So... how hard do you think it is to park a car, exactly? If everyone is remotely considerate, takes pride in their driving and doesn't park like a tool, then we don't have a problem. The "I'm in a rush, I'm too busy and important to worry about the effect of my ignorant laziness on other people" response doesn't wash to be honest. Ten extra seconds, and everyone is happy. Can't find a space? Don't make life harder for people by jamming the car any old place, regardless of whether it should be there. You're really not that important. Anyone who takes exception to anything said there is admitting that they don't care about inconveniencing others, but when it comes to something bad happening to them, they get irate, and so, being hypocrites, lose all credibility.

Right I missed that point. I am talking about instances where the "crime" would have deserved or warranted a legal fine or other deterrent, and the vigilante performs a similar act of the same degree. The owner returns and sees that justice has been served, legal or not, and it could act as a deterrent in the future.

In UCD they will let the air out of bike tyres locked in certain places.

Yeah sure he will. I'm sure he will be trilled with summary justice that costs hundreds of euros to fix. Enforced by some busy body who was having a bad day and decides to take it out on the next thing to annoy him.
Oh well, I was wrong, you still cannot grasp the concept of it.

Can you understand the theory & logic behind issuing fines?

Many support the issuing of fines too.

And most will not be thrilled upon receiving a fine too

Lets face it, its more about revenge than punishment.

You can add begrudgery to the above sentence.

By a proper a proper sanctioned authority not some random unilateral action. Big difference mate. We are harking back to eye for an eye mob justice here. Is your need for orderly parking so great you would condone or take part in criminal damage? Get a sense of perspective here.

The punishment justified in your eyes or not is the problem. That is the crux of it. I don't care if some random idiot decides it appropriate or not damaging some ones car like that is out of order. End of.

edit: you keep editing your responses! You've done it a few times already..

LOL would you say the same if your car was keyed. I don't picture many wealthy/educated people keying cars, when I picture a "car keyer" its usually a scum of the earth skanger whose insurance costs more than the value of his car ;)

meh, you may actually make the car look like its been used off road:D:D

2 flat tyres tbh. no damage, just inconvienience, that or double park and leave the aul park anywhere lights on(hazzards):D

^^Voice of reason in an increasingly heated thread i'd say.^^
Retarded parking-> 2 flat tyres-> Inconvenience for prick-> lesson learned.
Keying is an over-the-top response imo and not justified.

Sometimes i'm glad we're not allowed to keep firearems in the glove compartment, especially when assholes in silver BMSs and usually with nordie number plates seem to think that sole ownership of the road was conferred in thier hire-purchase agreement.Women who use massive jeeps to a)go to the banklink b)pick kids up from school c)buy cigarettes should be shot.Whats the point of 4x4s anyway, its not like the primary school is up a fcukkin mountain.

    Oh it's not just suv's...
Sometime, because of others crap parking the only space left is halfway between "spaces" you park there and the others leave - you end up looking like the crappy parker!

Yeah I hate when that happens but the majority of the time its just pr!cks who don't care about anybody else

Sure if you park all over the place you've a pretty good chance of getting rammed by a trolley or a car door.

It's your own fault and there might not be any intent there at all. Tough shit, be more careful when parking in future.

The SUV should have been clamped.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Dinter

I always thought that someone putting stickers or clamps on your car unless mandated by the state or relevant bye laws was actually committing criminal damage.

I got the clamper at Falks Lighting in Terenure to come out and take a clamp off by threatening to call the cops.

Might have been unknowingly bluffing though.

Should that not read "SUV-driver". :p
Seems that's the only way some people here will be happy.

ronoc, personal abuse is bannable. Do not do it again.

    Everyone else: stay civil.

My own view: selfish, inconsiderate, arrogant people who make driving difficult for others should definitely be given a wake-up call. Passive, I agree that woman deserves a brick through her window.
I remember an incident that shocked me. Argos in Cork city centre is on a one-way... "strip" is the best way I can describe it (used to be a footpath, now you can drive through it but it's pedestrian-priority). Anyway, these two girls - utter c*nts - plonked their car outside Argos - just left it there, blocking a whole street during the day in a busy shopping thoroughfare. And even though it's one-way, the car was turned round the other way. And they went in and out of Argos with their boxes. Then some guy politely told them they were blocking everyone and causing mayhem. They just started screaming abuse at him - because naturally they knew they were in the wrong, they felt bad about it, so they took that out on him. The very least they deserved was a brick and a keying.

Allow me to add myself to the list.
I despise SUV drivers and their stupid vehicles.

I stand by what I said earlier. If you feel the need to damage someones property because they violated a traffic law you are at best a coward and and worst a downright criminal.

It is attitudes like yours that manifest as road rage.

I find it I ironic you are asking people to stay civil when at the same time you condone crimainal damage against people who flout traffic laws.
Is that not a bit hypocritical?

So keying or bricking a car makes you better than SUV drivers? Alot of drivers are cnuts irrespective of what they drive. Using violence because someone parks illegaly is also illegal.

When somebody keyed your car do you think it was because you were badly parked or just random? Is that why you're so annoyed now?

IMO it's a bit over the top to key a car for inconsiderate parking but then again when I'd delayed for 25 minutes driving into work in the morning because some cnut is parked blocking a junction I'd happily provide the keys.

While i dont like his attitude or his sensationalist comments, i agree with ronoc on 1 point, keying the offenders or vandalising their SUV's is not the answer.

The car park attendants should have clamped that SUV. Did the OP report it to the car park people?

The type of car doesnt dictate road behaviour, the driver does. However SUV as a vehicle are not necessary on the road.

    LOL @ "regardless of gender".
    Funny you say that.
Studies have indeed been done showing this to be true.

Above studies may not have actually been done at all

in cases like the op's post i would return to my car and get my pen and paper out and leave them my usual ''your a fu<king <unt, learn to park and stop being an arsehole'' message under their wipers.
