A guy in Limk unlocked my iphone (after tyring myself & nearly getting there - i think i just hadn't fiddled around enough with the simfreer) however, he warned me not to upgrade to 1.1.3 (i bought my phone in USA otb 1.1.2).
I would like to upgrade but am afraid to do so.

I've also read about crashes on 1.1.3 & im happy enough with what i've got, is it worth upgrading?

I know nothing about the Iphone but if you couldnt get it to work and he could and advised you not to upgrade, because it you have problems and also it may crash.

    What do you think

I too got mine in Newry (check a few pages back in this thread). I went to Carphone Warehouse and got asked too many questions. Went to O2 store and bought it no questions asked.

Did anyone get one in Enniskillen? I'm wondering if the O2 store there is also as easy with supplying them. I'm thinking of going over to the North to get one but Newry is a bit far for me. Enniskillen would be much closer.

I don't know why people are ****ing about with GB or US in the text file I have done this on at least 9 phones at this stage and I have NEVER had to change the text file.

Did you reboot the phone (ie shut it down completely not just turn the screen off) after you transfered the files.

It works every time for me.

I don't know either but 'ie' didn't work for me for some reason, Dan's GB fix seemed to work.

Oh yes and it was a full reboot.

Seems to be happening quite alot

    Try resetting your network settings

Its in Setting then General then down the bottom reset then down the bottom again reset Network settings

A few people have been complaining about the same thing what sim solution are you using and what network are you on

Its bizarre because I have used it on 3.9 and 4.6 bootloader phones and it works first time everytime

Its debatable whether anyone should upgrade to 1.1.3 at this stage

My personal advise is not to bother but if someone really wants it i will do it for them.

I presume the guy advising you was telling you NOT to upgrade to 1.1.3 using Itunes as that will lock your phone and your simfreer will not work full stop

If you use the official Dev team upgrade to 1.1.3 through the installer then you will still have a functioning phone as it does not update your baseband firmware and you can go back to 1.1.2 if you want but given the trouble you had getting it working the first time it might be best to leave it as it is for the moment.

Another possible fix that was posted here was to delete saved messages that are on your sim card from the previous phone

Take the sim out put it into the old phone delete any texts saved on the sim and put it back in the phone

    Hey,

My phone messed up (it wouldn't show up my music even though there were 7gigs used).

I have to do a complete restore now. Can anyone link to a guide for a 1.1.2 downgrade to 1.1.1 and an upgrade back to 1.1.2 again. Can be Mac (pref) or Windows.

    Regards,
    Chris

    Hackthatphone.com

Follow the guide for a new 1.1.2

Downgrade to 1.1.1 run ibrickr or iphuc to boot out of recovery mode (error 1015)
jailbreak 1.1.1 then run OKTOPREP then update to 1.1.2 jailbreak and your back

Just another thought how many text messages would you have
the iphone has room to save about 1000 on 1.1.2 could you have that many on the phone

all messages deleted and still not working...having trouble opening the sim card holder to try your other idea...will work on it...

I've done that a couple of times. I get it back working on 1.1.1 after restoring to 1.1.1, using iDependence to knock it out of recovered. Using the i.unlock.no source, I reset the baseband, and restore to 1.1.1 (no 1015 error this time). I run Oktoprep, and update to 1.1.2. This works fine. When I use the .jar file from the jailbreak, it just hangs on the recovery mode again, until I use iDependence to knock it out. I then used AnySim 1.21u and it crashed the phone. The only thing I think I may have missed was not putting the phone in Airplane mode so going through that again.

I had a similar issue, When I was upgrading to 1.1.2 I forgot to put phone into airplane mode and ran anysim 1.2.1u, it totally crashed my phone, the only way i got it fixed was run idepenence on my mac, it JB my phone and activated it, then I ran anysim again all working good now, hope this helps. I'm thinking of moving upto 1.1.3 tonight

In the middle of doing that now. (Just after restoring 1.1.1 with new baseband). Should be done in about 10 minutes.

You do not have to go near the baseband just downgrade to 1.1.1 leave the baseband as 04.02.13 it will still be unlocked but it is not compatible with 1.1.1 so all you have to do is update to 1.1.2 (after running oktoprep)
you do not have to run anysim the baseband would be already unlocked

The only reason to downgrade the baseband would be if you intended staying on 1.1.1 messing with the baseband just increases the chance of the iemi 49 error and an expensive brick

Could you try a different sim and see if you can send texts from that

I'm up and running now anyways. Going to chance 1.1.3 and see if it's any good. It's pretty easy to upgrade/downgrade anyways. My problem was that I just didn't put the phone into Airplane mode (which really should be said on either the Installer Info or the main page of the program).

Found this its complicated and instead of using ibrickr you would use an ssh client like fugu or cyberduck on the MAC or winscp on windows

If that is too much it might work as a short term fix you could try and take the sim out and send a text using the sim from another phone and then put it back in or try sending a text to someone you have not texted before from the iphone

No your problem was that you downgraded your baseband when there was no need to you are just making it more complicated and increasing the risks of ****ing up

If are going to use TurboSIM or a similar SIM-adapter you don't need to unlock - it should work right away. If your phone did not have 1.1.2 when you bought it (old bootloader), you can unlock it to work with any sim-card. To do so, install anySIM 1.2.1u located in Utilities category. Open Settings enable Airplane Mode (very important!) (and set Auto lock to never if you haven't already) and then you can launch anySIM and follow the instructions shown.

I did the exact same thing the first time as I did this time, bar turning on airplane mode the second time. The baseband downgrade worked fine as I have a 1.1.1 OTB.

Yeah Chris that is for a new phone but your baseband was already unlocked and will stay that way unless you upgrade it to 04.03.13 or in your case downgrade to 04.01.13

There are different firmwares on the phone 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 etc are basically the operating system
04.02.13 and 04.01.13 are firmwares for the modem the modem firmware only changes if you are moving up and a newer version than your current version is available.
If you are downgrading to 1.1.1 so you can update to a fresh install of 1.1.2 then you do not have to touch the baseband it will stay on 04.02.13 and it will stay unlocked (it will not work on 1.1.1 but it would on 1.0.2) when you update to 1.1.2 it again will not be touched and will remain unlocked.
once you jailbreak the phone will work again.

By all means keep flashing your baseband if you want I am only telling you it is a waste of time and greatly increases the chances of something going wrong.

    Hi
From what I can find it seems the problem is caused by a corrupted sms.db file
So there are 2 options one is to alter the sms.db file by
1-Set the message center as described here, also with +39.
    Es for Italian Wind *5005*7672*+393205858500#
sometimes it gives an error try more times, i suggest to create a contact in address book.

2-Download SMS.db to a folder and run from OS X terminal this string as suggested:
sqlite3 sms.db "CREATE TRIGGER hack_svc_center AFTER INSERT ON message BEGIN UPDATE message SET svc_center=NULL WHERE ROWID=new.ROWID; END;"

obviously you would change the message centre number to the vodafone ireland message centre number

The other is to delete the sms.db file and reboot the phone and the phone will apparently create a new sms.db
    Try doing this:

    # Delete sms.db

    /var/root/Library/SMS/sms.db

    # then restart iphone

The second seems much more appealing to me
