Success!!! At long, long last I finall jailbroke my 1.1.2 otb!
Heres what I did for those of you who having problems installing appsnapp:
    • Restored to v1.1.1
    • Ran ibrickr
    • Turned off iPhone & put in my regular Meteor sim.
    • Opened iTunes, which gives you error message like "not proper sim"
    • With iTunes open connect to jailbreakme.com & installed appsnapp & Bingo!
I tried this before but for some reason it worked last night.
For those of you without a wireless network at home, you can turn your regular laptop/PC into a wireless network for your iPhone relatively easily, using an O2/3/Vodafone wireless broadband (what I used) or just about any internet connection.

Only problem is now when I run iTunes it tellls me I've only got 300MB space total!!
I see this is a common problem, but it seems you need to restore to fix it. After the hassle I had jailbreaking the first time I'm a bit reluctant to do this....

Does anyone know a way to fix the 300MB problem without restoring?

there is a fix for it under tweaks in the installer, no need to restore

    From Hackint0sh

    Download the files from here

    http://rapidshare.com/files/90091424/gunlock.rar

    And these are the instructions

    1. Install OpenSSH and Term-vt100 on your iPhone
    2. Connect via WiFi to your iPhone using WinSCP
    3. Copy all the files (gunlock, ICE04.02.13_G.fls and secpac) to /usr/bin
    4. Set permissions of gunlock to 755 in WinSCP
    5. Put iPhone in Airplane mode (IMPORTANT!)
    6. Execute the following commands in Terminal:

    launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

    gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls

    launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

    7. Restart iPhone and throw your ***sim out of the window

    Kick ass.

    Good linkage. :)
Hopefully that's still working when I pick up an iPhone in NY next week. :D

Can anyone confirm that this definitely works?
The official blog says to downgrade to 1.0.2
    Is this a must?

Tibor - My house mate brought me back an iPhone from the Apple shop on 5th Avenue NY last week and it was v1.1.2 firmware (not even 1.1.3) so you should be ok!

It is confirmed from various reputable websites

I don't have a 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 otb to test it on but I will experiment on yours if you like :D

Excellent news, will be a lot of happy iphoners this weekend :D

Geohot said that this is a "true unlock". What exactly does he mean here. I know with AnySIM it's only good for the current version of the firmware and if you do an upgrade then you are locked again. Does this mean that we can keep upgrading our phones to the latest firmware and we will still be unlocked? I guess that you would still have to jailbreak to get access to installing software and stuff but could you still make calls if you upgrade?

    Hi all,

I recently changed from "bill pay" to "pay as you go" on the Vodafone network but I can no longer get on the internet. Do I need to change the settings as I am no longer able to get onto the net through my iPhone.

The message I'm getting up is "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server." Does anyone know what I need to do? Can someone post the correct settings that I need to enter into the iPhone?

    Many thanks.

I presume he means that it is like the IPSF unlock and is resistant to updates

According to posts on hackint0sh its not a must to downgrade to 1.0.2.
You can turn on airplane mode and type the commands into vTerminal on the iPhone, no need for wifi.

Anyone know f a way to view the (and edit of course) the iphones root directory without wireless i.e. via the usb?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 145 ✭✭lkman

Great news about the SW unlock.. guess we can say bye bye to those sim errors I'v seen reported recently.

dlane99, do you have the link to the hackint0sh discussion on this, i'd like to follow (don't use hackint0sh much).

So does this mean that ppl can also legitimately upgrade to 1.1.3 and SW unlock / jailbreak?

    Happy days! :D

I've used iPhoneBrowser to transfer files to the iphone by usb.
I dont know if you can use it to chmod files, you can do that in terminal or prob squid.

Does this work for 1.1.1 OTB phones that have been upgraded to 1.1.3? I assume it would.

No this is for 4.6BL phones a 1.1.1 otb would be a 3.9BL there is an anysim 1.3 released by zibri for 3.9BL and Geohotz has a IPSF style unlocker for 3.9BL phones

Did you unlock with anySim before you upgraded to 1.1.3?
did you update by iTunes or the devteam soft update?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

It's running 1.1.3 on the devteam update, but I'd guess that 1.1.3 better when installed through iTunes.

    Thanks!

i was about to say "i think 20e isnt that bad..."
and when i went to the add i saw the price was 420e!

it was 40 but i droped it to 20, hence the mix up.

    that was funny.

Can someone post a link to quality detailed step by step instructions for this new unlock that bypasses the xSIM for us numpties. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,124 ✭✭✭NickyOD

I'm trying the instructions from George Hotz's blog now.

In Step 3, what does he mean when he says "Kill CommCenter"?

    *****************************************
    geohot's 1.1.2 software unlock
yes, this is what you have all been waiting for
    now fixed to support 1.1.3

    1. Download these:
gunlock and the secpack from http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/ or the blog :)
    the 4.02.13 fls from http://george.zjlotto.com/index.php/baseband/

    2. Downgrade your phone to 1.0.2. See all the great tutorials online to do this.
Your baseband won't be downgraded, this is normal.
This will probably work on other versions too, but 1.0.2 doesn't lose wifi on bb access.

    3. Kill CommCenter and run "gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls"

    4. Reload CommCenter. For some reason my phone was in brick mode. Use the elite team bricktool to get out.

    5. Enjoy your 1.1.2 OTB unlocked iPhone

Now who'd have thought it'd be this easy :)

This release is no thanks to elite/dev
I wish they would share like the old days.
I don't believe everyone in the team is like this, but come on guys.

If you want to contribute to me, the person who discovered these exploits and wrote this tool

there isnt a good guide yet.
the hackint0sh links above contain posts about what people are trying and whether or not it is working for them.

I'd wait a day or two and there will prob be an app on installer or a guide w screenshots that will make it easy.

There is a beta app on installer at the moment that is suposed to have packaged up geohots unlock but noone has said if they have tried it yet.

some people are reporting that they are getting some bus error, i dont know if this is a bug in the unlocker or if those people are doing something wrong.

this is from a post in hackint0sh, probably the commands you are looking for:
    launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

    gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls

    launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

if you are on 1.1.2 you have to run them in terminal on the iphone,
if you are on 1.0.2 you can connect to the iphone terminal from your mac/pc.
