I had problems with installer on mine, couldn't install iWorld to get the phone/sms working after unlocking the phone using ZiPhone's 2.0 method. So I had to redo everything using the Hotz method - without using the GUI and then the only problem was I couldn't find iWorld on the installer, but if you see my last post to get around that...hope this helps!

everything is working on mine fine...calls....text...the lot so its just the installer keeps telling me file download denied or something to that effect its sssssooooooo annoying at this stage....

it could be that there is no space to download to

You could ssh into the phone and remove some of the apps if you cannot uninstall them see if you can install after that

cd thanks again for the installer file.

Anyone buddy of mine used an old ipod charger on his iPhone (like I did myself a while ago) and now gets no reaction from pc or iTunes when hooks up to pc via USB. The iPhone shows itunes symbol with USB cable "picture" ie what you have on iPhone before you activate it (am I making sense). 1.1.2 phone I'm 90% sure. Me thinks its fecked. Any way for him to get it going without iTunes or a pc?

ssh lets you "log onto" your iphone from your pc (add/remove stuff like programs, apps, ringtones etc)

Sorry benifa but that is nonesense

So you have a problem with the iphone lets say it is no sound ( could be anything but we will use that)

You put the phone back to the way it came and head off to the Carphone warehouse or apple store

You: excuse me my iphone is broken there is no sound from the headphones
Assistant: Ok sir lets have a look at the phone
    You: here you go
Assistant: This phone is not activated how could you possibly know there is a problem with the sound.

And you would say what exactly that would still mean you had a warranty

Nonsense? I'm not arguing with cdebru, with regards to issues relating to consumer law. I have a wide experience in this area and I am telling you, under no uncertain terms, that any UK retailer who refuses to adhere to the UK Sale of Goods Act 1979, faces severe penalties. Whether the Iphone is activated or not is totally irrelevant, since the fault would remain either way. The retailer can and will test this.

    Don't believe me?

    Sale of Goods Act 1979.

As I've said before on this thread, Apple (or any other manufacturer for that matter) can claim anything they like with regards to warranty restrictions or "invalidations" - but they can never deprive consumers of their statutory rights.

I don't want to fall out with you cdebru, but I'd prefer if you get your facts right in future, before telling people they're talking nonsense. You're pretty smart when it comes to the Iphone, and I certainly wouldn't go posting deflamatory remarks about anything you post, not without getting my facts right. :)

    Higsters reply

have a look at the youtube video you can ignore the installer bit as BSD and openssh are already on your phone unless you removed them

    Follow the rest from there

Ok so tell me how you get around the fact that you could not have discovered the fault without activating the phone and if you activate the phone by any other method than the official apple method you have invalidated your warranty.

Installing software on the iphone to circumvent the apple activation is not reasonable use of the phone ( legally). It is clearly stated by apple that jailbreaking the phone invalidates your warranty.

I'm just curious as to how you would get around this.

Of course if you restored it and activated it by taking out an o2 UK subscription you would have a warranty but that is not possible if you are living in the Republic nor would it be worth your while.

Without that you have a warranty from apple as long as you have not activated the phone. Which gets back to my point the only way to get that warranty acted on would be to kill it completely so you can not activate it.

But you cannot go back to apple and compalin that your sound or wifi or anything else will not work on a phone that you have jailbroken and unlocked even if you restore it.

The only exception I can think of might be where apple did a recall for an identified fault say battery on a batch of goods you may have an argument that they would have to fix your phone under such a general recall as the fault is not related to your actions in jailbreaking the phone

NOT an expert (leaving that to cdebru) but if you are getting a "cannot connect to host" error (as I was) then the only way around it was to use ssh to reinstall a fresh version of installer (I tried everything else 'cause the ssh scared the bajazus outta me) and it did work when I was left with no other choice.

Oh.. oh.. and what's the story with my O2 sim card? Will i need one of those TurboSim's etc?

Commisserations to gerrynealon - his iPhone sounds in a pretty bad way. Should you avoid installing a lot of third party apps or doing updates (unless you know they're safe) to keep it in it's non-brick format! :D

You can software unlock all versions of the iPhone atm so turbosims etc are no longer required.

3rd Party App's should be fine just check that they work with the version you have. But yeah don't update to newer iPhone versions till they're jailbroken and sim unlocked

it wouldn't be what i would try first but here

    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19204&page=2

I would try letting it run down completely then leave it on (official charger) for a few hours or days and see if that does anything

Btw have you tried restarting the PC or trying a different PC or indeed a different USB cable just to rule those out

Just hoping the girlfriends parents can get it for me.
