just to point out...vas artimiev didnt go to belvo though he played on rock team that lost to belvo in senior cup final 05...against a belvo team that didnt contain any scholarship students

....COS we don't give them out for rugby!

just thought id set the record straight

ha relax! i asked a question due to a lack of knowledge! and i never said what school vas was from! asked if he was recruited in a similar way!!! i know exactly where he went... had to play against the guy!

i just was talking to a mate of mine from belvo who was laughing saying the whole front row hadnt an irishman in it! so i thought mabey? if im wrong grand! just asking!! :)
and yes... you beat rock... blah blah... will you do it this year? honestly after that perfomance against nure... step up or you dont deserve to, and likely wont!

no probs mate, just making doubly sure

and it was an awful display by belvo, pack aint bad but what backline was up to ill never know,

got a bit of shape on it when we changed outhalfs - sub threw the try scoring pass

a typical start to any belvo campaign, slow to gain momentum

but my god we cut it close there

agreed: serious improvement needed if belvo wish to make any serious headway this year

tbh i think it has alot to do with the reputation... iv talked to a few and they seem to think they can do no wrong... that kind of attitude is poor,,, you have to go out there and think hell iv alot to prove... cos end of day they do! nure did... look at how they played! look at that defense, now you can blame the backs on belvo(although they werent up to any form until the subs came on to be true...or was it the defense was just tired at that stage? they had alot of pressure)
but truth is... nure played out of socks... even on form they wouldnt of made much more headway i dont think...

and i totaly attribute the try in end due to absolute tiredness! i remember seeing number 4 on nure-no idea his name at one point... just fter he made a huge tackle... and he looked about to colapse... yet he shook his head and ran to a rook! and went in full force! they were all doing this...

thats the committment belvo didnt show... skill will bring you so far, but without the committment and heart... you cant win...

honestly i hope this gave them a shock! mabey thanks to this they will straighten up!

yeah psychology in belvo may well have been ''we're a lot better than them, don't need to play too hard to win'' and the nure needed to work hard to win

at sct level the work ethic is definitely somethin thatll win matches, superstars will only get you so far (rob kearney dragged his clongowes team pretty far with some individual tries i recall, but not enough to win)

yeh a wake up call and a mentality of putting up a score on the opposition is needed, too often in belvo we do just enough to win - we can scrape wins against the other big teams but often only win by a score or two against much weaker sides

and watchin the game i was very impressed by terenure defence, one missed tackle would probably have leaked a try, they could have been a little smarter with their defence as they had a few opportunities to turnover the ball but didnt (like when belvo scrum half picked up ball from back of ruck before looking outside him, looked up saw out half was out of position, looked other side, no winger, turned a full circle and only one terenure guy realised ball was live and fair game as scrumhalf had it in his hands!)

    - hope we improve cos theres talent there such as 3 lovic and 7 sinnot and ben woods at 11 so this should scare them into better work ethic and less showboating - we gave up quite the number of overlaps because some selfish idiot got hands on the ball first and stuck his head down to go it alone!

and unfortunately we can do a lot of wrong seein as we have won the cup once in the last....36 years! but guys in school now have seen lot of success with a couple of junior cups and a senior cup so prob have inflated heads and do the usual thing of being completely unrealistic about their sides strengths and weaknesses

nure no 4 was rob duke and in my opinion MOTM, he was sick he had the highest tackle ratio defo, and just made hit after hit after hit and then rucked belvo out of it , he played fantastic id say he slept that night.

true , to be fair they were unreal in their aggression , no one could keep that up for 87+ minutes.

hopefully they'll have conny and alan kenny back in the squad instead those feckin eejits at 10 and 12

    Cbc 24-0 Columbas

Columbas played very well, but CBC were just far too strong.

Could have been a bigger score but CBC gave away 3 silly penalties and 3 knock ons within the columbas 5 meter line.

Fair play to columbas though, they played very well.

Any score from the Pres game? Heard Micheals were 26-10 up..

Hate to go back to the Nure/Belvo match again, but why wasn't Kenny starting? Injury, or just not picked? I thought he played great when he came on, and is a sure starter for the next match.

Just watched the Terenure/Belvo match on Setanta, am I the only one who thought the ref was Ryan Tubridy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,252 ✭✭✭Funkstard

Watching the Micheals Pres Bray match, half time now. Pretty sure the commentator is gonna go off and have a quick toss over Noel Reid during the ad break?

EDIT: Michaels fans screaming during a conversion, doing yourselves proud there lads!

CBC-Michaels game is going to be close...I think they played at JCT, CBC won I think. I heard CBCs kicking was brilliant today, should allay some people on this forums fears! Can't believe Andrews lost. They looked like they could cause Belvo a few problems, Roscrea must be better than everyone says.

Yea, really representative of the total school Funkstard - ffs.

Looking forward to the next round now and this much lauded CBC side. Should be a good game.

Yea credit to Chris O' Brien the CBC full back, His kicking was top quality today, slotting over kicks from the touchlines ect.

He had a few off games recently but good to see he pulled himself together!

Cant wait for the Micheals game!

    Should be an absolute cracker!

want to put your money where your mouth is?

you probably have better info than me , i'm going more on a hunch , where theyve been unlucky before , particularly last year against rock

Simply not guna happen. Marys are the most underrated team in this comp. They have by far the best backline and their forwards are impressive to say the least containing two of the best players in their postion at provincial level Richard Brent and Jack Mcgrath.

CBC and Belvodere are so overrated it is beyond ridiculous I dont know if it is just these forums but all the talk is of belvo n CBC

Clongowes, Blackrock or Marys will take the cup

Clongowes from what I can gather are looking amazin
    Blackrock look strong as usual
Marys can play some brilliant rugby and have the passion

all this is coming from a terenure supporter [We were robbed by the way]

In my experience though Micheals have always been bad.

See in that game wen the linesman came over to give out bout micheals supporters spitting on the hooker, disgraceful

Did I say 'All' Micheals' fans? No, I didn't. Also as posted above me, the past pupil section was talked to by the referee for apparently spitting on a Pres Bray player. The school didn't come across great today on TV - no disputing that, whether you're involved with the team or not!

And yes, can't wait for the match. Repeat of the Junior tie a few years ago - hopefully with the same result. I'll be coming back up to experience the Michaels' fans first-hand ;)

I thought Terenure's defence was good too, but you can't expect to win without a good pack. Belvo outmuscled you.

To say that Belvo and CBC are overrated is ridiculous. Nure couldn't beat either this year, i heard CBC beat Nure 36-0 and I know both teams were missing a couple of players. Rock will walk it next year.

Its ridiculously open this year anyone of about 6 in the Q's could take it. If you are rating Clongowes from what you hear you can't really rate them, can you? They are good though but all this talk of silently slipping through this year is laughable, typical Clongowes way of trying to take pressure of.Don't discount Gonzaga btw. They have been poor all year but seem to be improving and have some good players.

After the 1st round Marys won most convincingly I think. Its great the way its so competitve, if only the H cup format was introduced this year!

Lets worry about this year first! There are 6 genuine contenders this year, but i think its clongowes cup to lose

The HCup format will be most interesting

what does everyone think the pros and cons be?

I was at the Pres v Michaels match. Cracking game. Ive got a few mates on the Pres team and i was gutted for them at the end but really they didnt play as well as they could have. Delighted to see John Breslin's intercept try. But really they didnt threaten in attack.

Shocked Roscrea beat Andrews. Now im worried they might beat Gerards in the Vinnie but hopefully they will be concentrating on Belvo.

How many matches have you seen Belvo or CBC play this year??

Both are highly rated and rightly so!

And no its not just on the forums.. Several rugby journalists have put Belvo and CBC in the Final/semis atleast

But sure only time will tell how good these teams REALLY are...

EDIT: Oh and does anyone know what actually happened to Nerm? Heard alotta rumours!!

been to a good few games

    Marys will beat CBC...again
    Clongowes will beat Belvo

I'm beginning to think even a sub standard Micheals side will be too much for CBC in the quarters

Where is this talk of CBC winning the cup coming from...CBC barely beat Andrews and were trashed by Marys and Rock.

My choice for who will most likely win the cup would go in this order
    Clongowes
    Marys
    Blackrock
    Belvedere
CBC - and I'm tempted to put Micheals ahead of them
    Micheals
