I also noticed the Oirish flag flying outside certain pubs throughout the London area. The English didn't give a fooook about that either - and enjoyed their pint the same as everyone else. I am just wondering what the reaction would be if the Union Jack was seen to be flying outside premises around Dublin ... ??? !!! I suppose some sections of the 'Howya Bud' brigade would shoite a square brick !!!

I dont particularly have an opinion on the matter.. I dont really care... BUT, just in relation to your post, we do not 'shoite a square brick' when we see spanish/french/any other flags waving outside pubs/hotels etc... the circumstances arent the same for the English and the Irish, we did not put them under hundreds of years of depression, maybe I'm wrong but the way I see it is that they have no particular reason to complain about an Irish flag outside a pub in London... whereas we... well... you know.. :D

    Daedulus, you're talking ancient history.

Past atrocities have nothing to do with a flag!

Fair play if she comes over. If she drops by Tallaght, she'll be welcome at my place for a cuppa :D

I had a great few years living in the UK. Was always made totally welcome.

Lizzie, if you want my address, send me a PM :p

Well nearest neighbor is true. Main trading partner? Not by a long shot; this isn't 1955.

    Actually: http://www.cso.ie/statistics/botmaintrpartners.htm (2006)

But anyway, in my opinion she's more than welcome. I'm surprised this is even a topic given the majority of similar responses.

The posts in this thread are unbelievable.

The head of a monarchy that was responsible for a countless number of deaths and deplacements or Irish people should have no right to set foot on our soil. And to say she had no role in anything that happened here??? She's been in throne since the 50's. I guess Ireland was all peaceful since then. And not to mention she has the power to pull troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. **** her and i hope the bitch dies before the date is set.

Bertie said yesterday it will be 'in a few years' the British monarch will visit. Is it the right time? Should we have any visit from the Queen officially at all? Are we over our 800 years of depression yet?:)

Will you be out there amongst the hoards of adoring crowds in Kingstown with your Union Jack?

Bertie will orchestrate it so that her visit coincides with the run-up to the next general election. He will still be in office and it would be a positive publicity coup for him. Remember his "historic" speech to the joint houses of parliament in England having a similar effect last time? What about his tree-planting exploits with Ian Paisley at the battle of the Boyne site?

No matter what negative publicity surrounds the Taoiseach, regarding tribunals etc., he can always dodge it by meeting Ian Paisley, the British PM, or a royal. A visit by Mrs Windsor would definitely be reported as "an example of maturity of relations and harmony on "these islands" and all that blarney.... Bert knows exactly how to win over the vacuous and empty-headed populace, and you have to admire him for this.

Bertie couldn't care less about bad publicity right now. Election time is when it matters, and all it takes is a royal visit and maybe a late late show appearance by a plonker like Eoghan Harris. A photo-shoot with a pair of knacker-named toddlers like Jayo and Rocky always helps too!

Yeah that's why the nazi flag is banned in many countries. ;)

I'm not a fan of the royals, just like I'm not a fan of bush etc. But I'm not gonna protest them coming here nor will I go to support it either.
If the British PM can visit, then so should the royals.

However the the issues between Ireland and the UK will remain due to Norn Iron.

There won't be closure on the that nasty part of history till we get the rest of our Island back.

Ya but's that's because they invaded many countries and took them over, raped and murdered and persecuted people because of their religion and tortured their prisoners

So how can you compare a Nazi flag to an English one. Oh wait a minute  maybe you can!!!

Imagine Hitler finished off his plans and after hundreds of years one by one the countries won back their freedom and Germany went back to democracy and the Hitlers were given a role like the Queen. Would the English welcome a Hitler descendant into England with open arms? hmmmmmmm

Which part is your soil exactly? I don't think she really wants to go there, overwhelming presence of 'retard' I'd say. I don't understand people who consider themselves an 'Irish person' above an 'individual'. Compensating for a lack of personality I guess.

I'd be much much better disposed to the Royal family if they wandered around in medieval clothing waving swords.

I liked the idea of the Queen and Prince Charles wandering around in their palace acting like thy were still in the middle ages and speaking in archaic speech.

The fact they are just a bunch of inbred Germans in bad suits and with big ears made me very disappointed.

If the Queen comes over, I want her wearing a renaissance Fayre tall hat and surrounded by plate-mail clad soldiers.

That will be so mch cooler.

She can come if she likes, see if I care, but I wouldn't bother me arse going to welcome her or see her.

I think a big welcoming reception would be a smack in the face to our ancestors and I can only imagine that it would be people without a knowledge of Irish history and/or the 'OK' and 'Hello' magazine clutchers that would go to see her.* **

    * These may or may not be the same set of people

** I suppose politicians would be out for the 'occasion'. They couldn't miss a photo opportunity

    .

Well, the nazi flag represents an ideal, not a people. You can put the symbol on a stick and call it a flag, but it's not really.

Ahhh, so Irish.... I see the mentality remains the same as it ever did. Bitter, twisted & greedy people.

Oh how I wish I could move back to the UK (London), they are so more advanced in their mentality & attitudes towards others.

On reading through all the posts so far, the vast majority are either for the visit, or don't care either way, thankfully the bitter twisted people are far and few in between now days.
