-downgrade-your-bootloader-with-software-only/

You can also change the GUI on 2.5 using this to see what you are doing http://eziphone.blogspot.com/

But for what it is worth I would wait and see exactly what PWNED is should be out in a few days

Good call, im doing the same. From what iv heard there the same, the only think they put in was 'bug fixes'. I never noticed anything wrong with my 1.1.3 though.
