Yeah, installed that and YouTube / Safari don't seem to be running alright.

Another oddity I just saw there was a link to YouTube in my e-mail and got a message about this video is not supported on the iPhone!

    1.1.4 is out!

Engadget - no problems on jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhone apparently.

From a user over on Engadget:
For the benefit of the rest of mankind... I'm updating as I type:

In iTunes, it seems there is a new-ish cover-flow style for the music videos (though I dont know if this is new)

A new driver is installing itself (Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver)

Boy this process sure is taking a while. About 7 minutes in now, still updating iPhone firmware

9 minutes in.. now the phone is restarting.

    Update is done.

It appears as if there is absolutely no difference between this version and 1.1.3 (though this is probably going to f*ck up jailbreaking again).

This update is rated a SKIP IT

    I do have it installed.

I would've thought Apple would have gone out of their way to ensure the new firmware update would be unbreakable. Especially with the SDK coming out.

Then SSH into the phone and either remove a few apps or replace the installer app or both.

How do I replace the installer app? Do I just delete it but where do i get the replacement installer?

Installed OpenSSH on my phone.. changed the default password ('alpine' IIRC) to my own.

But then when I restarted my iPhone, it's gone into an 'Edit Home Screen' loop.

Any suggestions besides restoring it via iTunes? As I have formatted my Mac since last syncing the phone and I'll loose all my contacts.

You could try putting it into restore mode & then use ibricker or idemocracy to reboot it..
BTW 1.1.4 was released tonight. DONT update yet..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Cheers koolkid but both IBrickr and IDemocracy are Windows only.. am running on Mac here. Have gotten my Contacts off it using SSH (well, I found an AddressBook folder while browsing and assume it is it).

But two problems.. if i restore using iTunes now, it's gonna upload v1.1.4 onto it, right? Don't want that surely!

Two options so: ZiPhone and IJailBreak.

    - ZiPhone link seems to be down..
    - IJailBreak 'Restore' simply prompts you to restore in iTunes.

    HELP ME! :(

EDIT: Also tried re-installing 'Installer' by downloading it from a repository on the Web (http://repository.apptapp.com/packages/System/Installer.zip) and overwrote it using SSH. Restarted the iPhone and still the same! :(

What are you jump starting the car off it:D

Have you reset the autolock to 1 minute

make sure blue tooth and edge and ssh are off if you are not using them

Yep , tried all that . I wonder is the battery consumption tied to the amount of applications loaded ?

On sale through O2 Ireland from 16th March (I think)

OK, so I found out the following from http://iphone.unlock.no:
IMPORTANT: If you just click the restore button, it will restore it with the latest firmware. It's much safer to manually select firmware instead. If you want to manually select a different firmware you can hold down SHIFT key (Windows) or Option/ALT-key (Mac) when clicking the Restore button, and it will let you choose firmware file. Download the wanted firmware here (you would normally want 1.1.1).
So if I press the Option key when I click 'Restore' on iTunes, I can choose the firmware to install. Is it still necessary to go all the back to v1.1.1? When I bought the phone and performed the unlocking / jailbreak process using ZiPhone last week, I presume it didn't have v1.1.1.

Am downloading the v1.1.1 firmware file now (filename is 'iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw') and am gonna perform the restore to v1.1.1 this evening.

But if anyone has any other advice on how to fix by problem without restore, or whether it's necessary to go back to v1.1.1 - please do let me know ASAP.

Looks like there's another apple event scheduled for march 6th. More than likely this is the announcement of the release of the SDK

    http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/27/apple-event-confirmed-for-march-6th/

I wonder will the "iphone coming to Ireland" be mentioned ?

    iNdependance is for mac
To restore click shift & restore lets you browse for the file to restore from
The same works for upgrade (for mac is the Apple button I think)
All firmware versions are downloadable here

ZiPhone is promising an update in 3-4 days so that might be worth waiting for.
I have a mac & pc. If you want me to give it a shot for you.. (No promises though.) :)

Just download 1.1.3 and restore to that via itunes you will not have to unlock the phone just jailbreak and activate

If you are using a mac keyboard it is the option key on a PC keyboard I think it is the alt key

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, downloaded that alright. Not bothered with waiting for the update as I'm without a phone! :D

I have access to a PC alright.

But what I wanna know is can I restore using iTunes to v1.1.3, and then jailbreak / activate / unlock using ZiPhone? Or do I have to restore all the way back to v1.1.1 and then upgrade to v1.1.2 and subsequently v1.1.3?

You dont need a PC mac will do it

you just need to restore but if you do it via itunes now you will get 1.1.4 so download 1.1.3 then hold down the option key (if you a using a standard PC keyboard it is the ALT key as far as I can remember) and click the RESTORE button then browse to wherever you saved the 1.1.3 to and click open

Thats it you should get access to the springboard but it will not be jailbroken yet

Just use Ziphone and select Jailbreak and activate and you are done

You do not need to unlock after a restore as it does not touch the baseband

    Just activate and jailbreak

When I did the restore via iTunes, it's telling me now to insert an 'unlocked and valid SIM' to active iPhone.

Tried to activate using both INdepence and iJailbreak - both gave me odd error messages. Going to try girlfriend's windows with the ZiPhone GUI.
