Anyone know of an XPS M1530 offers? all the offers seem to be for Inspirons and Vostros....

Even a 50 euro off coupon would be nice :D

Just got the XPS M1530 in PC world, 30% off if you're one of the first 5 customers in the store. Offer applies tomorrow as well. Other wise they're selling at 10% off I think.

Any ideas of how long should be between an order acknowledgement and order confirmation?

Got the acknowledgement last evening, no sign of confirmation.

Monday at least I'd say. They're normally sent out after the payment clears and during office hours.

9 cell batt and 256 mb I had the leaflet for it somewhere but cant remember. Anyway that offer finished this morning. They were also giving away virus protection half price as well, got Norton 2008 for €44.99.

The cheaper laptop for just over €1000 was the one that comes in different colours.

Why on earth would you want Norton. Its worse than a Virus.

Agreed ,a monkey has more chance of keeping your new machine clean.

Anyone know of any codes for XPS??

Does anyone else have the following problem with the Vostro 1000.

Just got a brand new with Vista Business and AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL60.

The fan comes on quite often and when it does it does not stay constant. There is a definite rising and lowering of pitch at about 1 second inervals. This is enough to really annoy, not only me but the others in my office. if it would only stay steady when it comes on that would be great.

We also have the same computer but running XP and the fan noise is so steady you hardly notice it is on at all when it comes on.

Its not an OS issue, tried it with a Linux CD and tried to run diagnostics pressing F12. This says its OK, but i'd like to see if anyone else notices their fan changeing pitch from second to second when it comes on.

It is annoying enough to stop us buying any otherVostros.

Any other laptop we have the fan is on , off or half speed etc. The way this one is going its like its struggling to keep up the speed and keeps slowing and speeding up.

I could be a faulty fan or sensor. Its a pretty common problem, with laptops in general not just Dells or this model. A fan or a sensor is faulty, or maybe they've a bios fix for it. Regardless I'd just get back to Dell about it. They swapped out my DVD drive when I complained about the noise of it. I find email is the best way to deal with Dell support. No problems with accent, and no missed calls. record of everything etc. Its takes a little longer but I find it easier.

Called Dell and after a LONG and hard to understand accent conversation they are coming out to fix it. :D

Well I did say use email...

I noticed this with a laptop I set up for someone ,I put it down to the Amd setup. It wasn't very noticable though ,not something I'd call for warranty on.

Totally put off Dell BEFORE I buy. Tried to get a spec for a home Laptop from Dell and have had no success. Telephone operator had such poor English that we just couldn't understand each other, gave him my email and asked him to send me the quote, 4 phone calls, 4 days later - no quote. Then got the name of a contact which my employer has in Dell, have left numerous messages and no call back. Wd I be mad to pursue this or am I just unlucky? Went to a retailer at w/end and they had a HP Compaq, Presario A900, dual processor, 1.6 gh, 2 gb memory, 160 hard drive, Euro 800, any views on Compaq, they're in stock. Wd appreciate your view

My solution is never use the phone with Dell, just use email and the website. HP Compaq is a decent alternative. Thats a terrible price. 550~600 at most. for something of that spec. But these are budget machines, If you can spend 800 and don't know much about computers I'd go a little more and get a refurb from Apple.

Dell are like Ryanair, when your buying something at no stage should you ring if you are looking for that bargain.

Dell are fine, their machines are no better or worse than anyone elses. The prices are generally better, with some real bargains to be found. Their after sales support is above average, in my experience, typically sending out replacements within the week.

Buying from them is simple if you go for one of the advertised evalue codes. These will normally be processed and delivered within the week.

I hate dell machines for my needs, but I do have very particular needs. For a home machine I would simply buy something that has an advertised evalue code.

Not sure if thats true. Some people have posted how they've got a better deal over the phone. I never have myself.

I would disagree. I usually get an extra 5-10% off when I ring Dell, even when I use the E-value codes.

Yup, same here. Got another bit knocked off my Vostro 1700, along with some free upgrades. That was with an e-value EPP price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,959 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

So if you ring Dell and give them a code for a laptop worth €500, they will knock 5-10% off it?

Or do they suggest upgrades bringing the original price higher and then knock 5-10% off?

    2 complete different things.

As their sales are commission based I find it hard to believe if you place an order for €500 out of the goodness of their heart they will give you cashback.

With all my dealings with them, they have never offered to knock money off unless I am prepared to spend more. Then again, maybe I'm not cheeky enough. :)

Bingo, methinks. Chance your arm and see what ya get, just ask for stuff and see what they say. Juust before I finalised my order they were gonna give me 4 year business cover for €120, they must be working off crazy margins.

My order finished up at €870 before VAT so maybe if you spend more initially you can haggle more.

I agree I got a laptop nearly a year ago which would have cost 1900 online also they had dropped the Nvidia cards at the time which was added on.
