If we don't all fit in Bono's shed, some of us should head over to Edge's shed and tell him to bring his guitar with him so we can be distracted until the invasion is over.

There was a research paper put out once, oh, about ten years back, by an academic by the name of Mike Lunnon-Wood, under the title of "Dark Rose". The hypothesis was a complete invasion and occupation of Ireland by Chile. Or Argentina. One of those two. They were pretending to be Spanish students.*

You may find it in your local library, ISBN-10: 0261673947

If you have read this document, and survived without dying of laughter or shock, I offer you my heartiest congratulations.

*I'm not kidding. You'd have thought someone would have queried the AK-47s or at least the T-72s, but no.

    At the moment probably badly.

I think that when the occifers are being trained up in the Curragh they should be trained to set up underground resistance movements.

ie Sleeper Cells that can operate completely independant of the world.

they should be told the details of a Bank account so that they can purchase Guns and Ammunition.

They should be shown how to train people to be guerrillas, and to kill in all manners while giving no quarter.

they should be able to just drift away when it seems like Ireland is being over run adn take as many trained men as possible (so they dont have to train them)

They should all be trained in explosives and other means. They should be "Hiroo Onodo" as dedicated.

They should only stop when they see a proper elected Irishman take the country back.

They should have the ability to spot a high value target and stop at nothing(short of killing a civilian) to get that target.

Basically we should turn into the Islamic Terrorists but not killing innocent people.

Was that not a novel? I remember reading it, looked like it was inspired by the passport for sale scandal. From what i remember it was Palestinians who took over, sent all the officers etc they could find to concentration camps. They took over cos they reckoned that using the Irish American lobby to kick and scream the americans would withdraw support from Israel. It was a funny book.

I read it too, didn't paint the Irish in a great light. Very interesting idea though.

Yes, it was a novel. I was being a little statirical.

For those who have not yet read it, Cliff Notes version is as follows:

Arabs decide to hold Ireland for ransom in exchange for Palestine. Libyan Arabs living in Chile pretending to be Spanish Students overrun Ireland, in conjunction with PLO, with the aid of tanks/APCs/whatever. (Most valid point in book: Most Irish people couldn't tell one of their own tanks from a foreign one). Irish Armed Forces surrender without a fight. Eithne scuttled in harbour, one Peacock escapes to the UK. Free Irish Battalion remains in UNIFIL. Instead of simply going around the corner to Palestine and making havoc, they also go to the UK. First act of resistance caused by an old man on a tractor who blocks the road of a Libyan convoy. They used to do that to me all the time, I've no idea why it wasn't considered a militia act against me. Peacock goes around acting the pirate to any Libyan cargo vessels. When one cargo vessel shoots back, is reliant on escorting British destroyer.

So, for whatever political reason, the US/UK/etc cannot take sides. They do, however, grant leaves of absence for any troops of Celtic descent (Or who dated an Irish woman once) to go be mercenaries. British SAS finds the last remaining descendant of the High Kings of Tara, and she is declared Queen of Ireland, and Commander in Chief of "Celt Force". Some equipment (Tanks, fighters, Aircraft Carrier Battle Groups) reflagged under Irish military colours for the duration.

Cue counter-invasion, general high-intensity combat, Mullingar gets hit by some FAEs (No loss there), and the Free Irish Battalion, filled with blood lust, take no prisoners. End with Victory parade to College Green.

I think that should about cover it.

I was very lucky to find it for €4 on a second hand bookstall at a Sunday market near where I live. I must read it again. Good books are hard to find down here and I have so much stuff stolen in the post I've almost given up on mail order.

My own opinion would be that Ireland wouldn't do very well.

Our position in Europe and repuation for neutrality means we have a small standing army and reservists. Guerilla warfare would probably be our best bet.

Oh dear God.This book is so bad its actually good (if you know what I mean) The plot is worse than an american soap.I still get slagged by my mates every now and then for reading that book(10 year ago in college)
It is farcical but addictive. I love the bit where the RUC/MI6 gather the IRA heads up north and tell them that they cannot get involved. Otherwise 'the gloves come off' feck it, give them each a gun and send them south!!
And the US marine colonel called Kowalski, who once knew a barmaid in an irish bar in Boston. but still joined up to CeltForce.
I even think the heroine/last decendent of the high kings of Ulster is called Kitty or something like that, and has red hair.

Due to the republics strategic position as a gateway to NATO's western flank, the republic is under unofficial NATO protection.

There are various NATO admirals and generals who have commented Ireland's strategic importance and that of its surrounding sea and air space.

...Basically a Sinn Fein all Ireland govt with Cuban missile bases aint ever gonna happen.

    ..............Thank God for MI5.

We'd (hopefully) fight 'the war of the flea' and beat any invaders.

You see guys, we have what the Iraqi's and Afghan's have.

We'd be a risen nation once again, and thats something an imperial force can not understand, whats inside the heart of a risen people.

And its that mis-understanding which will be Britain and America's downfall in Iraq & Afghanistan, because like us, it won't mean a thing if victory is next year, in ten year's and a milllenium away, because (ultimately) victory will be our's.
