    A long list...

Making call other end cannot hear me (I can hear them just about) if using "to the ear" or the speaker.

Speaker doesn't sound well when play music either (at least not as good as it used too)

Also keep getting error message saying "This accessory is not made to work with Iphone do you want to turn on airplane mode" etc

And finally when gets lowish on power (~20% level) goes weird (locking up, back gets hot etc)

Using earphones/mic works grand (still get the above error).

IWorld not showing list of countries (had selected Ireland before putting in *sim card)

Me thinks got a knock somewhere (pleasure of having kids)

US phone, 1.1.2, hacked/jailbreaked, using *sim (not sure of type)
    Thanks for the reply cd.

Have you tried to restore just to rule it out.

    Hi,

I have just purchased a locked iPhone on ebay from America today. I have seen lots of info on the boards about what to do to get it working etc.

I would like to know whether anyone has got it goin on the vodafone network here and how much functionality has it?
Also can someone give me the basic steps to follow to get it workin? (in simple terms cos I aint that techy )

This thread is so long and sooo full of info.....i am utterly confused.

    Thanks for your help,
    Regan

    Dan,

    Thanks,
    John

Have a look at the sticky at the top of this forum, it is full of useful information for newbies

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055220853

What was the description of the iPhone you bought on eBay, did they say the firmware version number, whether it was unlocked it not etc.

If it is a new phone it will probably have 1.1.2 firmware on it, this can work as a phone by purchasing an xsim (a hardware device that attaches to your sim and both and inserted into the iPhone) and by a procedure where it is downgraded to 1.1.1, jailbreaked, software installed, updated to 1.1.2 and then jailbreaked/unlocked; there are plenty of tutorials around the web, just make sure you follow them step by step.

Hi higster, My iphone is at this moment with a guy in William Street - Celular Repair Centre. I gave it to him on Sat evening & he says he wont have it ready til Wed evening! Mine is a 1.1.2 OTB which I bought in USA and tried to jailbreak/unlock myself but got too frustrated so decided to get someone else to do it. 100 euro he quoted.

    This should get you started...http://www.unlockthatiphone.com/process.php

Don't think 1.1.3 are on new phones yet (can be downloaded though...but don't recommend it)

I am definetly not an expert but cd or Dan are the men. Have a gander at their posts

You will first have to purchase a Hardware unlock ie a X-sim there is a list of places to buy in the sticky in the mobile forum, but we need more info can you give us the link to the ebay item.

Higster your best bet before you shed out more money is to try a restore. It will prob solve a few of your problems.100 Euro seems very steep unless its a hardware issue.

Would you believe I just called into him. We pretty much concluded its a harware problem and he ain't got the parts (nor anyone else in Limerick after a dozen calls or so). Works ok on earphone set up.

But...now with some incoming calls seem to get "call failed".

I am tempted to redo the whole process again...but I'm not sure if the usual methodolgy works with a phone that was already "downgraded to 1.1.1, jailbreaked, software installed, updated to 1.1.2 and then jailbreaked/unlocked and *sim installed"...anyone know?

Thanks Dan, you got above in whilst typing above post. Probably a very stupid question (ASking a lot of them recently) but what do you mean by restore?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

Restore to 1.1.1 Or try updating to 1.1.3.Restore as in do a fresh installation of the iphone firmware.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,260 ✭✭✭Elessar

Dan, you seem to know what you are talking about:

Does the iPhone support WAP? And for both WAP/ISP all I need to do is enter the correct APN+username+password right? And then when I open safari I should be connected?

My Number is 085 bla and you want to get ISP access Active on your account.

    Will Take about 2 days.

Might be better to restore to 1.1.1 and see if you can sort the problems before before going to 1.1.3

Presumably you still have the 1.1.1 on your hard drive from the first time you jailbroke the phone
In which case you need to put the phone into DFU mode (restore mode)
as you did before power and home button etc
then hold shift key and click on restore button select your 1.1.1 image
whenits done use ibrickr (not the new one) to boot the phone out of restore mode (1015 error)

Then use OKTOPREP and UPDATE to 1.1.2 then you just jailbreak it again and hopefully your phone is back in order (don't forget to use iworld)

or with the clean version you could go to 1.1.3 from 1.1.1 using Nate trues ibrickr method

What apps have you got installed on it and have your removed any of them lately
    IE customize or summerboard etc

You could try a restore to 1.1.1 and then just jailbreak again

do not update to 1.1.3 via iTunes that would update your baseband and may leave the phone unusable for a couple of weeks

You need to restore to 1.1.1 then run ibrickr to get it out of restore mode 1015 error

then jailbreak Oktoprep and update and jailbreak

You can use *#307# to check and see what firmware you are on or the 4th and 5th number of your serial number is a good indication
